its a nice idea Tommo. I just don't have the player resources. I'm keen, lord knows I'm keen enough but the landlords are all lazy and don't care a toss. I'm seeing those that are 'my crew' so to speak on Saturday 31st August for a small tournament at the Townhouse. I'll ask them to play the Milton lads then. I realise I'm leaving it a fortnight but i think its worth it. probably get them to agree to the 18th and the 25th.
Then they have the 4x4 on the 28th. then we can look at Wellingborough in October. I need a wider playing base and don't know how to get it. My crew will openly tell me they don't have the time or inclination to play midweek everyweek like we did years ago. so i'll try and carry on as we are hoping for a 'bit of luck'. that luck can only realistically come in two forms 1) a table or two more out there 2) but the vital one is an enthusiastic player or three.....

Hello Tommo
you don't know how close you are! have you got some spy equipment near my computer?
I have negotiated a match twixt 4-5 of our lads and the 3-pin boys at Milton White Horse. home and away. 4-pin and 3-pin.
as you say, we are a split county!
I have also been talking with Wellingborough and we're hoping that they will pop up to Ely and we'll be expected back at Wellingborough and some point. 4-pin.
I'm trying to put stuff on but none of the pubs are helping me and therefore i can't reach outwith the game. mind you, summer may be some of this. but soon eyes will turn away from Ice creams....

Interesting? it is nice to recieve your trophy in front of an appreciative audience instead of the caretaker who says; "yada, yada, yada!!!! right, now get out i've got to lock up!"
Two schools of thought here; 1) persuade them that for it to come to the mainland for a year under licence would give the game such a boost that it could relaunch the game etc etc. that then, on it's return, the boost from the Uk would still feed into better numbers over there....a stronger game overall.
2) get some kind of obscure TV channel to say they'd cover a first UK world final with options back on Jersey if the UK one is good. While also getting an agreement that if the Uk round gained good results entries and publicity that the WCs come back every 3/4 years making the trips both ways across 'special'.
3) Presumably, if entries tripled and financial agreements could be sorted, the people with the licence (let me call them Jersey BBA) get to take the entry fees etc over HERE, filling their coffers as usual and thus making the hotel(s) the only loser. if you know it is for only one year the hotel(s) shouldn't be too miffed?
seems like a dead end how it is?
we used to have 5 Nations rugby but they knew it was better for the game to allow Italy in. Mind you, when you see the World Snooker Final leave the Uk you'll know that that was for a financial inducement. But the game will be the better for China holding it.

So are the WCs holding up a flagging game on the islands or is it the players keeping the WCs that keep the game being played?
you'd think it would be in every single bar and Hotel?
The game itself has a small bowl so you get a small goldfish type-look about it. still, it makes them feel good i suppose.
Dave found out that 4-pin is big in Jamaica and that Teflon P. Wildebeest is trying to do the same there; Steve and Cass are still trying to talk him down off the top of the Multi-storey!!!!

I looked the other week at how there are less tables, less leagues etc in the Channel islands and just thought; why go there then? or at least, why not rotate the Championships around? Surely, WITHOUT them there, the game would be in an even more perilous position?
Surely it should be a hot bed of the game to have the honour?

The table is now just about finished, i've had major trouble with the cloth being chopped off by the rings as they were tapped in. because the slate had to be drilled by myself first to 61mm which came out at around 61.3mm. I then bought another cutter at 62mm and managed to just locate the cutter inside each hole and take them out to 62.4mm. that is what they cut at but that is not the whole story, for the first 3-5mm the holes are more like 62.7 and then come back to 62.1mm. So i bought some rotary flapper wheels at P40 grit and 80mm in diameter. this had to be screwed into the hole but the work it did was over in 15 seconds! it was the business! the holes are now around 62.6-62.8mm internally and the rings a really good tight fit. the rings, the fire red ones (saffron in colour) have a sharp edge and managed to chop the cloth off in some holes. I then removed the rings, had the sharp lip (they all seem to have them) machined off and this time they slide in and then needed a good tap. so with a modern cloth about 62.6-62.8mm seems good - and get rid of that sharp edge halfway down! Cheers Taffy certainly the middle lip was sharper than the top rim/lip and did the damage. because the modern cloth was I thought a little thinner I, I made a small allowance and bored the new holes about 0.3mm smaller but that was my downfall. faced with either unstapling and pulling off the new cloth back off with its holes slashed and re-honing the holes I decided to take that middle barb off and it worked a treat but the damage was done on the initial install. I hope the hole ID helps. Taffy

Hi Sav
well to square the hole I use isopon's legendary P38 body filler but in truth, it is exactly the same stuff as 'wood filler'. A nice piece of 'dry' P80, then wet 'n dry P240 used dry on a small piece of plained baton is suffice.
If you're asking if I chamfered the edges, no i didn't not how i think you mean anyway, i just took the sharp lip off so the shamfer was like 0.5mm down the hole and the cloth was square to the ring.
difference is, the ring didn't act as a guillotine after this. I am happily playing at home on a cloth with white body filler showing through on one hole. the cloth is ruined and I need to fit another. all because of that barbed edge the scarlet rings have about 12mm down the sides.
get rid of that nasty barb (using a lathe and holding them gently) and the rings now work a treat. alas, the 'chopping' happened after the fresh slate was done and I had no technical input on how tight is tight.
If drilling the holes on another fresh slate i now have the correct ID for the slate for the rings to be a nice tight, tap fit. It's in my thread "A.N.Other table - Quiet Please!"

that's a quote from me on our little Facebook page Dave has there folks! yes we have a simple pub tournament at The King Street Run in the middle of Cambridge in......King Street! on; Saturday 27th July 2019 2-6pm Doubles, drawn on the day. Called 'blind doubles'. £3 entry. Table free. All welcome - low key as we are trying to get people to start playing the game but we will be short of players - enough to make it be something. Would love 8-16 to be there. I expect 6-8 at the most. £30 (depending on entries obviously) to the winning pair. It's a Jelks in average nick but plays true enough. 4-pin. skittles. would be two groups of teams if we have enough otherwise "we'll play it by ear". Atmosphere is excellent and a bell rung when a '200' hole is scored (pat. app. Colin Southouse). So anyone with a free Saturday feel free to get up to the KSR and join us! I think it's about 800 yards from the railway station. have I missed anything Dave? LOL!!! cheers! Taffy

the resolution of the photo makes it clear they haven't quite reached gloss finish, but a piece of P1500 and keeping the temp down would probably see a nice "Gloss" finish. They look great in green though!!!

welcome friend, have a look round and we do have a thread on BB in the USa. there are a few tables oevr there. recently there was a TV programme with our snooker player 'Ronnie O Sullivan' visiting your shores. he entered a warehouse and two BB tables were stacked there. they've got to be for sale i'd reckon.
cheers

take a chill bean triplex. we're having a discussion so avoid inflammatory openers and lots of exclamation marks. it's a chat alright! sorry - alright.
we'll play these new rules next saturday, then discuss them, change them a bit etc and it'll be fine. the 'chat' is the bad side, the good side is that you have made some great moves for the sake of the game and will i hope be applauded for them when the time comes.
but it proves a coming of age for AEBBA and after this, say they are your rules and don't claim them to be anyone else's just AEBBA's. We all know that sudbury is the home of 4-pin and has given us a platform. here at the 'Newmarket & Cambridge' we just copied Sudbury's rules. changed one. simple!
as for jeremy having no chance, Jeremy, you'll have a better chance, not a poorer chance. I've seen NS and PO try and clear up a mess in 4-pin and it isn't easy. to do the 50/50 or ANY break shot, first you have to clear the table..... as any 4-pinner knows, often, the only break shot is the one that starts the game and I've never had any trouble with that! (oops i mean any trouble with that.)
as long as they are allowed to change rules for a one off competition under sub clauses then that's that. in motorcycling they are often called, 'the day rules' and are particular to that quirky track or pit or place.
let's just all stand in a circle and give the guy on the left his entrance fee back and be happy
