3/4 size table is claimed for this one, ex-Fulflood Arms, Winchester: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BAR-BILLIARDS-TABLE-/271146217091So what is it? Can't see any legs, and I don't reckon there's a slate either. Too big for a 4' x 2' Joe Davis, so it must be a table-top Russian Billiards. £100 tops. This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.Presumably a private offer made.

Norwich League should definitely be alerted to this one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Superb-Bar-Billiards-Table-/281062472615A pub/restaurant in Norwich itself (no clue as to which one) which wanted bar billiards matchplay, but sadly it didn't take off. Either the table or the venue's ambitions need to be rescued ! (NB. Table is not a SAMs but is a Supreme, of modern construction.) Went to a single bid of £695.NB. This has now been re-listed, presumably the original deal fell through: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Superb-Bar-Billiards-Table-/281069570319Bidding has ended on this item. - No opening bid this time.

One of the earlier Supreme tables here, location Preston (Red Rose Leisure) : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BAR-BILLIARDS-TABLE-/281081775465Recently reconditioned (re-baized with Hainsworth match cloth) so can't see them letting it go for less than £600. Went for just £357-60 after 25 bids - bargain ! :D

I was looking on E-bay at the brand new Supreme Tables, as the easiest venue for me to get to is York over an hour away. Are these tables worth the money (£1,150)? There is also a more expensive Mightmast table at £1,500 but its not a brand I have heard of. Any opinions?

You have six and a half grand to spend on a motor and want to impress your friends. Would you go for a well looked after but second-hand BMW or Audi ? Or would you opt for a new one of these ? ;D

Supremes are OK but I think the point Tommo was trying to make is that you can buy an antique table (Jelkes, Sams, Riley) in super condition for that sort of money. Whenever you come to sell it again, it will still be worth what you paid for it, or more. On a Supreme, you will lose half of the value. It depends on the environment it's going into, also. If it's a busy club or bar then the Supreme will be sturdier and more resistant to bad treatment, but if it's for home use or a country pub where it will be more protected then the pleasure of ownership and the looks of an old Jelkes or similar are immeasurable. The Mightmast tables are quite new I believe but they do look suspiciously similar to a Supreme. Tony

Tony Thanks Tony, I want one for my home, and an antique one would be nice and is the preferred option in an ideal world. I also have to weigh up additional costs such dismantling, getting it home (as most likely seller would be based in South) and re-assembling. The seller of the Supremes are local which would make life easier. I agree the Mightmast does look very similar to the Supreme. I guess I will have to weigh up the pro's and cons. Mike :)

Hi Macba, Sorry for the flippant reply earlier, was in a rush earlier and had to go out. The analogy was supposed to demonstrate that the modern tables have pool table properties and are not really aesthetically pleasing to the discerning player.
Yes, what Tony said, really: a Jelkes, a SAMS or a Riley will hold its value, and are what league play takes place on in 99% of cases.
As regards transport, on the Jelkes tables the legs unscrew conveniently from the frame, but (understandably as they are 70 + years old) can loosen inside the thread sockets with mishandling (= dragging across a floor). So if buying one, first make sure it doesn't have ricketey legs. Then, when transporting it, do so with the table on its side and firmly strapped in/secured - to avoid damaging the slate. It should fit comfortably in a Luton van/ Ford Transit/ Minibus.
tommo
PS Any slate-based table is at least a 3-man lift, so take a buddy and make sure you have additional help at each end of the journey.

Early Supreme, electronic timer, location Stoke-on-Trent: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Traditional-Bar-Billiards-Table-good-condition-and-full-working-order-/190849136779Looks like an early version as the legs are more slender than those ugly stocky ones you normally find. But then again there could be a reason for the change in design, so legs should be checked for thread damage. This one does however look as if it's been well looked after. Yellow mushroom is a rarity ! Also check for cloth damage where the D should be as there isn't one ! Stain on the cloth around the object ball spot should brush out, though. Sold to a single bid of £400.

Interesting one here, a custom-made table-top from Sidcup: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Table-top-bar-billiards-table-/161025256032Not exactly a miniature, this one being 5 foot long, but it's only just over 2 ft wide which makes it 'narrow'. Note the long chute to gather the balls - very Heath Robinson ! You can probably play a game on it, and stick it away in a corner afterwards, but it wouldn't be the same as owning a 'proper' table. Went for £103 after 11 bids.Purchaser based in Bristol tired of it already and now selling it on : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Table-top-bar-billiards-table-/190850216066Went for just £67 this time after 3 bids. An expensive lesson learned by vendor, but new buyer has a bargain so long as he doesn't mind a narrow table.
