Here we go again on our journey of fun and competative matches :o for another season ;D ;D
Eight teams once again, with three changing venues for various reasons; Some changes of personel for a few teams, which should prove interesting. ::) ::) ::)
Mace's crowd have left Ex Service Club and ventured North to La Fontaine Inn, where I am sure they will be well looked after by landlord and landlady Colin and Cindy De Jersey. However it could be a very expensive season for Mace :( with dearer pints and higher taxi fares on top of their regular "fines" for knocking pegs over etc. They join The Giants who remain at the same venue.
That move has enabled the re-jigged Vicky Arms team to stagger 200 yards down the road to The Ex Service Club. Captain Sue Murphy who also serves a mean pint behind the bar will be competing with Clare and Jan from the Rangers to be the top Guernsey woman player this season. Lookout for Clare at the Merton in November - mainly in the bar areas - not on the tables ::)
Layabouts remain at Ex Service and will be drafting in severel mystery guest players as the season develops. :-X :-X
The Jamaica team have finaly had enough of negative vibes from management at that venue, which is a shame as it was a conveniently placed pub close enough to Town and on the way to La Fontaine. They have travelled out West to The Wayside and fittingly re-branded themselves as The Nomads. With Island Champion Robert Chapple in the team, they hope to improve from their surprising lack of points last season, :-[ and should be aiming at first or second place.
Breakaways should be there or there abouts once again and look forward to defending their title. Its going to be a close one again methinks.............. ;D
Rumours that The Rangers and Baulkliners have strengthened their teams should hopefuly see both of them gaining more points this coming season. :-/ :-/

13/10/09 Layabouts 4 Rangers 1 Played at Ex Service Club !
Phil Keutzer 1,260 Colleen Ogier 30 Old faithful Phil was persuaded to turn out for his old team, having retired half a dozen times in his long career. Taking the place of the want away Andy Rundle who has joined the Baulkliners. Phil was a little ring rusty, however the result was never in doubt.
Norman Wilkinson 1,950 Jan Avery 510 Pleanty of banter and distractions during this game, which turned into a training session for Jan, with all present coaching as she took a huge range of interesting shots. I never got the break back - who cares ? With Tel chalking her cue for her, each time she had a shot.
Terry Girard 1,970 Geoff Ogier 3,200 Geoff told us this is the first time he has played for another team other than current Champions Breakaways. Terry obviously drew the short straw, and was unable to match the dancing old master.
Matt Ogier 5790 Scary Clarey 790 Despite loosing a 2K + break Oggy top scored on the night, being the only player to master the table, which needs a little sorting in time for the next home game. Clare said she was saving herself for Jersey ;D ;D Pity her room mate :o :o
Diddy 4350 Kieran Ogier 870 Despite playing in the summer league Kieran has still a long way to go, although he has shown improvement, and will one day cause a few upsets.

Hi Stormin
Do you mean Layabouts 4 Rangers 1
The "new" team Nomands in the new venue (Wayside) on a new table managed a 5-0 over the Ex Service (Sue Murphy's team).
It's Ex Services (ex Vicky Arms) second season and although lossing 5-0 showed great potential with some close games.
Terry Kenny 3,670 v Mick Mason 2,590 Robert Chapple 5,260 v Richard Billienne 500 Bob Chapple 11,910 v Sue Murphy 410 Pete Lowe 2,450 v Steve Murphy 1,380 Bas Warr 4,100 v Derrek Critel 1,270

Fontaine 2 Baulkliners 3 Apparently a very shaky start for Andy Rundle's new teamates. A couple of the games were very close. Trevor did not play in this game

If any UK players attending the World Championships wish to visit Guernsey for GST free pints and accomodation on their way to Jersey, please send me a p.m. There may be a chance to get some experience on a Channel Islands off the spot table in a Guernsey league game, as we are looking for a player to "guest" on Tuesday 3rd November. Home to the other Ex Service Club team.

I would be tempted, Stormin', but we've already bought tickets for our local Nov 5th Bonfire night party and spectacular firework display. 8-) 8-)
Hey-ho, see you in Jersey as per usual, I expect. ;)

20/10/09 Beck to the future night ! Giants 2 Layabouts 3 - played at La Fontaine
Tom Oliver 7210 Terry Girard 830 Terry was drawn against the in-form Tom, and was unlucky with his opening break. Tom took control with some high breaks, Tel only had three visits to the table.
Jon Van Katwyk 1250 John Beck 2060 Layabouts are delighted to welcome back John Beck to Guernsey Bar Billiards ;). After a six year gap, John has returned to Guernsey from Spain and has battled through some serious health problems. In keeping with Layabouts policy of bringing back players who had retired from the game, John proved that the old magic is still there. Having not been near a table let alone a cue for Donkeys years, the former Island player showed some good touches, to win at the first attempt.
Luke Oliver 2690 Matt Ogier 1460 The two cousins met, & the game was marked by Tom - a true family affair ! Matt was not at ease with the break and was off cheaply. This set the pattern for the game, with Luke methodically keeping his scores and not leaving anything on for Matt.
Karl Ogier 760 Paul Dyer 3950 Disappointed with Arsenal letting in the late equalizer, Diddy had his mind set on a win. Things got a little scrappy half way through, however Diddy was a deserved winner.
Bob Le Moignan 1850 Norman Wilkinson 2610 A typical 'on the night' low opening break left me vulnerable and thinking Bob was going to relish some practice for the World Pairs. However I managed to keep my nose in front to secure the win for the team - 3-2 on the night.

3/11/09 Layabouts 5 Ex Service 0 Home derby, Ex Service had the breaks;
Tel Girard 3760 Richard (Skinner) Carre 1810 Much needed win by Tel ;D against Guernsey's 'pony-tailed guy'
Matt Ogier 9340 Steve Murphy 1250 Warming up nicely for Jersey. Oggy failed to reach his predicted 10K ::), however pleased to make up for his dissaponting loss the previous match.
John Beck 2180 S.Wasterny 1250 Rollin' back the years again ;), Becky maintained his 100% record. However his opponent showed some good touches and can only improve if he keeps playing all season.
Stormin 3820 C.Welch 1540 A stupid mistake cost me a lost 2K+ break :-/. My opponent showed some good skills and will cause a few shocks if he keeps up this promising form.
Diddy 5520 Mick Mason 890 Wish I had a camera with me ! A first - Diddy drinking Fanta :o :o :o. Did not seem to affect his game too much although he claimed he would have scored 10K if he had been on the cider ::) ::) ::).

A week of shock results. :o The Rangers secured a rare win against Fontaine. In fact their first league win :o Geoff Ogier maintained his 100% record for them and spurred his team on. Excellent wins for ever improving Jan Avery who thrashed "Little Legs" and "warming up for the weekend" Clare who saw off the challenge of Pete 'Bob the Builder' Goubert. Elsewhere Nomads went down to reigning champions Breakaways 4-1 despite having the opening breaks. Baukliners lost 3-2 to the Giants. Trevor Gallienne won for the Baulkliners, however Guernseys current player-of-the-year Andy Rundle was well beaten by Karl Ogier who made the most of his opening break.

Result 33 of 174: Topic: Guernsey League 2009/10 stormin Re: Guernsey League 2009/10 « Result #33 Yesterday at 12:20am »
10/11/09 Nomads 2 Layabouts 3 - played at Wayside - Layabouts had the breaks. On a night when 60% of players present were still feeling the effects of the weekend in Jersey, I think that the table was the only true winner on the night as it defeated most players !
Bob Chapple 440 Stormin 3110 Pete Lowe 1180 Tel Girard 0 (BP) Terry Kenny 1180 John Beck 2360 Robert Chapple 8390 Matt Ogier 1540 Baz Warr 910 Diddy 7790
Tel G was unlucky black pegging with a chance to win the game. Robert seemed to master the table playing the Sussex split. Diddy - last on, managed to play with his normal cider head on and nearly matched Robert's score. Becky still on form and getting more confident, retained his 100% record beating former teamate and buddy Kane.

24/11/09 Layabouts 4 v Baulkliners 1 played at Rangers Club - equal breaks
John Beck 950 Trevor Gallienne 14880 First loss of the season for Becky :'(. Did not score much in his opener, then sat and watched as an on-form Trevor played the table out. ::)
Tel Girard 1700 Rodney Smith 110 Smithy was looking favourite, however managed to put four breaks down when on over 5K :-[
Matt Ogier 4330 Barry Osbourne 4260 Ozzy came back at Oggy towards end of game. When the bar dropped it was anyone's game. Oggy sank a white in the 200 to win. :D
Paul Dyer 4430 'Judas' Rundle 500 ;) ;) Andy fluffed the opening break and Diddy made no mistake with a punishing win. ;D ;D Having lost only three last season playing for us, Andy has lost three already this season with fifteen matches left to play. :o :o :o
Stormin 4100 Peter Webb 1360 Good job I was taxi driver this week as I was on last :-X. Useful four points against strong opposition. Well done team. ;D

1/12/09 Layabouts v Breakaways John Beck 1590 Gazza Naftel 3950 * Gazza to be reported to GBBA for cruelty to women players and pensioners, surprisingly keeps his unbeaten record. :o :o ::) Mat Ogier 290 Darren Ogier 5500 Mat did not make the most of his chances. Darren to claim the point ::) Paul Dyer 3020 Paul Le Gallez 6120 First defeat for Diddy. No grumbles about this one though. PLG :D killed the game off with a superb 4 K break. One to watch in the Guernsey Open next year based on this performance. A natural ;) ;) Stormin 2970 Champs 9960 :-/ Concentrating on breaking instead on break-dancing tnite Champs took my unbeaten record off me with a cool 8.5k opening break. Did not stand a chance on this high scoring top ::) Tel 2560 Steve Fallaize 3370 Big Steve called in as sub looked short of match practice. However managed to carve out a win, although this could have gone either way. :'( .

8/12/09 Six-a-side Open Knockout Layabouts 5 Rangers 1 played at The Wayside
A night of the subs and supersubs with some old faces making a re-appearance. Pleanty of banter and wind ups all evening.
Julian Webb 540 Coleen Ogier 440 One of the founder members of The Layabouts making a rare appearance looked a little ring rusty, however just managed to overcome a very determined Collen. ;)
Paul Dyer 7170 Clare Anderson 1060 :'( Claiming to be 'a gentleman' touching up at 5K, he would have been more of one if he had done so at 500. ::) ::) ::)
Phil Keutzer 1960 Jan Avery 1160 Making only his second appearance this season, Phil gave Jan the hump before her trip to Egypt. 8-)
Stormin 4930 Ian Merrien 1110 Under no pressure for the win I saw off the challenge of a player who should be playing every week. Just a shame he is so good at bowls. ;D
Mat Ogier 2070 Mick Merrien 2170 We were trying to think when Mick last played, and in the league, and it was probably around the time of decimalisation ! Mick showed some good touches, however with the match result decided Mat did not have to try too hard.
John Beck 3450 Geoff Ogier 1300 this game saw two old adversaries facing each other. Geoff was feeling lucky after his recent share in a local lottery win (see Guernsey Press article) :D. However this was personal, as Becky got his head down and easily outscored Geoff. ;D ;D

15/12/09 Fontaine 0 Layabouts 5
Match started early to help 'Little Legs' celebrate his birthday ;D
Dave Le Maitre lost to Paul Dyer Diddy first on scored over 5K - highest score of night ::) ::) ::)
Little Legs :o lost to Norman No birthday gifts, although I was generous in loosing a 2k+ break.
Jers lost to Becky John ;D ;D played some masterful shots and is clearly enjoying playing, after such a long break out of the game.
Mace lost to Mat Oggy took control early on and never looked liked loosing :-*
Mark (super sub) lost to Tel. :D :D ;) Terry in preparation for his Xmas holiday on a liner, cruised to easy victory, giving us all 5 points.
Evening ended in total confusion as half the expected number went on to tenpin bowling afterwards. :-/ :-/
Breakaways 3 Baulkliners 2 ;) Champs informs me he beat Trevor - nice win. :D Gazza :'( :'( :'( keeps his unbeaten record as he is out injured. Andy Rundle in foreign parts so that goes down as a no win. :o

Yes confirmation that Breakaways beat Baulkliners 3-2
Champ beat Trevor Champ was more than pleased with this result not only gaining revenge from when trevor beat at the Ex Service club, As well as inflicting Trevor first defeat of the season.
Darren Ogier beat Pete Sanders Pete struggled with his opening break and allowed me in early after a solid break i was always in control.
Steve Fallaize lost to Rod Smith Rodney played his normal slow and methodical game. Steve stepping in for the injured Mr Naftel just could not do a thing and lost his first game of the season.
Roy Le Page Lost To Barry Osbourne Another one of those games where the breakaway player could not do a thing. Barry ended up winning this one far too easily.
Paul Le Gallez beat Peter Webb Pete knocked in a near 2k break with ease. Having not seen Paul play before Pete looked confident that this was more than enough to beat the newcomer. However Paul showed he was still condfident from beating Diddy 2 weeks ago. With around 4 mins to go Paul played the time out with a 4 and half thousand break.
I know Rangers lost to 4-1 to the nomads. Predictable Geoff Ogier being the only Rangers victor. Unpredictably though Robert Chapple Struggled against Collen Ogier and needed to pot the last 3 balls to win the game. Does anyone know of the other results from monday and tuesday?

12th January 2010 Baulkliners 1 Layabouts 4 played at West Legion. Away team had the opening breaks.
For the second consecutive evening, Layabouts found fortune in being on the right end of a winning scoreline, :-[ traveling deep into the wilds of Guernsey. ;) ;) ;) Despite the media's attempts to preach doom and gloom with a few minutes worth of light sleet, the match went ahead as planned. ;D
Andy Rundle 190 :'( Terry Girard 8210 ;D Andy's miserable run of form continued with yet another defeat by a former teammate. Terry started off slowly and Andy had a chance early on. However Tel was back to his old self, and cruised to a well deserved victory.
Pete Sanders 780 Mat Ogier 10,550 :o Following his high score the previous evening, Mat went a couple of grand better proving that was no fluke. Back on his very best form at last, Oggy sent a strong message to the Island Selection boys. On this sort of form who could leave him out ?
Pete Webb 2330 Stormin 4910 Despite not banging in the big scores, I still managed to win, although things were not flowing as easily as I had hoped.
Trev Gallienne 640 Paul Dyer 3710 ::) A game that promised so much between two of the best players in the Island turned into a very nervy affair. Dids looked out of sorts when he broke down early, and one would have expected Trev to "fill his boots". :-/ However both players seemed to struggle and made several early mistakes and it looked wide open. Dids put in a 4K which should have put him safe, however missed an awkward centre ball and lost his break. :'( More scrappy play followed however Dids managed to get the break back again, to deny Trev the win.
Barry Osborne 4830 Julian Webb 1690 ??? Coming in as a very late substitute Supersub Julian did not help his cause by trying to empty the bar of cider stocks along with Diddy. ::) ::) ::) On the night we were happy :) for the four points and Ozzy deserved his win to save the brush.

19/1/10 Rangers 0 Layabouts 5 played at Rangers FC. Away team had the opening breaks.
Kieran Ogier lost to John Beck Coleen Ogier lost to Paul Dyer Jan 8-) lost to Mat Oggy Clarebear :P lost to Stormin Geoff Ogier lost to Tel Girard ;D (Top score of the night)
A match played in good spirits with plenty of banter. :D :D :D Venue was colder than the Antarctic to start off with, however Diddy's Guernsey bean jar meal seemed to have after effects - to warm the place up with a warm wind. ::) ::) ::) Nice sarnies provided by the lovely barmaid Katy. :-* Tel drew the short straw again, but played another blinder, inflicting only the second league defeat of the season on the prolific winner Geoff. Sounds like Breakaways dropped a point tnite. so this win puts us level on points with them. here we go again......... Also heard tonight that Husband and Wife Geoff and Coleen will be both be running in the London Marathon for Cancer research so good luck to them both. Look out for the Guernsey donkey on Coleen's teeshirt !

Guernsey Bar Billiards Six-a-side knockout Baulkliners beat Layabouts ::) played at Rangers Club
An interesting selection of heaters 8-) 8-) 8-) helped warm the venue up this evening and the lovely Katy behind the bar was a star that burned bright.
Trevor Gallienne beat Mat Ogier Mat had the opening break, however a nasty whip out into a peg on just 500 was the turning point, and it all went pear-shaped from then on ! Trev banked on 12.500 :o and Mat played the two remaining minutes out.
Rodney Smith beat Norman despite being against the break, I managed to get in front for a while, however Rod came back strong in the last 5 minutes.
Pete Webb beat Tel Girard this one was very close and the only chance we had to make a game of it. :-/ Webby won by about 200.
Andy Rundle :D beat John Beck Andy was keen to rack up his first win of the season against his former team and duly performed the task, without any fireworks.
So as it was 4-0 the last two games were not played. Revenge for the Baulkliners following their two 4-1 defeats in the league. Thanks to Phil and Diddy for Layabouts and Ozzy and P.Sanders from Baulkliners who turned out on a cold night without even getting a game. We left Katy to close the bar early and get home. Good luck to the Baulkliners in the final against Breakaways.

GUERNSEY BAR BILLIARDS SIX-A-SIDE KNOCKOUT SEMI FINAL PLAYED AT THE WEST LEGION. BREAKAWAYS VS NOMADS
STEVE FALLAIZE 4320 ROBERT CHAPPLE 3770
LAST YEARS ISLAND CHAMPION CHAPPLE JNR HAD THE OPENING BREAK BUT FAILED TO SETTLE DOWN AND LET STEVE IN EARLY, STEVE OUR IN FORM RESERVE GOT HIS NOSE IN FRONT BUT BROKE DOWN ALSO TO MAKE THIS MATCH ANYONES GAME, LUCKY FOR US AND AFTER BOTH PLAYERS HAVING MORE THAN ONE BREAK EACH STEVE GOT THE IMPORTANT FIRST POINT.
D OGIER 4480 L BEARDER 1220
DARREN VERY BUSY WITH OTHER STUFF AND EXAMS TURNED UP HAVING NO PRACTICE WENT ON WITH THE OPENING BREAK, DARREN STARTED WELL BUT BROKE DOWN JUST SHORT OF 1500 PTS, LARRY RESERVE ALSO FOR THE NOMADS NEVER REALLY LOOED A THREAT SO DARREN JUST SETTLED IN AND CAME OUT ALWAYS ON TOP.
I CHAMPION 12020 BOB CHAPPLE 540
BOB IN CURRENT FORM UNEXPECTEDLY HAD A BAD EARLY MISS IN THIS GAME WHICH LET ME IN EARLY TO SCORE A STEADY 9K TO THEN TOUCH UP, BOB THEN SCORED A FEW MORE POINTS ONLY TO HAVE SOME MORE BAD LUCK WHICH THEN I PLAYED THE REST OF THE TABLE OUT.
C BONHAM 1200 T KENNY 2980
CHRIS OUR NEW PLAYER ONLY ON HIS THIRD GAME DID HIMSELF PROUD TO SCORE OVER 1K, TO SAY HE HAS NEVER PLAYED THIS WAS GREAT FOR US AT 3-0 UP, KANE WAS NEVER GOING TO LOSE THIS BUT COULD NOT SETTLE TO PULL BACK SOME OF HIS TEAMS AGGREGATE SCORE.
G NAFTEL 1170 B WARR 2440
BREAKAWAYS UNBEATEN PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE THIS SEASON G NAFTEL SUFFERED HIS FIRST LOSS TONIGHT, THIS WAS A VERY TENSE AFFAIR WITH BOTH PLAYERS REALLY HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING ANY OF THE BALLS DOWN, BAZ CAME OUT ON TOP THOUGH TO GIVE HIS TEAM SOME HOPE AT 3-2 DOWN WITH PETE TO PLAY.
P LE GALLEZ 4820 P LOWE1060
WITH THE SCORE BEING 3-2 AND P LE G WITH THE BREAK, AGG SCORE OVER 10+ UP THIS WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM FOR PETE TO WIN THE MATCH FOR HIS TEAM, PAUL ANOTHER NEW PLAYER FOR OUR TEAM REALLY SHOWED CLASS TO GO ON AND WIN THE FRAME FOR A 4-2 WIN AND HE SHOWED GREAT TEAM SPIRT.
UNLUCKY TO THE NOMADS BUT NOW THE BREAKAWAYS ARE LOOKING AHEAD TO A TOUGH FINAL VS THE BAULKLINERS

Interesting game 02/02/10 Layabouts v Breakaways at neutral venue - Wayside Tavern. Watch this space for the result. Its going to be another fight to the finish between last seasons league winners and runners up, with the Nomads also trying to spoil the party this season.

02/02/10 Breakaways 3 v Laybouts 2 played at Wayside. Double breaks.
Champs* 7760 Norman 2300 As Champs won the toss ::) ::) ::) he chose breaks 1, 3 and 5 for his team which proved decisive. Currently on his best form, he managed to open with 5,500 against me, and I was unable to get back into the game after that. Stopped him scoring his 8K though for extra ranking points. ;D
Paul Le Gallez 3040 Oggy* 3330. Mat was behind for most of the game with Paul playing a very canny game. However Mat never gave up and sneaked it at the death to bring it back to 1-1. Very close game. :P
Darren Ogier *4210 Tel Girard 1640 Once again this went with the opening break, Daz playing a steady game and not letting Terry settle at all. Advantage Breakaways. ???
Roy Le Page 460 John Beck* 5490 The two veterans met and it was Becky ;D who showed true class, opening up with over 2K. He seems to flow on this table and scored his highest total of the season. Roy seemed out of sorts and claiming Jet-lag from his recent trip to the Canaries 8-) would rather forget this game. 2- 2 On to the decider.
Gary Naftel * 4170 Paul Dyer 1560. Gazza :'( opened with a nervous looking 1,300 and it looked like Diddy was in with a chance with his break. However, stangely, he finished a hundred short of his opponents opener. This set the pattern for the game. Some scrappy play then followed, however Gary edged in front, and managed to build up a 1.5K lead. With time running out Diddy tried a risky shot to get break back and pegged :o letting Gary back in. So Gazza marches on undefeated ! If it is not fluke and not skill, someone has suggested we call in a priest. It must be Witchcraft. :o :o :o

And the bad news....... 08/02/10 Layabouts 2 ::) Giants 3 played at Ex Service Club
Paul Dyer beat John van Katwyk Diddy timed his come back perfectly after loosing a break of over 2K. Makes up for a wasted trip to watch Arsenal at weekend ;D
Terry Girard lost to Luke Oliver Luke played very confidently and was a deserved winner on the night.
John Beck beat Bob Le Moignan Very scrappy game this, however Becky kept a reasonable break at the end to edge in front.
Stormin lost to Tom Oliver. Tom built up a good score over 3K in his opener, but was off the table with just under half the game to play. Got the break back, and was feeling confident, however a ball rolled off the spot during my break and it was downhill after that. ::)
On to the decider the two brothers were drawn against each other. >:( >:( >:( Mat Ogier lost to Karl Ogier Karl opened up with a very confident 3,800, however got into trouble with a ball close to the peg. An over hit shot resulted in loss of break. Oggy should have stepped in, however did not seem to get to grips with the table, which was like a breeding ground at the bottom. Karl edged in front to secure the win and the 3 points.

Hi Norman
Thanks for keeping us up to date with the weekly results.
Its a real shame that you feel you have to post your personal feelings about a brand new player to the league. He has practiced nearly everyday this season and deserved his great unbeaten run on of 10. If we had posted a message saying how great it was that you lost again last night how would you feel?

Hi Norman Thanks for keeping us up to date with the weekly results. Its a real shame that you feel you have to post your personal feelings about a brand new player to the league. He has practiced nearly everyday this season and deserved his great unbeaten run on of 10. If we had posted a message saying how great it was that you lost again last night how would you feel? I would prefer to call it friendly banter and no different to normal exchanges during a league game, with loads of leg pulling. ;D Myself and others have had similar from your team on many occasions. ::) If he wants to play with the big boys he is going to put up with a lot worse than that. No offence meant by me and none taken I am sure. I have known Gary and his parents for a long time. He has played very well this season. Feel free to post whatever you like about me. If the heat is too hot keep out of the kitchen. :D :D :D

Hi Stormin
That is some back down you must be scared.
It is a little harsh to give someone such a hard time when he isn't even registared to post on the forum. I think there may be an application to join comming very soon though.
If i was you i would get out of the kitchen before he arrives. Bring on our next game i can feel (smell) the tension from here.
