So very sadto read of the passing of Pete. I always enjoyed a chat with him and Peggy when she was alive, at all the Opens I used to go to. Including many a chat about the game in Jersey, and how it differed ever so slightly from the UK rules. A hard working advocate of the game and a life long promoter for the expansion of the game. Sadly missed now

Hi Curt,
So sorry to read of the passing of your Grandfather Harold. He was a great man and always a good, and tricky opponent to play. He will be sadly missed in the CBBL. Condolences albeit very belatedly, to all the family. So sorry that this post is 6 months late, but I rarely use the forum nowadays.
Regards

Congratulations to all who took part in the World Championships over the last week-end. A worthy winner with mark trafford winning in style, and also to Kevin Tunstall, a worthy opponent to any player, and a worthy runner up. Congrats to both.

I have searched the forum high, wide and handsome, from top to bottom, and have yet to find the entry form for this year's Kent Classic. Whilst I do not play Bar Billiards on a regular basis any more, I do try at least to support my home county's Open. Please can some-one tell me where the form is to enter. I know it is at a different venue this year due to the Kent Classic incorporating the C.B.B.L ( MA ) 70th anniversary, but we still need to have the form, and the new venue address, and, if required, directions as to how to get there, posted on the forum.

Interesting to say the least, not so sure that it would catch on over here, but any variation like this shows has got to be good for the promotion of the game. Thanks for sharing this with us Azuritko. Maybe in a few years we could see the England team travelling to Slovakia for an International, played under the local rules over there.

If this snow keeps hanging around you will definitely need some luck moving the tables.

There is snow here in North East Kent, out on the Grain Peninsula, about 10 - 15 cm of the stuff. I have to stay here for another few days as I have a hospital appointment on 15th Jan. I am reliably informed by the other half that it has not stopped raining for 4 days where I reside in Romania. Be glad to get back so I can get warm.

After the thunder and lightning last night, along with snow, the whole of the peninsula was blacked out with power failure. We got the power back on at 13.00 today, after freezing the proverbials for most of the morning. I am glad I go back to Romania on 28th of this month, we have snow there as well with a night time temperature of -11 C, and a day time temperature of about - 4 C................O happy days.....

Just 1 of the photo's taken at the Grand Prix, and I will give Nigel a nudge to put up the rest of the photo's for all to see. As he has had a few problems lately with his e/mail it has probably slipped his mind.
Nice position for anyone to be in..........surrounded by 2 attractive ladies, and a pint of beer.
LUCKY KEITH

I also got " his " e/mail today, and have tried to contact him, but so far, no luck, and I have sent Nigel an e/mail to tell him, but as yet, like the others, no reply.

The photo's from the Grand Prix are with Nigel Senior for him to put up on the forum ( but NOT the photo that keith is referring to..........YET ) that decision rests with the 2 girls on his fate, but he does have a personal copy for his embarresment.
On a slightly more serious note, if anybody would like a copy / copies of the event yesterday, please e/mail me, my e/mail address id in the members section, or leave me a PM with your e/mail address, and I will gladly forward the photo's of the day ( but NOT the 1 of Keith ).
As I have said, Nigel has been sent the photo's, and I would expect to see them on here within the next 24 / 48 hours.

The photo that you refer to Keith will depend on the gratitude ( or other ) of the 2 young ladies concened, but I will send it to you ( via Pauline ) so you will have a copy.
The decision rests with Jean, and Chris as to whether the photo is referred to the recycle bin, or placed here for all to see.
Girls.............it's up to you to decide

Congratulations to all players today for excellent bar billiards, and to those who won the respective competitions, and also those who came close, but missed out to those who grabbed the spoils. Well done to the Secretary, Dave Alder, and the rest of his helpers for the excellent organisation during the day.

The 2009 Grand Prix was won by Curt Driver from Medway with a comprehensive victory over Oxford's Steven Sheard.
With 16 of the best players in attendance in 4 groups of 4, the outcome of the round robin part of the competition was in doubt up to the last match in all the groups, with any one of 8 players with a possible chance to progress to the semi-final stage. After the dust had settled on the 3rd match of the group stage, the winners of each group were :-
Steven Sheard Curt Driver Paul Sainsbury Gareth Lloyd
Each group winner had won all 3 of their matches, and the scene was set for the semi-finals, with Steven playing Gareth, whilst in the other semi-final Curt lined up against Paul.
Steven ran his 1st leg out for just under K 18, and unfortunately Gareth could not make an impression on that score, and Steven was soon back at the table early in leg 2. After scoring K 5, and touching up, Gareth conceded the game to allow Steven into the final.
The other semi-final saw Curt win the toss and ask Paul tp start, and a poor start by the world runner-up of only K 3 allowed Curt to take early control with a measured K 9 break. Curt started the 2nd leg with a K 6 break, and after coming off the table, Paul tried to get the break back, but it was in vain, and immediately conceded the game.
The final between Curt and Steven saw the Oxford player start, only to miss when on K 3, which allowed Curt to grab his chance, and score K 9. to finish the 1st leg with a lead of just over K 7.
Starting the 2nd leg, Curt made K 6 break in about 8 mins, and Steven, to his credit, realised that he had no chance of making up the deficit he faced, sportingly conceded the match.
Photographs have been taken, and will be posted in due course on the forum.
