Thanks to Graeme and all involved in what we thought was a fantastic weekend. The Merton was a great venue for bar billiards. Congrats to Phil Collins on a great double. Rendition of Against all Odds (well I guess you had to be there)

I'd like to offer my thanks the Graeme and the team for a great weekend at the Merton. Nigel also needs a special mention as the tables were excellent and well maintained by him all weekend. Hope to see you again next year and maybe get a bit further than round 5.

I would like to add my congratulations for a well staged competition once again at the new venue of The Merton Hotel. Thanks to Graeme and all his helpers during the run up to and during the competition. Thanks to the new sponsors Spearpoint and to Nigel for the well turned out tables as usual. Congratulations to Phil on his two wins and commiserations to all the losers especially Paul in the final as I thought he was going all the way when I saw him brush aside some very worthy opponents. The standard of play was incredible given the pressure some players were under and it was a pleasure to watch KT play the table out against Terry Race and beat the target set. So it 'wasn't to be' for Trevor again this year, although we can say he was 'threetimes world champ' as he won the pairs world title during its first year of conception. Trevor made some amends for his loss on the following Tuesday here in Guernsey, running the Ex Service table out in his league game with a stunning 19,490, a score unlikely to be beaten here this season. The Merton Hotel - well there were a few problems with the bars being understaffed and understocked at the busiest times. Can not believe there were no staff in the Sports Bar when the football was on. Jersey Joes was a bit like 'confused.com' at times and the staff did not seem to know what they were cooking or serving let alone what prices to charge. However the breakfasts and meals in the main dining room were spot on and good value for the money. I'm sure I got charged double GST once in Jersey Joes Hopefully they will want us back next year and iron out the staffing problems so it is more profitable for themselves. Karaoke - what can I say about Champs performance ? Wacko must have been turning in his grave. Gave everyone a good laugh so well done Champs. Well done to the Jersey performers also - Sami and Harry the Spider who performed good turns. Any chance of a duet next year ? One last thing - How about giving Fasttrack Phil some more praise for a while Sav/Admin ? with his name on the banner (even for a short time) even though he is not a regular on the forum, as is usually befitting for an Open winner.

You have put some good points there Norman, especially about the last sentence regarding Phil's name being put on the banner, as he thoroughly deserves to have his name highlighted up there at the top.
Hope it wasn't you on the receiving end of Trevor's wrath, incidentally what is the Guernsey League record for the highest break & score in your League??
Keith.

A valid point which we usually do, but we have been rather tied up with the disaster recovery of 14500 deleted posts since Jersey and the banner was only put back to normal last evening. Sav

Sav Any little excuse is better than none, then Chris. ;) Seriously though, Graham, Clive & yourself all did extremely well (with the help from proboards) to get the forum back up and running so quickly after Clive's unfortunate accident. 8-)

Fortunately it was not our team playing at home that week. Thinking about it, Trevor will have the chance to beat this score when he plays us (Layabouts) at home (Ex Service) on 30/3/10. The unlucky fellow who did not get any chalk on his cue was Steve Murphy in his first season. (Hope it will not be his last). :-/ As for the record - I would have to rely on Bob Chapple or Mr Statistics Bob Le Moignan looking this up. Must be close to the record in Guernsey playing from the spot without using the split, in about 16 minutes.

I have modified my last post to include you. :-[ Thanks again. Keith.

Was just trying to put a dab of polish back onto my somewhat tarnished reputation. ;) ;D

Furthermore his image is better in my eyes because of his actions and attitude since the all-to-understandable and unintentional mistake. I think I speak for Sav and myself when I thank you all for your kind words.

As you can see, I've now done with being a muppet and have given my halo a good polish. ;D

Back on topic.............. Karaoke - what can I say about Champs performance ? Wacko must have been turning in his grave. Gave everyone a good laugh so well done Champs. Well done to the Jersey performers also - Sami and Harry the Spider who performed good turns. Any chance of a duet next year ? Sami has the voice of an angel. Her rendition of All That Jazz could win the X Factor. Harry and Jill's Cinderella Rockerfella was as good if not better than the original. Curt Driver gave a powerful rendition of Mustang Sally to show us that he really has soul. And that's without Michael 'Buble' Eouzan ! Cracking karaoke.......it got to 2am in the morning and we didn't want to go home ! Shame about the 'absent friends' - got a feeling that next year we'll be fighting each other off for a go on the microphone. ;) ;D ;D

Hi Looking back at the records Trevor's 19,460 is in fifth place the top four are: 2001-02 - 21,610 by Trevor 2000-01 - 20,870 by Trevor 1999-00 - 20,230 by Trevor 1996-97 - 19,800 by Trevor In most years I was pipped at the post as in last year when Trevor took the highest score by 80 points in the penultimate game of the season when I was on a low scoring table in the final game of the season. Robert and I have a target to aim for this season but with Trevor having the break on the Wayside table a 22k could be possible.
