Kevin Tunstall ( 3 Times now) beat Jim Millward (3 Times before) in the Final, others can fill in all the details :)
I would encourage everyone to go next year, no matter what your standard, as it is a good experience and a great time can be had in general.
Well done Kevin and, of course, the Channel Islanders for a great event.

Oh Jill, you missed off the semi-finalists of the Pairs! I am deeply hurt!
Bernie and Paul lost to SA and Lemon. milhouse and fazza lost to two blokes from Guernsey!!!!!!
milhouse also lost to the eventual winner of the Plate Mark Turner, IN THE SEMI-FINALS no less.
So, first visit to Jersey, only been playing BB two years and walked away with two semi-final places in three events. Who did better than that?
Yet was robbed of the Merit Award by a local who had been playing in the Junior event for years and only won three matches here as far as I can see.
I would like to hear from the organisers why he was awarded this in preference to the other nominees!!!
It would be interesting!!!

Agree with you on this one Pete, Mark had a great weekend for a debutant. However, my choice would have been Sue Atkins - to reach the last 16 as a lady player is a tremendous achievement.

Agree with the two of you on this one, Sue or Mark would have both been deserved winners, possibly Phil Collins as well :)

Yes, Sue did really well, but you are saying she did well to get to the last 16 almost despite being "a lady player". I do not believe anybody should get this award just for doing well as a "lady".

Well done again Kev. Superb!!
I would have thought Phil's effort was worthy of that award. Only just but I think he squeaked it for me.

What exactly did Phil squeak for you, and, more to the point, did you enjoy it?
and, NO, you are not getting any buckshee RP either.

I do not believe anybody should get this award just for doing well as a "lady". How about then, "Sue got further in the competition than her old man who is an England International" ? Slight sexist undertones, and no offence to Dennis intended, but it works for me. 8-)

Pete it is certainly not meant as sexist, but you only have to look at the history of the competition to compare how the ladies fare to the men and Sue's acheivement of reaching the last 16 is fantastic - I only remember Michelle's last 16 finish a couple of years ago as good a performance as that by a lady in Jersey since I have been going. I have no doubt it is tougher for ladies to learn and compete in what is predominantly a man's game - which makes a lady getting to the last 16 of a World Championship a fantastic acheivement.

I agree wholeheartedly with Nigel's comments, and would add that the counter viewpoint in itself smacks of male chauvinism. ::)
The guys who got into the semi-finals don't really need the extra award, and if they've suddenly burst on the scene that is a sign of more to come in the future.
I'm going to start a separate thread now on memorable performances by ladies in Open competitions.

Nobody is less chauvinistic than me!
I'll have a go at anybody, skirt or not, and that includes kilts, Elsie!!!!

Pete - just four that's all. You've got loads to spare!!!
Phil gave us all a good squeak. I loved it, didn't you?

Just to explain this "four" business, Lorin believes that giving me a hug in Jersey earns him 4 ranking points in the new system.
If that was the case, they would all be doing it, and I simply could not have that!
No, you will have to earn them the normal way..... bend over!!!!!!
Not saying what you would have to do to get somewhere between 68 and 70 ranking points.

You all seem surprised at Phil's ability, I have seen him play pool for long time and he is very good at that. I am not surprised he has picked this game up as he is gifted when its comes to a cue.
Will he overtake KT only time will tell.

Bringing this thread back to life, I would like to ask What happened in the Go-Karting??? was Sav thrashed? or did he decide not to have a Grand Prix because it wouldn't be worth finishing second to anyone other than ME ;D ;D ;D
