2007 Annual General Meeting
Held at the Windmill Southwick
21 August 2007

5. Chairperson’s report (Jean Brackenridge)
Jean thanked the committee for their work and in making everything run so smoothly. She particularly thanked Alan and Mark for the years they have given to the SCBBA, She wished them well and offered good luck to their successors.
Congratulations to everyone who supported and represented Sussex last year and in the future. It has been a very good year on the playing front and generally a good year all round.
Finally, she congratulated all inter league and competition winners for this year, and wished everyone an enjoyable and successful season next year.
6. Treasurer’s report and accounts for season 2006-7 (Richard Wooton)
Richard commented on the increasing bank balance year on year. He saw no reason to increase the fees at this time and they remained at £15 for affiliation. The current balance is around £2000. Richard asked for suggestions from the meeting for ways to reduce the surplus. Kevin Tunstall suggested that money could be spent restoring some of the older trophies.
Richard also alerted the meeting that we may have additional costs next year to fund tables for competitions now that the Downview was no longer in a position to sponsor the SCBBA. An Honorarium to the value of £60 was approved and awarded to Alan Messer. Mark James was awarded a similar sum but declined the offer.
The Accounts were passed as correct unanimously.
7. Secretary’s report (Alan Messer)
The Review of the Year 2006-7, compiled by Alan Messer, was distributed at the meeting. This encompassed both the Secretary’s report, and also the inter-league and individual competitions report. 10 copies have been made available to each Sussex member league. Further copies are available from Alan at cost plus postage,
The biggest issue this year had been the difficulties with venues for the one day competitions, but these had been resolved to everyone’s satisfaction. We were very much in Michelle Baden’s debt for providing the venue for the One Day competitions
Alan reaffirmed that he was standing down this year, but had thoroughly enjoyed his time in the role. He thanked everyone connected with the SCBBA for the help and encouragement he had received in the past 10 years
8. Inter league Report
One day Competitions (Alan Messer)
Full details are contained within the Review. Div 1 was won by Littlehampton, Mid Sussex were relegated. Horsham won promotion from Div 2. Brighton won the Ladies competition. Worthing B won the competition for B and C teams.
Home and away (Dave Jones)
Dave offered his congratulations to all the winners and also to Phil Oakley who used his ten breaks to good effect to achieve 100%. The winners were Redhill (Div 1) Tunbridge Wells (Div 2) and Redhill C (Div 3). Relegated were Littlehampton (Div 1) and Brighton C (Div 2).
We will have 18 teams in 3 divisions of 6 next season.
Dave requested that results are sent in to him as soon as possible and that e-mailed results are acceptable.
9. Individual Competitions (Mark James)
Mark referred to the review of the year, commenting that the future of the Mixed doubles, Captains and Senior competitions needs to be thought through for the future, entries for these competitions continue to decline. He reminded everyone that he would not be standing again for office next year and went on to thank all the SCBBA members for generally giving him a fairly easy time.
The singles champions were Kevin Tunstall and Jean Brackenridge. Mark James and Tony Lewis won the Men’s Doubles. Jean Brackenridge and Sheena Wood were Ladies Double Champions. Andy Farmer Wright won the Captains Cup. Ian Lelliott is this years SCBBA Master
10. County team report (Nigel Senior/ Jean Brackenridge)Although not the winners Nigel commented that A team had done well and finished third in division 1. The team comprised N Senior S Mariner D France B Holt C Reeves R Wooton and G Lloyd. The B team gained experience from their day. Rick Dewdney and Dave Hampton were their top performers. Bernie Lawrance captained the side.
Both ladies teams performed well the A team won division 1 won and the B team came a very respectable third.

12. Rules and amendments
No requests for alteration to the rules had been received. The AEBBA is currently undertaking a review of the playing rules. Any alterations would automatically take effect at SCBBA level

Graham Sparksman spoke about the need to be alert to the future of the game. Whilst we currently enjoy excellent support from Rod Tarratt, Graham reminded everyone of the difficult situation of table supply which ensued when Bar Billiards limited withdrew their supply of competition tables Dave Hampton commented that there is a need at the start of every season to talk to our suppliers about the future of table supply in an open and clear dialogue.
Finally Dave Jones wished once more to thank the outgoing officers for their excellent efforts throughout the years they had been on the SCBBA committee
