Sorry Phil, Bhoona is for girls ;D
Clive, I haven't had chance to try the Sainsbury ones, our nearest store is over in England ;) and they wont deliver here, but having tried Morrisons , Tesco & Asda versions they dont compete with a 'proper' curry house version 8-) I used to always have Phall (built up from the girly one, through Madras then Vindaloo and finally suffered Phall (and got to like it) now that I dont eat curry as much as I used to I try all the different ones and my current favourite id our local Annapurna House special, complete with whole boiled egg.
But my curry of choice would have to be the Thai Jungle curry served up at the Dicq shack in Jersey, worth the trip to eat that on its own, you MUST try it if you go back Clive.

Won't be this year, nor next, but maybe the W/Champs 2014 as a swansong. Thanks for the tip, Q, the Dicq shack is quite near to my hotel of choice, the Ambassadeur.

This was tonight's challenge: The Balti for Margo, the Phall for moi. Two onion bhajias apiece and a corinder naan shared. Margo got the plates mixed up, took a taste of the Phall and had to rush to the fridge to swig a bottle of Evian. The rest of the meal was uneventful, apart from my nose running and Margo's lips 'on fire'. Very satisfying.

Just the one bottle of Bavaria to wash it down, Colemanator.
I have a 9pm appointment with a cream doughnut, so it will be cups of tea for the rest of the evening. ;)

Had curry night with work last night tried a madras balti, not bad, but as in great company always a good night. The Pashwari Nan was pretty special though.
A few G and Ts to wash it down.

Absolutely delightful Tikka Masala tonight: There are two versions on offer from Sainsbury's and I find the one by itself (without the rice) has a creamier taste. Hence the separate easy cook rice which takes 10 minutes. Add 2 onion bhajias and Robert's your mother's brother. :D

Madras is still my favourite or Balti but as Mrs G isn't a fan my consumption is much lower than before

Post-consumption note: Very meaty, and good to try lamb for a change. Quite spicy but tommo prefers a sauce that is slightly richer/creamier.

Thanks for the feedback Chris.
The mango chutney is a useful addition to have in the case of a particularly hot one. My nose was running after just two mouthfuls of Vindaloo. Margo had a "weightwatchers" Chicken Tikka and even that was hot. :o
What was Mr Chris's liquid accompaniment ?

Chicken Balti tonight, very nice. As per photo from 31/8/12. Contained some interesting chillies, nose was running AND eyes watering.
An extra Bavaria was found necessary as an antidote, an alcoholic one as we have run out of zero percent.
Yes, Chris, we love Chinese as well. On my way back from football last Saturday I stopped off at the newly refurbished chinky in Gossops Green (its predecessor burned down). We had a glorious set meal for two, with sweet and sour chicken balls, beef and mushrooms, egg fried rice and sweet and sour sauce. Yummy! 8-)

Korma is not my favourite as I don't have a sweet tooth, my dishes are; Dhansak, Jalfrezi, Vindaloo, Madras, Balti, Korai and my fav at present Garlic, all with Lamb Tikka, I always have a Nan, which could be, garlic, chilli 8-) or Keema, I rarely have rice, and I have the occasional side dish, at the moment I lean towards a chick pea and cheese one called Mottor Panir. Korma is for girls ;) 8-) ;D

Like the Colemanator, I have ventured into making my own, a long time ago as a FAIL - but that's another story - but more recently I had a go at turning a bland Birds Eye ready made one (£1 in Sainsburys) into a feast.
The advantage with the Birds Eye is that there is a generous helping of meat, the disadvantage being it is lacking in the authentic flavour of an Indian.
So it was a simple case of adding a generous sprinkling of each of the following (which Pataks sell in miniature kit form): ginger, garlic, black pepper, garam masala, coriander, tumeric. Plus the juice of a lemon.
Add a side dish of Bombay Potatos - job done ! :P :P

For the last few weeks Sainsburys have been offering the 'Indian Meal for two for a fiver' promotion (= two main meals and one side dish). So last night it was a Chicken Balti for tommo, King Prawn Makhani for Margo, and shared Bombay Potatos. Previous two weeks the same with slightly different combination of a Tikka Masala or Chicken Madras as the main. And these a £1-50 a bottle provide a good accompaniment: Attachments:
