Just to add to the list of trophies Steve has mentioned above, Gillian Cass is kindly going to donate a perpetual trophy for the highest single leg score made during the day in memory of our great friend Chris Cass. the single leg score can be made at any stage of the event, ie the league section, or any leg in the main or plate competition including a single leg score in the best of two legs.

Just a quick note for those of you who may be looking for accommodation over our open weekend in March. The Bay Horse is already fully booked for both the Friday and Saturday nights, but I have spoken to the new tenant at The Lady Elizabeth in town, formally The Black Boy. The ladies name is Emma and she has told me that if anyone books rooms directly with the pub for that weekend and mention it is for the event at the Masonic Hall she will make sure you get a 20% discount on their standard rate and if required they will also give you a complimentary breakfast. If anyone does book rooms could you also let me know so I can liaise with Emma to make sure the bookings are confirmed. The lady Elizabeth only have a few rooms so it is probably best to book sooner rather than later. For those of you that don't know, the place is located on the market hill and only a five minute walk from the Masonic Hall Dave Hmmmmm, it seems the nice lady called Emma has done a runner from the lady elizabeth and its now shut. Please let me know if anyone has booked a room there so I can speak to Greene King

I was back at ye olde bell and steelyard today and their table is no more, it has been removed from the pub and now laying in pieces in a shed waiting to be collected by sx leisure. The slate is in very good condition but that's about it, the quality mdf used to build the table has seen better days and to be honest as it's a supreme table it looks beyond repair if it has a slate dave, please save the slate. I'd come down for it if you can get it saved. I didn't think Supremes had a slate and were all MDF? cheers! Taffy Hi mate, the supreme of supreme tables had slate beds. As I said the table is sitting in a shed waiting to be collected by sx leisure, I should be back at the pub in a month or so, if the table is still there I'll offer to get rid of it for him and if that fails I will ask him how much he wants for it

I can also confirm that there is still a table in ye olde bell and steelyard in Woodbridge but it totally unplayable, the cloth has more holes and rips in it than my socks. Plus it's another supreme I was back at ye olde bell and steelyard today and their table is no more, it has been removed from the pub and now laying in pieces in a shed waiting to be collected by sx leisure. Seems to be as your table is a self build you are better off covering the entire table with cloth. On a commercial table the slate playing area is separate to the baulk area so can be and are covered separately

The World Four Pin Championships will take place at The Masonic Hall, Sudbury, Suffolk on Saturday 25th March 2023 with a 10-30 am start hopefully attached is an entry form. We have made these available far earlier than normal because at the recent Chris Cass 4x4 event we had people asking for entry forms and indeed received some entries over the weekend and therefore it is only fair to make them available to everyone as numbers are limited and entries are taken on a first come first served basis. 00 entry form master 2023.docx (99.1 KB)

Gillian has asked me to send her thanks to everyone.
It also gives me great pleasure to say that although it was never our intentions to use the weekend to raise money for charity we did actually raise £180 for SARS, £80 from the blind doubles £73 from the speed challenge plus a donation from the speed challenge winner James Baker who kindly gave back £27 of his winnings.
It is also great that following the weekend we already have 5 paid up entries for next year's 4 pin World championship
Thanks again to everyone Dave

When the timer has timed out the bar should be free and drop down easily, so it does sound like some kind of adjustment and lubrication of the bar hinges is all that is needed

Does the timer actually work? Are you saying if you gently push the bar that it does go down? Or is the clock mechanism holding it up? There should be a distinctive clunk when the timer releases the bar latch and then gravity should play its part and the bar drop down.
A picture taken from above the clock would be helpful, best taken when the timer has finished ticking so we know the bar should of dropped and then a picture of the bar and actuator as in your last picture.
What ever you don't go spraying WD40 or similar inside the clock, a little lubricant on the bar pivot points at each end probably wouldn't go a miss

Hi Dave. here's my 10 pence worth, we used to hold a speed break comp at Finals nights some years ago and it was £1.00 per go winner takes all & 1 minutes play so 50p is a good deal especially if it's split. Good luck for a great competition. Ian. I know the break on 3 and 4 pin are totally different but what were the rules? If your break goes belly up do you get a chance to start again? There again I guess with 3 pin and only one minute if you break down there isn't really any reason to start again if you still have some time left. To stop the 150 break shot we are considering starting with the triangle break

Players that I know of who are entering the doubles on Friday night. 1 Tony Jenner 2 Rick Cunningham 3 Mal Spier 4 Jim Balchin 5 John Slee 6 Chris Saville 7 Alan Mee 8 Brett Parker 9 Steve Hale 10 Jeff Bridges 11 Paul Gooch 12 Tracey Reeve
We need a maximum of 16 players.
We also plan to have a ninth table available over the weekend, this will be used for a little fun tournament, two minutes per play with the aim of making the highest break you can in the time. I suggest people put 50p in the kitty for each attempt and at the end of Saturday the player with the highest recorded break takes half the money while the other half is donated to SARS. I am just not sure if 50p per go is too much, let me know your thoughts before I draw up some kind of rules.
See you all in a couple of weeks
Dave

The Suffolk BBA will be holding a meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday) to finalise plans for the 4x4 and hopefully do the draw. The format will be teams split into two groups of 5. Top of each group then play each other for winner and runner up. Second from each group play off for 3rd and 4th and so on and on and on. It would be handy if teams could PM me the names of your players within the next week.
Alan Mee will be organising a blind doubles comp on the Friday night, 6-30 for a 7pm start. If you fancy entering please let us know.
See you all next month

The Brook Gloves have confirmed tonight that they will be entering the Chris Cass 4x4 so the Suffolk BBA have decided to close entries now as we have 10 teams and an odd number of teams would make life very hard to schedule. I believe Northants are the only team travelling to Sudbury on the day so if they can make it ready for a 10am start on the day then that's what we will be aiming for. Start time and draw will be confirmed in a couple of weeks See you all next month Dave
