I've been thinking of this for a while and felt its about time I did something about it...
I will shortly be creating a website to highlight all the known bar billiards venues in the UK, giving addresses, links to the venues website (if any) and regular reviews.
Obviously I'm going to need help from ALL of you to set this up, so can you all please collate as much information as you can about: Your league venues Any other venues in your area that have a non-league table.
The kind of information I need will be FULL address including postcode, any web-links to the venue and any photos you might have. It would also be helpful to know what nights the table is used for league games (or others) and any other nights to avoid eg pub quiz, bingo, live bands etc.
This will be a slow process but I hope to have the basis of the site running within the next couple of weeks.
You can find my email address in my profile, or send any info to: bar-billiards(at)ukpub.net obviously replacing the (at) with @
I have webspace reserved and waiting, all I need is the information (and a little free time)
I will then just need reviewers to visit the non league venues every now and then.

I was starting this on the AEBBA site with the test map but never really got it going.
Good idea Bernie.
Do you need a separate website though?
Chris.

Yes, I'm a fan of this idea too.
I can help perhaps with some of the research I have made on tables in the London and Greater London area (though being off work I don't currently have access to the spreadsheet I started).

Is one a keen webmaster Julian?? I'm always keen to see other people find enjoyment in developing a website. It's something everyone with moderate computer literacy should try. Unfortunately I don't have enough free time to devote to many projects outside of my work time, but I'm happy to help out where I can. A project like this will no doubt need some technical wizardry behind the scenes and if my experience can save many hours/days of development time, everyone's a winner!

Cheers Julian, Always looking for someone younger and keen to take over some of my responsibilities!! I am stretched far too thin at the moment and bar billiards is taking an increasingly back seat. Not treading on Bernie's toes, but the concept can be done quite simply with a series of maps. A general one with regions that point to more detailed ones, all simple HTML. The detailed maps can point to pages of info. I have done similar in one of my sites. Click hereThat concept could have a higher level map of the country. Quite easy technically, I'm just strapped for time. Sav

I've done things like this before. You can use Google Maps to display pin markers of several different points on a map, so if someone clicks on a region of a UK map then they could be shown a map similar to the store locator I did for a local tile company: www.tilestoreplus.co.uk/store_locator.aspIf you click on a pin marker it shows the address details of that store, which contains a link to a more detailed page of information about the store. The only problem is that each pin marker has to have the longitude and latitude co-ordinates specified, which may take a while with the number of bar billiards venues you have!

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys Sav.I personally think a new website for this project could be very helpful, the more web presence we have the better, BUT we can always link it to the official site. Love the site, VERY good and similar layout to what I had in mind. CliveI'm RELYING on your input IanTotally sober JulianThanks for the offer, I'll let you know, I'm only an amateur web designer, I did my first site around 10 years ago and keep looking at other peoples source code to improve my skills. EveryoneI'm blown away by the level of expertise shown by our members. and finally... thanks to H who has supplied the info for the Laughing Fish, the first piece of detailed information I have recieved.

A rather half-baked example of someone who has attempted this already is to be found here: www.tradgames.org.uk/locations/Bar-Billiards.htmHowever, there are some interesting recent updates on b/b venues in such far-flung outposts as Wiltshire and Canterbury. :o ;D ;D

Yes I liased with James Masters quite a lot a few years ago, you'll find a few of my submissions on the site.
I did start a test page on the AEBBA site some months ago, but left it as Q's baby - could be resurrected.
