I agree wholeheartedly with Dave. Especially about the contribution made by the tournament organisers. As regards Group B, it was a tough group, in with 3 very good 'youngsters', (my son is about the same age as these 3 cueists)... T took a leg off all 3 off them, but lost on aggregate... ran the clock out against Matt but of course he scored more in his leg, one go each. 9k lead over Joe and he wiped that out with his break.. and one of them is the now both the World Champ and the Grand Prix champ, one hell of a group. A pleasure to be part off. On a more sober note, I have just found out an old friend of myn (same age as me), passed on this weekend, I last saw him just before we all went out to Jersey. Take care.

I agree with you chris, seniors tournaments should be for seniors. When I played for England I never considered entering in the over 50s. In fact I have never entered in the AEBBA over 50s, would never have admitted to how old I was... having said that I could have entered on over 70s comp last year.. Stay young.

Colin won the toss at South Park and put Alex in. A very steady break and Alex was just under 13 k up after the first leg. Nicely done. Colin needed to virtually play out the second leg and he did, finishing up with 15k. Colin through to his first open singles final. A cracking semi, both of them played well. One go each...

Sad news. Have had the pleasure of knowing Terry for almost 50 years. I am mindful of a story he told me a little while ago when he played for the Locomotive in Redhill in the 1970s... one of the pub regulars ‘parked’ his ferret inside the bb table (on a Tuesday) and left it there while he got sloshed... the ferret was still there when the league match started that evening. Loco at home to the league champions Whyteleafe, apparently the ferret put his head up through one of the holes when the match commenced! R.I.P. Terry.

Overall I preferred this venue to the rocquetes. And I think the money made by the venue, would be much appreciated, a better cause. An excellent facility for the community. Table 8. Score 3. Speed cloth very slidey, thought the right cush was not consistent. Turps played this better then me. Table 1. Score 5. Liked this top. Slightly slower ran slightly left to the right 20. Knackered clock... Table 2. Score 4. Lost to curt and Fitz on this one... Table 10. Score 4. A good test. Very fast. But I did not have a problem with the one up, fast but still playable. Table 6. Score 4. Lost to Traff on this one. Led by 1500 on the first leg, drifted inside in the split shot area, I knew that mark would suss that And run in a big break, which he did... 2nd best tp I played over the weekend. Table 7. Looked like it was easier left handed... tricky. Score 3 and a half. A good tournament, thank you guernsey bar billiards. Geoff.

This is good news dawn. When I visited my daughter in August I needed to complete the form and was per tested on arrival. When I spoke to Jenny last weekend she said that the states may be changing things in November. So .. we need to fill out the form and if we are Double jabbed we won’t need the pcr test. Best to print out the form, although you can also have it on your phone. They scanned a code on the form when I arrived in August.

Sad news. One of my last memories of Joyce, bless her, was at the end of my last season in Pompey, (2004-2005), she was the secretary and she said to me... Geoff you have 4 trophies to collect, Div 1 Winner, Aggregate Winner, Automatics Cup Winner and Open Pairs Winner, did I want 4 separate gongs or if not she Could pool the money together and get me one for the 4 combined. I said Joyce let’s keep it simple and go for the combined option. Well Joyce really deliver here, it was a pair of nice wine glasses on a plinth, nicely engraved with the 4 comps on the plinth. Marvelous. It is still on my mantelpiece 16 years later, I look up at it as I write. Way to go, Joyce. RIP.

Geoff, I can’t believe that you have gone. I had the pleasure of being in the same Reading summer league team for over 10 years while I was working in Pompey. I used to drive up on a Thursday night, and you were there with Dennis (Clayden), Alan(Chaloner), Dave (Nielsen), and the other Dave. You only just got in to your retirement, it just isn’t fair. RIP.

So sorry to see that we may have lost this venue in Brighton. As venues go this was a jewel in brighton’s Crown. Always enjoyed playing at the mont. always a good welcome, a real pub. Just like the Albion further down the Hill. I hope the mont guys find a venue as good. This part of Brighton must date back to the 19th century. I won’t be walking up fron queens park ever again....

Super. Have won another open. It’s been a while since I won the Charity Singles in the 90s... Triples - Redhill started running triples comps in the 80s at the Jolly Brickmakers, we always seeded the players to get a fair balance.

As for the team championships... the sportsmen rest in Pompey won in 1975. And the flying scud in red hill won in 1976. I have still got the winners gong for that too...

Re my previous post. From 75 the south might still have played north in a final. But I cannot be sure because surrey did not get any where near there after winning the southern Section in 74. Sussex were a quality team in the mid 70s onwards....

I can definitely say the last year the winners of south (Kent, Sussex, surrey and hampshire), played the winners of the northern counties was 1974. We then went to the current format of all the teams playing at the same venue from 1975. Up to 74 in the south we played each other on a home and away basis. Surrey won the southern counties in 1974. They went to the final and lost it, I cannot remember for sure who surrey played... either Berks or bucks I think. And you ask how I know.... well I was in that surrey side. I made my debut for surrey in 74 at home at limpsfield British legion against hampshire. And I won my leg. I have still got the gongs, I think they are in box in the garage. One for the southern counties and one for the runner up against the northern county. I played in the away leg. P.s. I am only 39. Geoff.

Matt, I was apologizing to Nigel for a shot which while got 2 balls down... it was not what I went for. As you said... lots of rolls past the white pegs. I was just glad they went down anywhere. Nice top.

Forgive me for asking but... How many points would I have accrued from the club championships, the Sussex Pairs and the Inter league? In 2017-18 I have played 2 thirds on my billiards in the county of Sussex. It would be nice to know how well I have done in sussex this year.
