Dear all,
With the limited stock of tables now and having to make do with what we've got, does the team think it would be a good idea to relax the rule about the distance between the red and white spots and increase them a little?
It certainly gives you a lot more flexibility when setting up a table and the present rule of "not less than six and three quarters inches and not more than seven and one sixteenth inches from the centre of the break spot on the "D" could be altered to (say) "not less than six and a half inches and not more than seven and a half inches from the centre of the break spot on the "D"
Even at the present maximum, some tables are still left with a tricky break and I cannot for the life of me, understand why such weird values were chosen in the first place - perhaps it was translated from the metric... :)
Any thoughts?
cheers Tony

Hi Tony
I can't see no reason why the distance between the spots can't be increased a little but as you know it has to be done officially at the AGM in December, which is only just over two months away now.
Anyway, the rule should now be in metric, as my proposal below was passed at the last AGM.
(To change all the rules with measurements into metric, ie the distance between the spots from 6 & 3/4in’s to a maximum 7 & 1/16thin’s to a metric equivalent of 17cms to 18 cms.)
If someone with brains can change them over and put them on here, then perhaps we will get the AEBBA rules updated for this particular change in the rules.
Other rules that need to be changed in the current set are;
1. The start time of AEBBA Tournaments has changed from a 12.00 start to an 11.30 start.
2. The change in voting on proposals is now (All associations (leagues) that are part of a County that is affiliated to the AEBBA are entitled to one vote each at the AGM, with one vote only per person.)

Not sure what is wrong with a tricky break, the better players will get it, good play rewarded. Should we really be moving spots to nail the break on? Should players be playing the table, or should we altering the table for the player?
