Well done to Sav and Michael on some excellent armchair coverage. A partial answer to Sav's semi-finals query ... Richard Cox beat Norwich's Dave Brewer and Jeff Bridges beat current Sudbury No.1 Alan Giles in the Main; whilst Mal Spier beat Jason Lawrence and Jeremy Fry beat Connor Cansdale in the Plate. So well done to Third-time-lucky-in-the-Final Jeff Bridges and well done too to Coxy, adding to last year's Plate Win. As has been noted, a new slant on the rules this year has courted some controversy: rough on James Whittle yes, and fortuitous for moi, but one huge benefit was that it enabled the last 32's to be seeded thus, 1 v 32, 2 v 31 etc, rather than having the problem of how to fit in the winner and runner-up of the extra group 17. Anyway, the day was (as always in Suffolk) most enjoyable and very well run. Huge thanks to the organisers: Dave Lillie background work with booking, Paul Gooch for venue and Cathy for her work in the kitchen, those manning the bar and the young lass who worked her socks off all day collecting the glasses, and of course Steve Hale updating of results with occasional help, and acting as auctioneer at the end of the huge raffle conducted by Jeremy who of course owns the set of tables. The day before was the Blind Pairs, officiated by Alan Mee and hopefully some notes will be provided on thatFrom the Friday night pairs £205 ( Additional £1 donated by Mike Mc Andrews -- who cant count , The odd £1 was put in the SARS collection bucket ) was raised in entry fees .. all of which will be donated to SARS ( Suffolk Accident Rescue Services ) THANK YOU EVERY BODY .... Results ...............Who really cares about results on a Friday night ...oh yes Tommo ..and maybe them that win !!
Well done everybody and thanks again .

Alan Turner on this Forum (genuine guy, we see him at the E.Anglian 4-Pin each year) has just completed a new build and placed it on eBay HERE at a 1750 GBP buy-it-now or "make-an-offer". There is one just about to finish for 400 GBP but that's just a table top (no legs) - which realistically is all you can expect for that sort of money. Thanks for the advert Tommo ..............................£1550 on Facebook Marketplace ............. will have another one the same eady in 3/4 weeks. Then I have 2 to refurb that I bought in South Wales 2 weeks ago ......2 trips . Then I have materials ( and slates ) for 2 more new builds , 1 of them will have an original timer/mechanism . I have 3 or 4 large size Bar Room Skittles Tables 850 x 600 on the go !! i will be in Sudbury , East Anglia on the 1st Sept for the Blind Pairs and the following day 2nd Sept for the 4 x 4

WORLD 4 PIN , SUDBURY 2023 .....................FRIDAY NIGHT 24th DRAWN PAIRS COMPETITION .................RETHINK ABOUT DRAWN PAIRS ... DUE TO 28 PEOPLE AT LEAST WANTING TO PLAY , THE FORMAT WILL BE CHANGED IF ALL TURN UP ON THE NIGHT AND ENTER BEFORE 6.30 SO EVERYONE CAN PLAY ............NO RESERVES NOW !! ALL WILL PLAY ....... Pairs knockout …………. with 16 teams …………….. 4 round robin leagues …….quarter , semi and final !! every pair gets at least 4 games . If not 32 people its easy to put BYES in prior to draw . BYES counts as a win . ……….. plus a secondary knockout for the 3rd and 4th places in the mini leagues that's 38 games total… Using all 8 tables available!! , So we should finish earlier than previously ! 😁 ….( If we have an even number of entrants 🤔🤔 )…… … ... ( Note :- Previously when we had 16 entrants there was 31 games played on 4 tables ‼ ) 1. ALAN MEE 2. CHRIS SAVILLE 3. STEVE HALE 4. KEIREN PETTITT 5. JAMES BAKER 6. BRENDEN HOARE 7. MATT PAWLEY 8. The World Four Pin Championships will take place at The Masonic Hall, Sudbury, Suffolk on Saturday 25th March 2023 with a 10-30 am start hopefully attached is an entry form. We have made these available far earlier than normal because at the recent Chris Cass 4x4 event we had people asking for entry forms and indeed received some entries over the weekend and therefore it is only fair to make them available to everyone as numbers are limited and entries are taken on a first come first served basis. View Attachment 25th MARCH 2023 THE WORLDS 4 PIN
ENTRIES POSITIONS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR THIS AMAZING WORLD EVENT , GET YOUR ENTRY IN BEFORE IT IS TO LATE , DONT BE DISAPPOINTED . ITS FOR A GREAT CHARITY ............ SO COME ON GET YOUR ENTRIES IN .......SUDBURY NEEDS YOU !!!!

Thank you. That’s very helpful. When tapping the rings out, do any specials considerations need to be made regarding the wooden rings underneath the slate? Not usually wood ..... compressed cardboard tube or a compersite ........... if they will tap out it may be an advantage .....some have little tacks holding them in !!!! DO NOT TAP OUT FROM REVERSE SIDE , IT WILL BREAK THE SLATE AWAY AROUNDTHE EDGES OF THE HOLE !Should they be pried off before tapping the rings out? If you can , Yes
Also, when reinstalling the rings, is it better to use a filler/ caulk to retain them, instead of re-using the wooden rings? I just use caulk/filler , it hold well but is easy to remove at a future date . I just squeeze it all round from the gun smooth it with finger , then when its dry i paint them black .

My table (Sam's narrow) sat unused for a couple months, and when I pulled the cover off to play, noticed that moth larvae had eaten the baize on the playfield and were even worse in the lower ball return/runners. I'll clearly need to recover, but I've never done this before and want to make sure everything is done as well as possible. I've contacted a local billiards service company and talked with them. I'm in the states, and they've never worked on, (or even seen, for that matter) a bar billiards table. So now I'm wondering if I should just attempt to do everything myself instead of having them potentially ruin something. As I decide whether to attempt the job myself, I've scoured these forums, and have realized how little I know, and would appreciate any tips or info regarding these questions. Apologies for the long and rambling post.
1) while recovering, what other precautions would you take to prevent the moths returning? I'm worried their eggs will be embedded in areas outside of the baize. I've thought about removing the infested baize, vacuuming multiple times, and taking the table outside and spraying insecticide everywhere.
2) Do the ball return runners come out easily? I read in another thread that someone with moth issues replaced the cloth in there with strips of adhesive backed synthetic baize. I'm assuming this was done without removing the wooden runners, which are nailed into the bottom board? I'm worried my return area is a single piece of cloth with the wood runners nailed over it, making it near impossible to remove all of the baize without also removing the wooden tracks.
3) I've read a few posts about gently tapping the red cups out before removing the plaster, but my game has wooden rings on all but 1 of the cups. Should these wooden rings be pried off prior to cup removal? What direction are you tapping the cups? hitting them from the baize side/top so they come up from below the slate, or hitting from below and removing from the top? I'm assuming you hit them from below, but just want to be sure.
4) does anyone have an extra wooden ring they'd be willing to sell and ship? I've just used wall repair paste to hold the cup that was missing the wood ring. I guess I may not need to replace the missing ring if the paste proves to be easier to deal with than the wooden rings.
I appreciate any information shared.
-Jesse

The Suffolk BBA will be holding a meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday) to finalise plans for the 4x4 and hopefully do the draw. The format will be teams split into two groups of 5. Top of each group then play each other for winner and runner up. Second from each group play off for 3rd and 4th and so on and on and on. It would be handy if teams could PM me the names of your players within the next week. Alan Mee will be organising a blind doubles comp on the Friday night, 6-30 for a 7pm start. If you fancy entering please let us know. See you all next month Dave As Dave has pointed there will be a drawn pairs comp on the Friday night . Please put your name down on HERE asap It will be a drawn on the night blind pairs , round robin format to suit number of entrants with a semi final and final knockout .£5.00 per entrant with proceeds going to SUFFOLK ACCIDENT RESCUE SERVICES (SARS) There will be trophys for winners and runners-up .6.30 for a 7.00pm start . Please support a great cause ...🙂🙂🙂

If you listen to the whole song it's brilliant indirect summation of those few of us who are not afraid to put our heads above the parapet and make the effort, often criticised, to run things for the benefit of others and then quietly disappear at the end of the line.
Such a talent that band and only two of the five still alive.
Way off topic now but I disabled the mobile phone version of the forum months ago, JB was the only one who commented. Thus, as far as I am aware, everyone sees exactly the same. None of the nice add-ons and controls work on the mobile version.
That is part of the point of version six, there will only be one homologated version of the forum, no separate mobile version. Main problem will be the niceties we have built over the years, many will not work. I'll get the forum across to version six but much of the rebuild of the tailored stuff will be down our successors in leadership. New faces may have new ideas, I'm old fashioned and it would be wrong to stamp my wizened outlook on such a major reincarnation of the forum.
Back on topic:
All league equipment has now been sold and paid for, I've been down to the local lifeboat station and the former league will be paying for a complete replacement of all PPE the crews are supplied with to comply with the latest H&S, if anything is left over it will go to fuel costs. I had to laugh at the change in attitude at the station entrance when I asked to see the officer in charge. The attitude of the staff changed dramatically when I said I had a cheque for £12½k to give him! Press publicity presentation still to be arranged.
Sad but it will benefit others in more dire situations than the loss of a bar billiard league, but for me and my league it's "The End of The Line".
Maybe somewhere down the road a ways (at the end of the line) You'll think of me and wonder where I am these days (at the end of the line)
End of the line ................ very apt .................After all the years of hard work put in by many , Chris and his band of helpers over the years ......... It must be very disappointing ( judging by the responses on here ), to realise that virtually no body gives a f*** any more . So so sad the end of an era . The one thing that Chris to look forward to is continued visits to Sudbury were there is always enthusiasm and a warm welcome plus some great games to be played . Alan

We are planning to have a blind pairs knock about on Friday 24th March, the day before the main open. Alan Mee has made a couple of trophies for the winners & runners-up , each player chucks a fiver in the hat, winners get half he money and the other half goes to SARS. it would really handy if we can get an idea of numbers and what time those coming to Sudbury on the Friday will be arriving I should add that the bar will be open So ................... who is coming up on the Friday and wants there name on the pairs list ? ? ? ??
Need to know if possible ............ Should be a good night ...... Winners ar quite welcome to donate the half they win to
SUFFOLK ACCIDENT RESCUE SERVICES .... they need it !!!! The last 2 years has not been kind to there funds !!!

I am in South Wales not far from Cardiff. I would be willing to drive 3 to 4 hours each way to collect one. Make a day trip of it with a mate. I am waiting at the moment to finish the house. Covid has put a halt on it for now. But let's say if you drew a line from Blackpool to Leeds then down to Brighton anywhere to the south west of that line is my travel area. email me at [edited] Just mention that you are from Cardiff area and outline what sort of table you want wide / narrow , modern , old , refurb etc etc ............cost then i can let you know what i can fix you up with Cheers

When its complete you can decide if you want it or not , this is not a problem for me as i know it will sell easily at the price i have said . Cheers Alan

Hi , Alanturner here As Dave says i have just commenced a new build slate bed wide BB Table , the body will be from solid Mahogany and Oak ( NOT CHIPBOAR) The timer/mechanism will be electronic , the front face of the timer will look similar to a traditional pull handle timer ( free play not coins required ) It will be battery powered ( battery will play in excess of 2000 games before it will need a re charge , a charger is supplied )It can be set to an accurate time easily ) The table will have new cushions/rubbers , cloth and mushrooms/skittles . Probably be 4/5 weeks....depending on the whether..............whether i bother going down to my chilly workshop !!! When completed i will be doing another one , similar speck .
I also have a Narrow BB Table with a slate top , traditional timer full kit etc etc , its a refurb , i use it my self but if anyone is looking for one , then it may be for sale at the right price
Note :- The BB Table i had for sale on Ebay ( NOW SOLD ) had an MDF top , the top was actually from a snooker/pool table (cut and redrilled) it has a thin plastic coating on the playing surface below the cloth it also has reinforcing struts to the under side and is probably as flat and level as many slate tables , in fact if you were not told it was not slate then a lot of people would never even guess !! It had a simple manual drop bar and an independant timer (Salter Beer Timer .....when it rings you drop the bar and get another pint !! The price was a give away compared to the sky high prices now appearing on Ebay...............£2000 for a Jelks with NO timer or drop bar ! 3 other BB Tables ranging from £!900 to £3000.......really !!

Nice set of hinges yo obtained there Tommo , Ivor s done you proud . The ones from " Wixroyds " have to be " antiqued "..............shaped a bit and then painted black !! Then they look the dogs . Table has moved along nicely today..........will post photos of progress at end of tomorrow .
