Hi Guys,
I'm taking my one piece over this year so will need to pack it separately etc. I know that some of you club together to take a whole bunch over and share the cost of the 'sports goods'.
Are any of you doing it this year or would you be interested? I don't care boat or plane as long as it arrives,I'll be going by plane on the Thursday.
I've had some tips on the packaging from the Veterans (drain pipe etc) so I'll be doing it anyway so let me know via PM or on this thread if you are interested.

Drain pipe is good, gets lots of bazooka comments ;D ;D
Don't forget that someone will need to prebook the combined extra package or pay megabucks on upon arrival.
The last time I took my two piece cue with FlyMayBe they converted into a three piece by breaking the butt!, the one and only service they did not charge me for!
I'm flying from London City this year with Blue Island, a bit more expensive but no extra charges so no problem with the cue.

Yes, as I said all the vets have given me the drain pipe/foam tips.. never thought of it as a bazooka.. :P that could be fun :P maybe I should spray it green and stencil AT4-HS on the side, carrying it on my shoulder and see how many people start heading for the exits!
I've head horror stories of things like this, I'd sue them up to the eyeballs if they break my 1 piece, its priceless. Bob hall came up with the excellent idea that I pack my clothes etc into hand luggage and check my cue in to hold (all packaged up).
I'm going with BA so one expects a slightly higher calibre care and service (har har yeah right!!). If they can't take it I'll have to go with one of my old 2 piece ones but my reserve cue is a 3/4 split so it still wouldn't fit and the cue before that I think Boudica threw out! I might as well hit the ball with a lump of 2x4!

Doesn't matter which airline you go with it's the same ServisAir staff who throw your carefully packed luggage and cue with gay abandon. How they managed to snap mine (and others) at the butt was beyond me!!
Make a drainpipe case from drainpipe with a cap glued one end and a screw cap glued the other and pipe insulation inside is the only safe way. All they can do then is lose it or put it on the wrong plane, both of which have been experienced by members of the forum.
Compensation for an irreplaceble cue means nothing and virtually nothing is all you'll get for a lost second hand bit of wood.
Big strong and bold is beautiful!!

Yes my point exactly! No matter how much extra you pay for the brand airlines (even with Executive cards!) it's still the baggage staff who have little to no respect for your property, I don't understand how they break so much stuff, your baggage is safe for 000's of miles and 5 minutes of getting off the plane to the carousel damages it or best case scenario you end up with scuffs all over your case! I would never go for anything less than a hard case these days, mostly just use hand luggage!
You are right though at the end of the day it's just a piece of all wood but you can look at anything in its true form, it's what it is that makes the difference. Not that they care anyway they'll end up claiming that I should have had it insured so always a losing battle as they'd have a valid argument.
It's easy to get paranoid but one can't be naive.. just expect the best and prepare for the worst!

Found out that BA allows cues if packaged up as hold luggage if no other bag is checked in so I'm going to take hand luggage with clothes etc then take the drain pipe with cue in as hold luggage (gulp!) I'm praying to the gods that my cue doesn't get damaged (going overkill with the foam/bubble wrap to make sure!
Therefore I assume everyone is ok for cue transportation but I thought I'd offer anyway as I'm putting my cue in the drainpipe either way so anyone that wants theirs put in with my securely packaged then feel free to get the cue to me by thursday (taking the 11:00 flight to jersey on thursday)
cheers

I meant bubble wrap inside the plastic drain piping? they wouldn't know it was bubble wrap but you're right it's probably not worth it so I'll stick to foam.
Unfortunately I'm not taking a hold case, just hand luggage and it is a one piece anyway so I can't tape it to me hold luggage anyway, besides I fear this way it could get snapped if the cue has another 20kg bag on it andsomeone lifts my bag and the cue is strapped to it.. snappp.

Outbound was ok but coming back, they had busted the end cap (VERY securely taped etc) and I've got a chip on the butt! I will file a complaint but I might as well start holding my breath now.
