All, The moment you have been waiting for has arrived, the draws for the 2011 Individuals and Doubles World championships. Before the draw I would like to reiterate additional rules in conjunction with the standard Jersey Bar Billiards rules. 1. Groups of 4 Games 1-4, the player named first on the card receives the break. It has been worked out that every player receives at least one break. Games 5 & 6, the player named first on the card rolls up, with a white ball, to the left hand white peg, followed by player two rolling up, with a white ball, to the right hand side white peg. The closest too or touching, without knocking the peg over wins the break. In the event of a tie, or indecision by the referees, the order is reversed with player two rolling up to the left hand side peg first. 2. 4 players in a group, therefore scoring problem resolved. The two players that aren’t playing in the active game become the marker/scorer. If a player is unable to score/mark for a valid reason then they have to find a replacement for all of their allocated games. This also needs to be agreed with the remaining players within their group. Normal refereeing/marking to remain after Group games and for entire Plate Competition 3. If a player doesn’t adhere to Rule 2 above, the Tournament Directors have the right to eject them from the competition, irrespective of who is involved. THIS RULE WILL BE ENFORCED. 4. Groups will be run as 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss and in the event of a tie, decided as follows: Points, Average, Highest Score, Head to Head result, Toss of a coin. All of the above and other standard rules shall be on display through the whole of the weekend, therefore no excuses for ‘forgetting’ them. Finally, before the draw is announced. Once the 42 groups have been completed on Saturday evening a live draw shall take place for the main competition Last 64 and for Round 1 of the plate. Due to numbers this means that all 42 groups winners progress, followed by 22 ‘best’ runners up. Again, the best runners up are decided as per the groups. Everyone else is placed into the Plate Competition on the Sunday.
Good luck all.
SINGLES AND DOUBLES ATTACHED - Times to be advised but both Saturday and Sunday start at 9.30am

One question - can three players progress from one group? (In one group 3 players could end up with 2 wins or 6 points) Think Nigel's worried he's got a tough group!! ;D ;D Talikng about Nigels. Is Nigel Misson (J) (group 29) actually Nigel Bisson (J) (group 3)?? Sav

Nigel Misson is famously the player who played Jim Millward and won the toss only to put him in (in a one leg game!) After Jim went off with 10k, he said to Jim that he played well and could do go far in this tournament!

Sean
Great deal of hard work being put in here thank you...
Read all of this.. sadly will forget on the day as over 55... would it be possible for this to be displayed
re Who goes through from groups, how the last 64 are made up and those left go in the plate...
My only concern is that we are not all at the Merton.... so could you include the crucial time on Saturday you will draw games and start times for the Sunday.
Many thanks totally
Chris

Hi Sean. I have a question for you has the new format been sent out to those that don't have access to a computer I had a player yesterday that was unaware that there is a new format this year.
Thanks. Ian.

All,
We have 2, potentially 3 pull outs from the Group stages of the Championships. Does anybody know of an individual who is coming across to Jersey but for some reason missed out their request to enter?
If so, please let me know by P.M. or E-mail and we shall place their name on the list. For those who do contact me, we shall request you to come to admin desk on the Friday evening / Saturday morning.
Thanks Sean

Thank you Sean. This player usually receives entry forms & the Draw by post. I will print off the thread relating to the new format. Sorry I can't make it out there this year but applaud the Jersey Committee for making the bold step & hope you have a very successful Tournament.
Ian.

Excellent Job Sean, looking forward to the new format and await what I am sure will be intersting and hopefully constructive feedback after this years initial try out. Sure all the hard work will be worth it, and now its time surely to let the bar billiards do the talking and, the right elbows to be excercised. Roll on Wednesday week, see all there and good luck.

Hi all,
Attached is the programme for the group stage draw and the doubles draw with timings and tables, together with the basic rules for the group stages.
As you are aware, if you read this thread, there have been several questions which we hopefully have answered but are not necessarily covered in the basic rules within the programme - rest assured a full list of rules shall be printed up and placed next to each table at the weekend to assist you all.
Should you have any more queries please keep them coming as it is nice to get them all sorted now (sorry champs more beer may be required :)
See you all soon
Graeme

Sorry to ask what may appear to be an unnecessary question, but nowhere do the rules state whether, in the group stages, it is "even breaks" or "chase the break". I assume "even breaks" but that may not be correct.
