I think the only concern from most people will be how Covid restrictions will be by then. Other than that most of us will be keen to attend

Everyone involved puts a huge amount of work in on a voluntary basis. Whatever happens I plan to enjoy the weekend and will appreciate their efforts

I've spoken to a couple of players that are of the impression you can turn up on the day and enter, is this the case?

Mark and Phil,
You're too good lads that both do a lot for the game and nobody wants to see you in a public fall out. I spoke to Mark last week and he has struggled to get things sorted this year and was disappointed with what he viewed as a significant amount of negative feedback. With this and starting a new job it's not an easy time. Would be good if the two of you could talk privately as the idea of all working together makes good sense. We alk snap at times and say things we later regret, best to put them aside if you can.
All the best to both of you
Phil

Chris
I'm coming along but have not yet entered as I don't have a partner, do you know of anyone that's looking to pair up at all. If so they can get in touch with me on my mobile 07415258782.
All the best

And so another Open comes to an end! Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Open yesterday at our new venue, which hopefully you will all agree was a great success. We would like to thank Theresa and her team from Cressex Club, and to Amber for the lovely food and for stepping in at the last minute. Well done to Mark for winning the 16th Bucks Open, to Bob for winning the Plate, Kevin and Ian Morton (flying the flag for Wycombe!) the losing finalists, and to all the semi and quarter finalists. Also, congratulations to Keith on the highest break (22,230) and to Jean on the highest ladies break (7,230). Keith I have your trophy & money, and Colin Robbins I have your trophy & money - will bring them both to the Berkshire Open. Lastly, thank you to all the guys from Wycombe for helping unload/load the tables, Ernie for setting them up, Dave & family for delivering them, special thanks to Doug for all your help, the table sponsors, Sue & Jeff for selling the raffle tickets, all the people who donated prizes, Pauline, Lin, Amanda & Jake(x) for folding the raffle tickets, Nigel but mostly your 'assistant' Jean for doing the format, and lastly Chris, for giving your precious time up again, I couldn't do it without you - same time next year? :):) x Hope to see you all again next year, Dawn.

I had to chuckle when I saw this tie.... Phil Griffin v Ian Moss as Phil comes down from Nottingham to Oxford to take Ian to Kent! Good job they're very good friends... PS Watch out Phil as Ian now has a nice clean cue with a new tip that a very nice person did for him... Not a problem, if ian wins I will cheer him on in the main and I am sure he will support me in the plate (no Damien Cotes in that) and I am sure we will do the other way round should I win. On the other hand I could forget to pick him up, would I get a bye then?

I have no idea what I am doing on this and seem to be sending everyone's messages around randomly, the intention is to contact Stephen in Nottingham as I am a Bar Billiard player that lives about 8 miles from where he plays. There is also a table in the Corner Pin at Morton in Derbyshire, I have not been in for about 18 months but it was a good top and they had a few locals that were keen, may be worth calling them to see if they want to put a team up for a friendly game. The landlord is called Steve and they have a website and facebook page. You would need to set up rules to play by as they allplay off the spot which is not good if you are trying to learn the game for playing other counties.

Hello to Bar Billiards Players of Northants. After putting to the group the possibility of a match against another county, the enthusiastic response leads me to post here. Looking at the list of venues you have it seems that the Cock Hotel would be best for us to get to, and also provides us with the opportunity of playing a 'B' team. We would like to come from Nottingham to the Cock Hotel at some point within the next 6 weeks to play our first ever inter county match, looking at the scores posted for your 'B' team we think we should be able to challenge. We are looking at it as a learning experience as we have never met a player who was not entirely self taught. Our (provisional) team is: Ben Crowe Stephen Smith Max Bollu Amy Aplin Daniel Overton And obviously we would be more than happy to host a return leg Any questions or ideas on dates on this thread please. Yours in Anticipation Stephen Smith

I think that confidence is definitely the key, I hadn't played for 11 years before going this year. I managed to find a table near Alfreton in derbyshire to practice on and got to the stage where I hit double figure breaks without a problem. As with you as soon as I pulled the bar in the tournament the nerves took over and my play was really poor. Still a great weekend though.

Not sure how the Hastings league works, but the Eynsham league (Oxon) works on a 3 person team and you play your opponent twice so that everyone gets a break. If you have a limited number of players this is a very enjoyable system. Which ever way you plan to move forward I wish you all the best.

Not so sure the scores confirm this, unless Pauline, Bob and Lewis are excellent at soring along the top then they all got the break back!!!! :D

Hello Keith,
Its easy when you ask the right questions, didn't expect to get quite the debate going that has happened. Got some very good replys though. For anyone else picking up on this at no point was the question asked in a way that was to suggest that potting was less skillful than splitting as I think they are both difficult at times. And in no way would I ever suggest that potting is banned, no more than splitting should be that is far too negative an approach and the variety is what makes this tournament so good. In Reply to tommo's comment I did watch most of the Jersey players at some time, but not Trevor Gallienne, but looking at his scores maybe he is the most likely to get success and if I get back I will look forward to watching him (hopefully not as his opponent).
Phil
Moved from the Oxford league board!

After many years away from the game I was talked into entering the World Championships in Jersey this year. What a fantastic event it turned out to be, extremely well run and full of very friendly people from every league. There was even a feeling of Deja Vu as Kevin Tunstall won the tournament, just as he did last time I went many years ago.
It was interesting to see the variatons of play as most English players tended to play using the split method whilst the Jersey players, and some English players, went for the more safety conscious method of potting on the 50 pockets.Whilst both are very skillful, I feel, having watched many games using both options it appears that until the Jersey players try to work out the split they are highly unlikely to win the competition as potting reduces the scoring rate too significantly. From a personal point of view I think this is a shame as it would be nice to see one of their guys win (no offence Kevin :)) as they put in so much effort to provide us with a great event.
Am I missing something or does this appear to be the case?

Looks like the Vikings table is playing well, good scores in the first game in particular. Nice to see my old mate Ian Moss is playing well.
