Nope just spoke.to my brother in the pub and he confirmed my thoughts that a few years back a player recorded a break of over 5'000

It was a good year for our pub the Brewery Tap, with the Adders Taking the team KO cup, Dennis Watts and Chris Cass the doubles KO and with Luke and myself in the final of the singles it meant the guarantee of another trophy.
All of the games and indeed the night were completed in a very friendly atmosphere and everyone appreciated the free and very tasty BBQ provided by the Bay Horse.

It was indeed the team final on Thursday night, the same night as England lost again.
We, the Bay Horse A were playing the Saracens Head who had walked away with the league title. Unlike England we started well and stormed into a three nil lead, The Saracens pulled a couple of games back before we put it beyond their reach and the final score ended up 4-3 to the Bay.
I would write an in depth report but due to the amount of beer consumed during the enjoyable evening I don't remember too much. I think being in the pub at 7pm and not leaving until early hours the next morning took it's toll on me.

Clive you are so right, from left to right. Me, Jason Lawrence, Colin Norledge, Alasdair Carnegie and Jeremy Fry all from the the Bay Horse A opps I cant remember the other persons name, he was the landlord from the pub.
Missing from the picture are Steve Hale and Brendon Hoare who were both working that night so unable to attend.
Jeremy Fry's face is a good one to remember as he's the M.D. of Specflue who sponsor the 4 pin open.
BTW just as the picture was being taken it was a "who the fleck has farted" moment and looking at Colin you would think butter wouldn't melt in his mouth

Some while ago Dave, Taffy and myself were speculating about the existence of a Boxford League, as Dave had turned up an old trophy in his attic. The usual sages of Sudbury were consulted, but memories were too cloudy. It was concluded that the League a) was short-lived, and b) was probably run as a summer league only! How wrong we were ...... as the following clippings from National Newspaper Archives will bear witness (various conclusions to follow): [/div]

(various conclusions to follow): And they are: CONCLUSIONS: 1) LOOKS LIKE THE SUDBURY LEAGUE RAN AS (SPONSORED) ABBEYGATE TRAVEL BAR BILLIARDS LEAGUE 1981 TO 1983; 2) BOXFORD & DIST LEAGUE RAN FROM SUMMER 1983 TO 1984 BEFORE BECOMING THE DCA LEAGUE UNTIL AT LEAST 1987; 3) SMF (SUDBURY MOTOR FACTORS) LEAGUE RAN THROUGHOUT THE 1990's. AND THIS CENTURY OF COURSE SUDBURY LEAGUE IS SPONSORED BY SPECFLUE.
Anyone know what DCA stood for ?

Interesting press extract from 1980........ local (Sussex) coverage of the 1980 National Team Championship: The conundrum which maybe Daveuk1 can help with is .... 1) Which Swan would that be ? 2) Which league were they representative of ?
As to our knowledge Suffolk has always been a 4-Pin county, very brave of them all those years ago to send a team to play in a national finals.
THE ANSWER FROM DAVE IS THAT IT WAS THE SWAN AT CLARE, FORMERLY OF THE SUDBURY LEAGUE - 08/06/22

Dave has provided me with this (archive ) press cutting dated 09/12/1976 showing a league of 18 teams (9 in each division). It shows the Five Bells (Gt Cornard) as the dominant side - and that Jeff Bridges was good, even in those days. Most of the venues are in archive, with only the Sudbury White Horse supporting league play today. The team just beneath them in the table, the Red Cow, had a name change to the Bay Horse.
