Yesterday I thought I'd take a trip along the coast and try the four Southsea tables on the Google Map.
This is my run down on the day.
Eldon Arms - This was one of my fav pubs when I was in the Mob. Beer was good but the table has issues.
1. It could do with a vacuum cleaner to get rid of all the dust and muck.
2. Only one light over the table working, this meant that the back end was in darkness.
3. The cushions look like the cloth had been pulled to tight in places so the rubber was out of shape in places.
4. No D and no spots for the pegs
5. The table was in a very small area so not much room around to play around 50 holes.
6. The left side of the table near the 30 hole was broken and could be pulled away from the base.
7. It's a Capital Coin Company table so watch your knuckles on the coin slot.
The Guv did say that he was going to give Capital Coin Company a ring to come and sort the table out.
Also he did say that the table does get more looked after when the Uni is not on holiday as it gets a lot of use from the students.
The Kings Road Tavern.
During the week it opens from 6pm in the evenings and is closed Mon, Tue, Wed lunch time so I had to miss this one.
Barley Mow - Beer was good with a range of 6(?) Real Ales.
The table is in a good position and played OK, if a bit sluggish in places. The score board could be in a slightly better place. It would be good to see them get a team together and play in a league. The Landlady told me she is keen on friendly matches, so if anyone wants a game somewhere different let me known and I send you the phone number.
White Horse - Not the sort of pub you would expect a table, and I don't mean that in a bad way. The beer was well kept and had 5(?) hand pumps.
The table was a struggle for me after The Barley Mow (and 4 pints). Quite fast with very little in the way of rolls. The only way I can see of improving it would be to move the score board.
All in all a good but mixed day
