Good luck to all competing over the weekend. Sorry I can't be there but duty and Karaoke calls. Please don't forget that Friday the 4th is Harry Barbet's birthday. Anyone who wants to buy him a drink I'm sure he will appreciate it, especially you Tupps. www.cocktail.uk.com/Cocktail-Recipe/Chocolate-spider.htm

Just to follow this up. What a fantastic weekend!!!! As usual Guernsey welcomed us all and the competition was excellent. I think a big thank you should go to Tom Oliver's son Luke who did a brilliant job and provided a tv to watch all the big games which was excellent. For someone who does not play the game to put all this hard work really is something else. WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!
ALso a big thumbs up for the hotel, we had a lovely room which was clean and very roomy.
Well done to Nige and Richard, Trevor and Tom, john and Martin and Chrissie Newson for winning the ladies break prize.
Thanks again to everyone and definitely see you next year!!!!!!

Just to add a few words of thanks to ALL that made this event possible. A superb three days of Bar Billiards, starting with the Guernsey Masters on the Friday evening, followed by the Guernsey v England international, Guernsey Open Pairs and Guernsey Open Singles.
It is hard to know where to start, to acknowledge and thank all who made this event possible, thank you all for your tireless work and efforts, especially those who gave up precious days off work to help put this event on.
To all the guys who humped the tables around from the pubs and stores to the venue, Diddy, Mat, Champs, Gary, Jers. Darren - please forgive me if I have left anyone out..... Those who helped set them up at the venue. Thanks to all of the G.B.B.A.committee for staging the whole event, especially Tom Oliver, Bob Le Moignan, Darren Ogier, Mat Ogier, Gary Naftel and most importantly Luke Oliver, who does play Chelle, but sacrificed playing in the Open as he was so busy with Admin and recording some of the games. Thanks to the President's wife Sue Oliver for her help on Admin and the Raffle. All results from the Open are now on the Guernsey Bar Billiards website, which is Luke Olivers creation.
Thanks for all the hotel and bar staff, who did get some of the drinks mixed up sometimes.....
Thanks to all the Guernsey players who entered and supported the event. Shame on those who didn't even bother to enter, or turn up to watch their teammates, or to see Guernsey put in their best ever performance in an International v England and to see Trevor Gallienne claim his first ever Guernsey Open title, after loosing so many finals, and to Guernseyman Tom Oliver for being a close runner up, after a good run of results, beating another Guernsey player Paul Dyer in the semis. At one stage Guernsey had five players playing in the main competition and plate semis, which was quite an achievement.
Thanks to all the regulars that turned up from Jersey and England, and it was good to see some new faces, competing for the first time in the Guernsey Open and making their debuts for England. As we are such a small league, it is good to get the opposition, meet new players and to renew old friendships, and long may this continue with all your support.
Special mentions list is too long for this post, although I must say how unlucky Richard Wooton was in dropping a break which would have beaten Trevor, and Dave Ingram who failed in two attempts to sink the 100 to beat Trevor also........ The Ladies put in some good performances also, and it was duly noted that they all were very quick to offer their services to mark and score games without hesitation. Without you all, this tournament would not have been a success, so once again, thanks on behalf of all of us in Guernsey for coming over, I know it isn't cheap, but we hope you all had a good enough time to consider joining us again sometime in the future.
Well done to all the supporters, winners and losers, as without you all, the event would not be possible. I hope you all felt as though you were made welcome and sorry that we did not get the weather right this time. You all deserve a medal.

Thanks for reminding me Stormin.... I had preferred to view it that Trevor had succeeded in getting the 200 hole (at the second attempt) to beat me in a close battle before going on to win the competition! ::) ;D ;D Many congratulations to Trevor on his victory and Tom Oliver who deserved his place in the final, to John Bamsey who won the Plate Final against Martin Smith and to Nigel Senior and Richard Wooton who beat Mark Trafford and Keith Hollis in the Final of the Pairs.... also well done to all of the Guernsey players who performed so well in their home event. 8-) I can only echo many of the comments made by Stormin and thank everybody involved with the organisation and running of the whole weekend, this has to be one of my favorite competitions of the year and I would urge anybody who hasn't been to go next year.... we will certainly be going back again. ;D

I forgot to mention that I particularly enjoyed it when Lady H begun scoring my game in Spanish 8-) 8-) 8-) It made me feel like getting my Castanets out :o :o :o

Well not a lot to add really about the competition as Stormin' and Warrior have covered most of it.
Just to say that Margo and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole Guernsey experience once again (we've attended all five so far). There are some great characters on the "friendly isle" and we always share some great laughs with them. 8-)
Congratulations to all the prize winners - especially to Trevor, a fitting winner for Guernsey at last ! - and a big thank you to all who had a hand in the organisation.
Cheers to Stormin' for the customary travel tips to/from our hotel, this time at the Island's equivalent of Lands End. The weather wasn't kind but we had a splendid view over the bay from the restaurant area.
It is apparent that more people are choosing the Hi-Speed Catamaran as a cheaper alternative to flying, and we saw contingents from Hants, Oxon and West Sussex. Our reward was a very smooth sea crossing both ways, taking exactly three hours. I say this purely to encourage those who may have been put off by rising costs.
Good to meet Nipper and his beautiful bride (on their honeymoon) and we should spare a thought for absent friends (hang in there, Neil, keep fighting.........)

Dear Guernsey players who ran and supported the event
Absolutely fabulous weekend despite the rain :-* :-*
The hotel was as usual brilliant. Food was excellent and very reasonable in the restaurant. Staff were especially great and it was a packed hotel so they had many to deal with.
This was was my last Open for this year as I need a break but it will be my first next year ;D
The organisers did everyone proud, it was smoothly run from start to finish.
I do though want to bring the family out next year so hopefully the hotel may do a deal for a few days for their apartments for 3/4 nights? Who knows?
I agree with Dave it is our favourite Open ;)

Excellent well run weekend, just got home on overnight ferry. Venue great, hotel excellent.
Well done to Trevor on his win and Tom on reaching the final. John on winning the plate and Maertin reaching that final. Started with Win in doubles for Richard and Nigel well done.
Tables fair and interesting challenge as all had their quirks, winners well deserved as had to adapt.

Many thanks to all concerned on a very well run and friendly weekend. All my lot enjoyed themselves tremendously (especially Jon B ;D) and the hotel was a perfect venue with good food, nice rooms and very helpful staff.
The tables were all interesting and I really must practice my power 50s (!) for the ones that won't split!
I had a bye in the first round as I was due to play Neil Higgins - I sincerely wish i had been able to do so and may I wish him all the best with his recovery.
Thanks again to everyone
cheers Tony

Hi All
Thanks for the positive feedback. These sort of comments are really helpful and make the effort worthwhile. We would also like to hear of anything you would like to see added or changed if possible.
We have had 2 requests so far 1. a Plate for the doubles - We will look into the timings of this and see what we can do. 2. The practice table to be set up a bit earlier - The Hotel had requested this not to be set up until the friday. We will though request for this to be done earlier, Or set it up in the main room until it can be moved.
Please feel free to add comments we will not take it negatively and will use these to make the tournament even better.

Congraulations to Trevor on winning this for the 1st time, much deserved after being Runners Up in THREE of the other four Guernsey Opens in 2008, 2009 & 2011.....Brilliant. 8-)
He's in my top 3 of "All Time Great" players but it was a shame to see him play "like a fish out of water" in the only time that he played over here on our tables in the Grand Prix a few years ago!
My top 3 would be 1.KT 2.JM 3.TG
