Inventor of the Triangles version of Bar Billiards. Highest England away aggregate 2013 and 2014, 10 - 0 last 10 England singles legs, seventh reserve 2015. Jersey Qtr final 2014, 2015, 2016 - Guernsey Plate Winner 2014, Main Final 2015, 2017. First person to have won both four pin opens.
I was surprised all 4 pubs no longer hold a table. i'd talked with Phil and Carl (seperately) about 'doing something'. but all 4.....jesus!!!
trying to remain positive, maybe an effort should be made to go to Thorpe Market and Brancaster Staithe and at least "put a marker down".
When you consider that whole leagues that existed as recently as 20 years ago have disappeared, it comes no surprise when non-league tables are 'discontinued'. On my recent trip to Somerset I had high hopes of finding a table in a particular venue, only to find that it had installed a skittle alley, which was attracting a much more thriving trade. With rental charges and maintenance costs a table has to justify its own existence in this day and age.
I'm a firm believer in "leagues" as far as pub revenue goes. But nobody seems to blame the lanlords like I'm prepared to. most of them are lazy b***ers! you won't believe how bad the table is at Brancaster Staithe. I had to run across the pub with a 9 iron and the ball still stopped short of the 10 hole.
I wouldn't mind but i was aiming at the 30!!!!
your skittle alley has what I call "engagement" with the public and screams "do something!!! NOW!!!!". but a bar billiards table needs a brush and a hoover, a little oil, the coin mechanism looking at, a polish, a PROPER polish to get rid of sweaty hands. My experience ias that only half of the landlords get it.
certainly, young managers don't and women don't identify with these contraptions either. a BB table crosses the line into 'mechanical'.
East Anglian Open Winner 2018 Lawrence of Arabia, Jack Hawkins is Gen. Allenby. Col. Harry Brighton: Look, sir, we can't just do nothing. Gen. Allenby: Why not? It's usually best.
And fortunately there are still people who put in the extra mile and believe it or not it does include women.
Indeed, and here's an example:

The table that was there was put in by the man who is the new landlord at the Eight Bells (Bolney) he sold the Cross just a couple of months after installing the table and the new owners threw the table out immediately. :(
When we were looking for a new venue after the Victory, I went in to the Cross to enquire and got a rejection that bordered on rudeness (and I had just bought a glass of wine!) Thankfully most landlords are at least pleasant even if they turn you down, but looking for a new venue is a job best done with company if at all possible.
Take no notice of Taffy, he's a throwback to the caveman era.
A leak from a palace source reveals that there is a bar billiards table here:
