The senior staff of the board have had a look at options. While we regret the cessation of the BBQ, it does not have to be the last chapter in reports and rankings. We have decided that we need to be more proactive with the AEBBA website in conjunction with this board. To this effect a new site will be set up www.aebba.org . More detailed national results will be published on there, provided tournament organisers supply them in elctronic form to Nigel for the remainder of this year. We will look at maintaining rankings based on the suggested alterations that were intended for this year. The initiative for maintaining rankings and publishing results will be very much with the tournament organisers. No results received, no inclusion. Dave Alder has obviously been included in the loop. The site will take time to develop and will be based on the old site with some changes. Early days and we will see how much work it entails. Let us know what you want to see. The Senior Staff.

Sounds good, Sav. 8-)
AEBBA Website and British Bar Billiards Forum to complement each other and work in harmony - it's what we've been wanting for ages. There could yet be 'life after Fazza' - though he won't thank me for saying so.

It is early days but I have put a lot of things in place to continue doing the rankings. I have a spreadsheet set up with all the current positions minus only the Oxford Open details (Eng v Jersey has been calculated). Myself and Sav feel it appropriate (for now) to keep Fazza's current system but also implement his intended changes he detailed in BBQ63. Once I have the Oxford details from Milhouse I will send Sav an up to date full list of the rankings.
I can only reiterate what Sav says in that we need cooperation from tournament organisers, it is not fair that players do not receive ranking points if the tournament organisers fail to get results to me and of course the rankings becomes meaningless if not all the correct tournaments are included. At this stage I will also mention that all leg scores (not match aggregates) are required to keep the system going as they are needed to award score bonusses.
I also believe that a ranking sub commitee needs to be set up, like the one we have in Brighton, to discuss once a year the ranking system and whether changes are needed. I don't think it a good idea that the ranking system be controlled solely by one person, and it is better to have as much input from the collective bar billiards minds as possible, and also have a ranking system that reacts to changes in our game.
I also intend (when I get some time) to get some historical stuff to Sav, ie England v Jersey past results and averages, player county records etc this way the All England site can become online resource where players can look up their past results as well as current news.

Nigel,
Millhouse has kindly offered to help correlate the rankings as well. It would be good to have him on board in your last year. I think perhaps we should have some urgent discussions on policies as you and he are ranking AEBBA officers and I am the webmaster. I haven't yet heard from Dave Alder.
The adopted ranking sytem post BBQ could then be made public.
I would remind everyone that they are unofficial at present.
Re the site, the registration has come through and I am waiting for the DNS to propagate, which will take about 48 hours (hosting site to become known to servers).

Excellent so far fellas - definitely moving in the right direction - and quickly. You're definitely making the right noises.
If I could offer help I would - but all my records are at a lower level and of no use to you whatsover. Perhaps if someone was missing a recent BBQ, just shout - I have them all from number 55 onwards.

Have heard from Dave Alder, who is on board with the project and has ideas he wants to see on the site as well.
Forgot to post the BBQ's Nige, will do so tomorrow.

Well done guys. It is a shame that you have to go down this road, however.

Well done guys. It is a shame that you have to go down this road, however. True, but at least its got me and the new AEBBA exec to be proactive with the AEBBA site. So some good will come of it. To all in general the AEBBA site is now www.aebba.org. When you first get the home menu page up, press refresh (F5 in IE) to make sure you have the latest version of the menu. It will change as the site develops. Those of you with friends / team members who used to get the BBQ but are not on the internet, make sure you circulate info to them. Once the site is fully developed we can try to ascertain the need for hard copy of the stats. The old site is now redundant and I have removed all except the entry forms that I know some have linked to and a couple of links to the new site. Please let me know if you do not see the top menu bar, but just "Site Map". You may need to enable Java, Sav

First lot of stats are on the new site.
Open rankings after Oxford and GP points.
Thanks to Nige, who says he's having trouble with the ladies cos he doesn't understand how they work, so he's going to have to look them up.
I said I don't understand how they work either (what man does??) but I certainly like looking them up (and down) ;D

How are people getting on with the new site???
Its the first time I have used a Java menu system, any problems??? Do you see the menu bar across the top of the page or just 'Site Map'??
What else do you want to see on the site?? We paln to put full Open results (if supplied to us)
Some feedback (good or bad) would be appreciated.

Wahey, back to full rankings. :)
Guess I'll have to enter more competitions than Jersey if I want to climb above 166th.
The site (like the revamped D&D site) looks smart and is easy to use, good work.

Site appears OK, with Site Map only (no menu visible) also as I travelled round the site I had problem returning to Site Map from All Time Winners list with 'Page cannot be found message' (repeated about 4 times the same)
Using Firefox with latest Java installed and scripts enabled for Aebba.org also Colors/Images/Flash enabled for good luck :D
Update: have just re-entered site following latest 'Page not found' instead of using 'page back' and the menu has now appeared but the drop down menus are trying to work but not properly (all bunched up):o clicking on home page of menu works fine and site map log has gone 8-)

Everything seems to work (since I permanently enabled aebba.org in scripts) except the menus, which work, but still cannot read drop down menus.
also think there is typo in Links as ; Chris Saville (Competition Tables and Electric Clocks) shouldn't that be Electric Shocks ;D ;D ;D

Very good work, Sav (and Nigel).
One minor blip - on the Current Rankings list: one line has gone askew halfway through the cluster of players on joint-180th. Easy to correct, hopefully.
As CraigC says, if people want to see their own names on there - ENTER OPENS !

Cheers,
The site wants a few piccies and interest bits to brighten it up.
Can any of the Firefox users get me a screen capture of the menu problem please.

Cannot get snapper to work as the drop down menus only appear when you hover over them (cannot do both at same time) so maybe something else would work...I don't know.

Glad some people have got to the new rankings lists. I think some Firefox users have had problems, but please bear with Sav as I am sure he can sort it - it is early days at the moment.
I have quite a few stats built up whilst I have been playing which I will pass to Sav in bits and pieces over the next few weeks (and months). People need to tell us what they want to see. I would eventually like to see individual player pages with a summary of what they have won, what their previous rankings are, maybe an embarassing picture of them also. But it is the players site, so let us know what you want to see.
I have all the BBQ's now (apart from issue 22 - anyone?), so I am planning to put together some international and county stats - that will keep me busy for a while!

The site wants a few piccies and interest bits to brighten it up. Sav, Not much more needed, really ! You have sections showing "Older news" and "Roll of Honour". All you really need is the recent stuff like the 2006 World Championships - if possible with some photos of Katie with the trophy, as well as a link to the YouTube mpeg Jersey sent us which showed TV coverage of the recent International. .... And maybe the stats from the 2006 Nationals at Reading which you had before on the old site. Apart from that the link on the first page into this Forum should provide immediate access to all the excitement needed. ;)

Not quite sure why the spacing is different on Firefox, would guess something isn't initialised.
Have made the popup menus deeper for now.
