Is this years competition still at the Merton? and are any hotel deals being negotiated?
The reason I ask so early is that my flights from Plymouth are currently cheap but will go up quite soon, I missed last years event because I was trying to get a good hotel/BB deal and by the time I had one provisionally sorted my flights had doubled in price.... I refuse to be ripped off.
Any information will be very much appreciated. Cheers Bernie

Yes, it will be held at the Merton Hotel again...... 8-) 8-)
Dates are Friday 5th - Sunday 7th November.
A special rate has been negotiated already and I have just confirmed this with reservations at the Merton (01534 724231) as follows:-
Bed & Breakfast for 3 nights - £210.00 per room Half Board for 3 nights - £300.00
These prices are based on 2 people sharing...... I was told that the prices are based on a "per room" basis, rather than "per person".
£35 per person per night for 2 sharing with bed & breakfast looks superb value to me for a hotel with the facilities at the Merton...... :o 8-) ;D ;D
Just have to find a cheap flight now....... ::)two sh

Can we have this verified by someone on the island please, like Millhouse I will be travelling alone and prefer not to share a room. Surely the Merton has some single rooms ??? ::)

I have just received an Email message from the Merton Hotel which says;
"I am afraid we do not have single rooms available on those dates but we could offer you a twin or double room for sole use. We can offer you a standard twin or double room for the price of £70.00 for B&B per night (2 adults sharing)or £55.00 per night for sole occupancy."

Nice one Keith ;D an interesting point though is that if you look at the Mertons website, their price changes on the 6th, so therefore standard double rate should be £70 for the 5th and then £50 for the 6th and 7th making a total of £170 which makes Daves £210 VERY special ??? ??? ::) ;D

Sorry Dave but if you've been overcharged you should be thanking me for pointing it out :P make another phone call to complain mate ;D Haven't booked and had no plans to for a few months..... only phoned the hotel to try to find out the information to help other people on the Forum. Having looked at their website (www.seymourhotels.com) it does look as if it may be possible to save even more (extra 10% discount for 3 nights, 15% for 4 nights) if you pay in full in advance...... but whether that will apply in addition to the Special Online Offers is always open to interpretation....... ::) As I am sure that anybody will see..... the website does also say prices FROM £50.00 per room anyway and hotels often apply the nightly rate that is valid on the day that you arrive for the period of your stay...... not the lower rate that may come into force after you have arrived. But, many thanks for pointing the special offers out.

Just out of interest I also rang the Merton and they also quoted £35 per person per night (sharing) and £55 for sole occupancy.
No extra discounts available at that price.
£15 per person per day for Half board.
Deposit of first night cost. Balance due at checkout.
Website shows fully booked for 5th/6th/7th but that must be because they are holding them, as there are currently plenty of rooms available for us :D
Didn't ask about their stockholding of JD, Bacardi, Coconuts, Bananas etc ;D 8-)

As A Jersey Virgin 8-), I'm just wondering what time the games start on the friday (if I'm right in assuming it does start on the Friday), as I'm coming direct from Italy at about 5pm. Any help would be great, cheers. ;D
I also found return flights for £170 from Gatwick on the No Frills airline. It may seem like it's in the wrong direction from Jersey, but Gatwick for me is only 40 minutes away, whereas Southampton is well over an hour, but it does save the 15 minutes or so on flight time!
Thanks to Sparky for giving me the confidence to barter, as I've been quoted the full £70 a night from friday to monday, I take it I should be pushing for the cheaper price?

Enzo I expect the organisers will announce this years itinerary in due course but this is roughly what you can expect:
Friday. The Pairs only (Doubles) starting about 7.30pm (rounds 1,2 & 3)
Saturday. The official opening and first round of the Singles (& Plate) Competition at 10am which goes through till 6pm (Dinner break 6-8pm ) then at 8.45pm the Pairs Competition is played through to the Final at 10.25pm (finishing about 11.10pm).
Sunday continues with the Singles, Plate & Juniors Comps starting at 10am (with Lunch 12.50-2.45pm) through to the Finals, with presentation at about 10.45pm and usually followed by a bit of partying ;D ;D
I repeat that it may not be exactly the same this year, as they try to refine it each year, but should give you a good idea of what to expect. _____________________________________________________ Enzo Tell the Merton that you are there for the Bar Billiards weekend and they should give you the discounted price for Friday, Saturday & Sunday Nights without hesitation, which is £35 per person sharing (£70 a room for 2) or £55 for sole occupancy per night.
But they will try to charge you full price for extra nights (ie. Thursday) but I'm sure you can persuade them to reduce it, if you need to. Sparky

I`ve booked in at Apollo 5 nights and included flights with BA 8.35 Thursday and home 3.35 Tuesday for £351.00 Band B. did this via Expedia travel, could get half board but would rather just find somewhere to eat without being set to times. That gives mne a double room to myself as well.

Sparky,
Thanks for all the info, very kind of you indeed. Not that I'm a tight b****d, but I do expect to pay what they have advertised plus they say they do discounts for 10+ rooms :-/ even though the rates we are getting are the same us the general public.
RE The itinerary; that's perfect, just needed a rough idea!
Now trying to figure out a way of bringing my 3/4 cue with me without incurring sports equip. charges :o
