I know that Ali is a world Champion. But how does Diddy feel about losing to Alison. As she is a bowls not a billiards champion.
And her first ever game
anyway Breakaways lost 3 - 2 to the giants (Giants had the Breaks)
S Fallaize 820 R Le Moignan 3500 G Ogier 2950 K Ogier 5320 I Champion 1320 T Oliver 6010 R Le Page 2430 J Van Katwyk 1310 D Ogier 6270 L Oliver 1390

I don't think so here is the story
T Girard 1410 Ian Merrien 430 N wilkinson 2160 S Bulmer 1860 M Ogier 3660 M Burns 1970 A Rundle 2730 J Holland 690
PAUL DYER 200 Alison Merrien 700
Well done to the 4 Layabout winners But a bigger well done to the Rangers for making the Layabouts sweat a bit in some games.
As only 1 of there players has ever played in the league before.
Oh a big well done to Ali for beating Diddy

Hi Daz - Breakaways are doing well also so perhaps they are joint favourites with Baulkliners and Jamaica who are stronger with Chapple Junior and Pete Lowe in their team this season. It will be a close call and probably the most open title race for years here in Guernsey. If I can keep our team sober we may be in with a chance ??????????

The Ex Service have cancelled tonight's game v layabouts following their 5-0 thrashing last week. Don't think they would miss one player as they are usualy tanked up so much on Guiness by the end of the evening and hardly will be challenging for the league at the end of the season. No mention of this made last week.
I would be interested to hear what rules apply cancelled league matches in other leagues and if the committess or captains re-arrage the matches. Putting reserve players in would attract new faces to the league and our 'beloved' game.

In the leagues I've played in, as a generalisation 'Extenuating circumstances' is the acceptable reason, Stormin', for calling off games in advance. If the opponents are agreeable to the arrangement/ re-arrangement, it then goes before the Committee for their blessing (- or just that of the Fixtures Secretary if that is what's stipulated).
But sometimes games are called off on the same day with the reason "I can't raise a side"; Now, no-one really wants to play against a team of 3 or less, but short notice postponements can be annoying, especially when the venue have already prepared food in advance: It should be 24 hours' minimum notice out of courtesy.
I often wonder how much effort actually has been made by the captain to raise a side - especially when there are nine or ten on the books sometimes !
I'd always stick my reserve(s) in rather than postpone the game, but some teams seem loath to do that, preferring to delay the fixture to when they can put out their best possible side.

11th November 2008; Jamaica 1 Layabouts 4.
Robert Chapple 310 v Norman Wikinson 4,090 Terry Kenny 4,510 v Terry Girard 5,780 Barry Warr 2,570 v Andy Rundle 5.050 Bob Chapple 13,410 v Matt Ogier 190 Peter Lowe 4,920 v Paul Dyer 6,170
The draw seemed to suit The Layabouts, who went into a 3-0 lead. Matt was unfortunate to come up against the "consistently on form " BC who continues to effortlessly bang in scores of over 10,000 on a regular basis, on home and away tables. Good steady wins by Dids, Andy and Tel. Four of us there were still suffering the effects of the Jersey weekend ! Not the drinking, but the landing at Guernsey airport when the small Aurigny trilander almost flipped upon landing and the pilot was a real hero - the way he brought it down in a force 7 crosswind !

After the match a few of us went to The Fontaine to bid farewell to Mark Burns (Scorch) who is transfering shortly to a branch of Specsavers in Nottingham. He has been an enthusiastic player in the past three years or so that he has been playing and hopefuly he will be making more appearances in UK Opens during 2009. I am sure he will be looked after by one and all, if he turns up at any of these matches. GOOD LUCK MARK !!!

Congratulations to Bob Chapple for installing another table at a new venue "The Happy Landings". The landlord Alan Opie likes his pub games and will hopefuly get a team together for next season. Bob and I used to play darts with him XX?? years ago. So if anyone from bar billiards land gets 'fogged in' at Guernsey, it will very useful as the pub is right next door to the Airport.

Played at the neutral venue The West Legion Club LAYABOUTS 3 BREAKAWAYS 2
Darren Ogier 2,650 Paul Dyer 9810 Oge broke off first, however when he could only manage just under 2k He knew that probably not be enough against an in-form Diddy on the high-scoring Legion table. Dids put in two large breaks to see off Darren and inflict upon him his first league loss this season.
Gary Naftel 2,580 Andy Rundle 7,170 Deputizing for the Thailand holidaying (again) Champ, reserve Gary looked a bit rusty, however showed some early form. Andy took three attempts at the break before settling and put in a good total score. 2-0 and things were looking good for Layabouts
Steve Fallaize 0 Norman Wilkinson 3,450 A remarkable game with each player having two breaks only. Big Steve took the opening break and got up to 3,500. however a heavy shot off the back cushion resulted in a white peg and loss of score. The balls came back to the break, as they do in these neutral games and I put in a steady 3,350, which was not enough I thought. Steve then got the break back and proceeded to almost play the table out. Having almost put my cue away when there were only two balls on the table I was as shocked as everyone when Steve missed a straight shot, resulting in a no score and loss of nearly 6K. I sheepishly sank the last two balls and gratefully, but undersevedly took the point 3-0 was a bit flattering by then.
Geoff Ogier 6,720 Terry Girard 2,500 Former Island champion and vetran Geoff took control of this match fairly early on with Tel not getting to grips with the break as well as his opponent. Breakaways at last getting a point and preventing a clean sweep.
Roy Le Page 7,070 Matt Ogier 5,030 Probably the most open game of the evening with both players failing to capitalise on early chances to forge ahead. Eventualy it was Roy who managed to keep Matt off the table putting in a decent break. When Matt got back on he made some in-roads into Roy's total, but was beaten by the clock. 5,030 being quite a high loosing score.
All in all a fair result, although Big Steve may not think so. When Champ is back and we play them again, the game MAY be a little tougher ?!

Interesting game. I opened up with 4,500 on the purple top (now in my garage to be recovered) Trevor replied with 4,900, I got the break back but cocked up on 600.
After a couple of knocks abouut Trevor got back to the table and was on about 70 puting him abount a 100 behind when the bar dropped, there was about 4 balls by the right hand 30 pocket Trevor played a shot and got a double kiss and nothing went down, I went to the table and cleared up to win.

13/1/09 Baulkliners 2 v Layabouts 3 @ West Legion Club
Armed only with our cues and Perrys guide maps, we travelled deep into unchartered countryside for the second week running, not knowing how exactly to find the venue let alone find a way home. Away team had the breaks.
Game 1 - Peter Webb 550 v Terry Girard 2790 Without a win in two matches, Terry really needed this one. He stated off badly, and it looked like he was going to loose. He gradualy amassed a 4,500 score. However an over enthusiastic shot of the cushion to clear two balls in the centre resulted in a black peg and loss of score. Things were looking desparate, however another break of 2,700 and a stick shot when the bar had dropped resulted in a much appreciated win.
Game 2 - Barry Osborne 6040 v Matt Ogier 3360 Matt was keen to make up for his loss on the same table as last week, however once again the balls did not fall kindly for him. The old master (of Darkness) Ozzy began to forge ahead and was in control as the game went into the later stages.
Game 3 - Trevor Gallienne 110 v Andy Rundle 9450 After his loss last week Trevor was keen to make amends, however he never got much of a chance. Guernsey's answer to Jersey's Ice Man, who was also designated taxi driver for the evening, started off with a cool and confident 4, 030. Trevor had a double kiss again followed by a rare peg. Andys other confident breaks of 3,400 & 2,110 secured an excellent and well deserved victory.
Game 4 - John Williams 170 Paul Dyer 12840 Longjohn had drawn the short straw and Diddy was not going to let Andy's score to remain unbeaten. Opening up with a stunning 6000 he let John on to have a few shots, and the went on relaxed, to amass a good total, although could have possibly played the table out if he had wanted to.
Game 5 - Rod Smith 8750 Norman Wilkinson 170 After my Jammy win last week I was looking forward to a better game. But an over-hit one-up proved to be my un-doing and The methodical Docker took advantage by knocking in 6,000 in 11 minutes and ending up with his highest total by far, this season. I should have gone to Specsavers !
Next Week - JUDGEMENT DAY !!!!!!!!!! LAYABOUTS V BREAKAWAYS in the six-a-side team knockout semi final. The return of "Champ" sponsered by Thai Airlines. If you have been affected by this posting please telephone our help line. All calls taken in the strictest confidence.

Rangers 0 v Breakaways 5
Rangers feared the worst as they met their stable mates the Breakaways and the Rangers Club.
With Breakaways having all the breaks the wrting was on the wall.
Janet Avery 540 S Fallaize 2710
Steve struggled with his opening break and let in Janet early. Janet scored steadily but was unable to make any large breaks. When Steve managed to get the break back he got in a 2k break and stuck allowing his opponent to gain some valuable experience on the table.
Robin Everest 630 Darren Ogier 5380
After scoring only 600 on his opening break Darren feared it maybe one of those days. He however got straihght back to the table and after scoring over the 5K mark for his extra point stuck. This allowing the new player a chance to learn some shots. Allowing the new players to be coached during the match. Even by their opposite player.
Game 3
Coleen Ogier 230 Geoff Ogier 2980
As husband and wife set off to play you knew that there was no chance Geoff was in for an easy game. If Geoff had even hinted at scoring big he would of suffered hi wife raff. No more meals cooked or any other treats. Geoff did win comfortably but some good shots from Coleen allowed for a peaceful end to the evening.
Game 4
Clare Anderson 890 Ian Champion 4440
Old childhood sweathearts met again in opposite corners. Ian happy to help Clare when ever she needed it. He was keen though to get over 5k and keep up with team mate darren for that extra point. but with some goo play from Clare a lot of barricking from his own team mates and Ian was unable to break the 5k mark.
game 5 Keiran Ogier 90 Roy le Page 2870
Roy expected to win easily against the newest Ogier off the conveyor belt. Roy did struggle though to mount any large breaks. Kieran was begining to catch Roys score when a rush of blood led to Keiran over hitting a shot to coming back for a black peg losing his score of just over 800. With Roy struggling and only just over the 1200 mark this gave him some breathing space. Roy then closed off with 1500 break to win.

Team Knockout Semi Final
Breakaways 4 Layabouts 2 20/01/09
For some strange reason the Foantaine Table was not running true and caused a number of players some problems.
Game 1 saw Ian Champion 5250 defeat Matt Ogier4370.
Mat had the break but only scores around 500. Champ seeing this as his chance to get a good point against the break. He however failed to hit the ground running at let Matt Back in. Neither player thought could settle. The after 8 minutes. Ian got going and set his score at just over 5,000. With only a couple of minutes remaining Ian banked his score knowing there was no time to recover. Matt did come back and end up with 4,370.
Game 2 Darren Ogier 4230 beat Terry Girard 3110
Darren set away with a 3,000 break and gave Terry a score to chase. With the balls at the top of the table neither player could get the break back. Darren then played a silly shot for behind the 10. He missed and let Terry back in. Terry then put in a 2,000 break himself. With only a minute to go was unlucky to miss. Darren then slowed the game down and cleared the remainder of the balls to give Breakaways a 2 - 0 lead.
G Naftel 2260 P keutzer1220
The 2 reserves met in this one. With Phil having the break the breakaways concern was not to let Phil set about to big a score Incas it came down to aggregate. Phil though had a poor start. Gary was to the table early and set about keeping any score he could. Phil was unable to set about any rhythm and found it hard to get any sort of score. Gary happily played building his score, eventually winning to give the breakaways a 3-0 lead.
Steve Fallaize 1980 Paul Dyer 3760
Looking to win the match early Steve set off with the break. He was though not at his best and could not set any decent break. This gave a great opportunity for the dangerous Paul Dyer to put in a big break. As the first half of the game went Paul was playing well and getting all the luck. With a break of 3,500 he was in control. In the later stage of the Game the luck turned and not matter what Steve hit it went. That was until he got on the break and he kept missing. Paul on the other hand could not increase his score. Steve didn’t quite do enough though and the Layabouts registered their first victory of the night.
G Ogier 3090 N Wilkinson 2270
Geoff started off comfortably and put in a couple of thousand. Norman did start to build some scores. In typical Geoff style and with some fancy footwork edge away. When he reached a comfortable lead he moved the balls around to make it awkward and loaded the table. His victory also secured the Match for the breakaways against their opponents.
R Le Page 900 A Rundle 5370
The match over the final 2 played out a friendly. All those watching expected an exhibition match between these 2 great players. Andy did not his best but his opponent Roy was just not at the Racers. Whether it was due to the late night he was having being the last game ( poor Old Fellow) or the fact Breakaways were in the final and didn’t care.

Pete had the break in this one and must of been relieved to win with a margin of only 350
R Le Moignan 1370 Bob Chapple 7600
Bob continues his good form from the league to beat Mr Le Moignan against the break and give the Jamaica a 2-0 lead.
C Stanford 2460 L Bearder 550
The 2 reserve players met in this one. Colin turns things around for the Giants as he beats Larry from against the break. This cancelling out Bob Chapple victory against the break and Giants first win of the night.
T Oliver 3020 Terry Kenny 1030
Tom evens up the match as he beats one of the Jamaica best players.
L Oliver 1320 R Chapple 3020
The 2 youngster Met here with Mr Chapple Junior winning the game with the break.
K Ogier 3850 B Warr 800

27/1/09 Rangers FC 0 Layabouts 5 (away team had the breaks)
Game played adjacent to a waterlogged pitch and foggy conditions.
MR J.Holland 90 Paul Dyer 3,850 Dids banged in 3,400 break but did not do much after that. Some discrepency on score due to Andy marking and a bet between the two of them !
Ms J.Avery 150 Andy Rundle 6,380 Andy showed no mercy to the first of three female players in Rangers team this evening. As he was driver of the team bus, we were happy to let him revel in the glory.
Mss C.Smith 0 (zero points) Matt Ogier 4,280 Powered by Guinness cool on a rare drinking night, Oggy defeated the second women player in their team.
Msss Claire Anderson 580 Terry Girrard 5,700 Claire has improved her game recently and knows a few shots on her home table. Good effort, however Terry was not going to give this one away.
MR R.Everest 900 N.Wilkinson 2,870 With only the hope of floodlight failure to avoid the whitewash, Rangers situation was looking dire. With the distraction of Hotdogs on the tables, Norman was happy just with the win, not going for big scores (against females of the species) as his teammates were.
Hotdogs and bar service kindly provided by yet another member of the Ogier family. How many more of them are there living in Guernsey ?

Hi Norman
1 sister who you may see doing the bar 1 day. 1 more brother. He lives in the UK though and may never be seen at a Barbilliard night.
the breakaways beat the Giants 4 - 1
very good result even though we did have the breaks
T Oliver 3440 S Fallaize 1160
Very scrappy affair. Steve lead for the first 13 mins. Tom though managed to get the break back and put in a break of around 2500.
J Van Kat Wyk 750 G Ogier 5860
The old master wins again. His dancing legs were on full show during his opening break. Jon didn't get going at all, when Geoff got to the table again the nerves died away the legs twitched less and the victory was ours. L Oliver 1000 R Le Page
Roy never looked in danger of losing this 1. He set in a good 2500 break and never looked back. young mister Oliver never looked comfortable on his home table and Roy eased further ahead.
Breakaways now had the lead and where determined not to lose it.
K Ogier 1690 D Ogier
Darren started off ok but after just 1500 missed and easy shot. This didn't look good as Karl had looked so good during his practice game before we started. Karl managed to get the break back darren, Expecting to sit the rest of the game out darren made himself comfortable, only for Karl to miss on around 500. Darren then realised it was going to be 1 of those game. So tied up the game with a few scoring shots then sticking on some awkward shots.
The score though were close and with the bar down Darren cleared the balls with 600 and to make 3-1
R Le Moignan 170 I Champion 8080
Ian opened up with 3000 and looked at ease on the table. Bob was unable to make any in roads and Ian grew with confidence as settled into a nice rythym and giving the breakaways a good victory
