I have felt that the forum has been getting disorganised and sprawling as we have added boards.
I'm grouping the leagues into counties and topics into sub boards, eg individual AEBBA boards under a main AEBBA board.
Makes new posts less easy to spot, but you have the display last XX posts feature.
It will allow for further expansion should it happen.
Give yourself time to adjust to the new organisation

To make the new format work properly you may need to make two changes to your profile
1) Expand sub-boards ----
This should be set to 'No' or you will see a mess of posts under the list of sub boards rather like the 'View Last XX Posts'
2) Hide sub boards ----
Obviously this should be set to 'No'

Great work by the Forum Staff (and proboards) to recover the lost information...... big vote of thanks for all of your hard work! 8-) ;D
Very sorry to hear that we will be losing Tommo as a Global Mod.... :'( ..... he has left behind a very large pair of shoes for somebody to try to fill in the future. :-/

As the unwitting author of the recent disruption, I think it only fair that I should have one of my 'stripes' removed, and someone more competent take my place.
After due consideration I have agreed to stay on as the Quizmeister (unless anyone else wants to take on the task !) and in order to be able to function would need to remain on 'Forum Staff' in view of the 'shuffling' (bumping and archiving) that is a necessary evil.
I can only apologise to everyone on the Forum for the headache of the last few days.

As Graham has said, mistakes can happen to anyone, so I for one would love Clive to stay on as Global Moderator as he does a terrific job on this forum. He's always happy to send me kind messages of support & advice whenever I've had to do any moderating of posts. Keith.

I think we should be gratefull that we have people that knew exactly what to do in this situation, & Proboards were able to roll back to a restore point.
Tommo no one is going to fall out with you or blame you & we are back to normal now & have learnt something. So stop beating yourself up because no body else is, there is no need to throw in the towel.

Thank you all for your messages of support, also to Duncan Disorderly and the Colemanator for their messages of solidarity sent privately.
But it can't be a bad thing to have a shake up once in a while, and by me falling on my sword it offers the hierarchy a bit of extra scope for change.
I'm still willing to post reports and run the quizzes, so you'll hardly notice the difference ! ;)

Clive
Running a huge Data base in a school which gives me total authority.. I could like you delete anything and make a mistake.. that is life and unlike you I have very little IT skills!!
I do offer to back the system, not by me but through my staff if that will help and someone gives access for my staff to do it..if that helps.. if not not then ignore.
but please don't give up... you have always been committed and respected. We would not be human if we didn't make an odd mistake.
Thanks Chris

Thank you very much Chris, but I am a firm believer in accountability.
I count myself lucky in that the situation caused by a sort of "Black Peg" blunder turned out not to be as irretrievable as first thought: ProBoards have done us a great favour.
Also the skills of others have been demonstrated, so at least some good has come from the bad. Also it may help people who view the Forum but are quick to knock it to realise what a vital part of our lives it has become.
Unfortunately I am still going through the worst part of my working life which has turned into a war of attrition, and am constantly preoccupied. Whilst it continues like this I am a bit of a liability and it is for this reason that I must stand down.

Couple of points on this;
Clive has been asked by all of the senior management to reconsider. Accidents happen and the fact that problem was as serious as it was is due to there being no way to satisfactorily backup this forum. That is not his fault.
Proboards were eventually helpful but only after refusals and a lot of prodding. The fact there there is no routine individual security backups on an operation this size is pretty poor. It's also a captive audience as you cannot migrate the forum to another platform.
There are promises that next release of a new version of Proboards will be much better, but that's been on the cards for over a year.
Thus we are stuck with it for now.
I'm trying to involve the rest of the senior management in structural board maintenance as my time is speedily becoming more limited due to a major promotion in another organisation I help with and where much of my future efforts will lie. Thus an accident has happened and Tommo should feel no remorse over it. It's vital someone else understands the internal workings of the board structure.
Access to the critical board functions will now be restricted for the time being, so there is no danger of this happening again unless I do it (and that would not be the first time!!). So if Tommo wants to stay as a global mod the board would welcome it.
Sav.

Thanks for every second that everyone involved in proboards spends making it work for us. 8-) Everything done is done on a voluntary basis :) The top boys have all asked Tommo to reconsider so I believe there to be no political issue to stop this. There is only the chance to learn So everybody let us see a public support of Clive and thanks for the incredible work done to protect the forum!!

Having now had the new format here for a couple of weeks, would it be possible for the Quizzes to have a separate area on their own rather than being included with the General Discussion and Chat section?
As the quizzes tend to have more replies than most of the other topics, I find it quite easy to miss some of the other posts on this section as they rarely, if ever, show up as the "most recent" post. :-/
Does anybody else find the same..... or is it just me? ::) ;D
Apart from that, I think that the changes have made a great improvement overall...... 8-)

Hi Dave,
Been toying with the idea on quizzes myself.
I'll give it a go
Thanks for the other comments
I'd also been toying with moving the non members area into the discussion group. I'd kept it separate to have it readily visible to encourage non members, but it gets little creative use and could be easily found in discussion.

Thanks for initiating this Dave.
I had not wanted to make any more changes without feedback. However seeing how it goes for a couple of weeks and then reviewing is a good strategy.
I've also put Jersey and Guernsey into their own group with a new board for any new bar billiards finds. I've opened this to all posters as a trial so mods keep an eye on that board for anything non compliant.
If we get any interests from non AEBBA areas we can review creation of their own areas.
Anyone know any contact info for Wellingborough / Sudbury as four pin could be an interesting addition.

Hi Sav Can I make a suggestion ? Whilst I do not mind being grouped with Jersey as "International" I think it is unfair that the Jersey and Guernsey names have dissapeared completely from the home page and they are not even listed below, without clicking on the header. Could you look at this again by perhaps as a sub heading saying i.e. Guernsey/Jersey and other non UK Bar Billiards matters. Thank you Norman.
Congratulations on all your other "fine tuning" though.

Should Channel Islands be included as a mainland county??
If so, should there be an Inter Insular board in that group?.
Answers mainly from Jersey & Guernsey pls.

EDIT - replies in separate thread please

Made a couple of minor alterations to the default Chubbskin.
Rollover colour change on categories and boards.
Toned down the horrible green popup window colour (birthdays etc).
Changed the main header logo to reflect our aims (job and a half!!).
Fine tuning on colours.
