Bridge 3 Laughing Fish 2
Kevin Hall 1,390 - 790* Ron Sheridan Kevin Stoner 500* - 3,980 Dave Ingram Alan Brackenridge 3,200 - 2,950* Tony Jenner Marcus Chipman 1,980* - 1,340 Colleen Park Brian Muggeridge 2,420 - 4,320* Bill Kerr
The usual mixture of competitive games played in the right spirit with plenty of friendly banter.... with the Bridge falling for our "cunning plan" to prevent them finishing 5th at the half-way stage of the competition by "letting them beat us".... ::) ;D ;D ;D
A lovely spaghetti bolognese to finish a very enjoyable evening. 8-)

A second consecutive home win for the Cock Inn (4th consecutive if you include Mid-Sussex) lifts them up the League Cup positions.... they clearly know their own table well and it's great to see that their sense of humour and priorities for enjoying the game are as good as their recent results....! ;D ;D Poor table 3 Brewers 2 Close games but more importantly a good night with the Brewers lots of banter and played in the spirit it should be Here is the latest table.... No Grumpy Kippers here Gandalf.... just a few Laughing Fish! ;D ;D ;D Hi all you grumpy old BB Fans complaining about the Cock Inn table, why not pop over to the Anchor in Hastings, that'll make your eyes water.... ;D ;D ;D I'm supprised that with all these years of experience no one can learn and remember how to play each of the various " interesting tops" (dont say this near a buxom barmaid ;)) in the county...I never swear about an awkward top... Lying again ::) Strangely, unlike some, not all of us have been playing since Methuselah was a boy.... :P I'm just starting my 7th season in the game and am very much still learning to play and trying to improve.... Yes, I will be the first to say that I like a "nice" table that is high scoring and that rewards good shots, but I am equally happy trying to work a table out and will always play a table as I find it. :D As I stated earlier.... A second consecutive home win for the Cock Inn (4th consecutive if you include Mid-Sussex) lifts them up the League Cup positions.... they clearly know their own table well and it's great to see that their sense of humour and priorities for enjoying the game are as good as their recent results....! ;D ;D I'm delighted that the Cock have started to get some good results lately and wish them every success for the rest of the season. 8-)

Greetings from the Cock.
As a new team with the average player having 2 years experience of the game We have taken on board the points made by BBW who we all have great respect for. We will have the table reset in the new year after we have played a few more grumpy old mens teams. However it is not hard to see why new players and teamsare not atracted to the game with the attitude of some of the more senior players. In the mean time we welcome all teams (grumpy or not) for a good night out.
Fear the table or except the challange

Hi guys, Firstly I will unreservedly apologise if my comments about the table at the Cock Inn have caused any offence or upset the team that are based there.... it was certainly not meant in that way. :-[ As I said on another thread... I have no problem with a Home team setting up a table to either suit the individual playing styles of their players.... or to take into consideration the "natural quirks" of their own table.... there is one table I can think of (in Brighton) that HAS to be set "uphill" for anybody to be able to get the break on the table.... :o So, if the Cock Inn team like the table as it is.... then please leave it as it is. ;) Personally, I am a great believer that if you play on a good table, your game will improve.... but that is just my own personal opinion based on my own experiences in the game. ::) When I first started playing again 7 years ago (after a 25 year gap, having played 2 years in Brighton as a youngster), I joined the team at the White Horse in Ditchling. I'm sure that many Mid-Sussex players will remember what the table there was like in those days.... quirky break and more rolls than a bakery. A score of more than 3k was more than enough to win a game and a 1k break was a rarity. :o I practiced on the table there regularly and started to win matches at home.... but every time I played an away game (on better tables) I was on the wrong end of "thrashings" with my opponents knocking in 2k breaks and finishing up with huge scores of 5k.... well they seemed huge to me at the time and, as my game was based around the table at the White Horse, I simply couldn't play the same shots that my opponents did as they didn't work on the White Horse table.... :'( However, filled with enthusiasm for my new "hobby" I went out and practiced at other Mid-Sussex venues and also watched the "good players" when they were playing games and then tried to learn the shots that they played. Fortunately, having been a reasonable snooker player once upon a time, I have a reasonably good eye for angles and managed to learn fairly quickly and my game improved a bit by the end of the season. :D A new table arrived at the White Horse the following season and suddenly we had a table that was much better than the old one.... the break was good, it didn't have as many rolls as the old one and the cushions didn't kick at strange angles.... :o Suddenly, my scores started to get bigger.... I remember my first 5k break there and then managed a 10k score in practice and my game improved as I learned more shots which meant that I was no longer so disheartened if my opponents started with a 2k break.... I started to believe that I could do that as well. ;D I moved to the Hurst Club the following season and my game continued to improve thanks to playing and practicing with "better" players on the very nice table there, was picked to play for the Mid-Sussex Inter League team and hit my first 10k break in a match. 8-) I started to enter the "Opens".... wow, that was an eye-opening experience with players knocking in 20k+ in matches.... :o .... but I continued to watch and learn, as I still do today. ;) By now, most of you are probably wondering what this has to do with my comments about the table at the Cock Inn..... ::) ....it is simply to show that my "enthusiasm" for the game sometimes runs away with me as I often forget that not everybody plays this fantastic game for the same reasons that I do.... which is to improve my game. :-[ However, I know that a lot of people get as much (or even more) enjoyment by simply having an evening out with their friends and having fun playing a game regardless of whether they win or lose.... and without having players of all standards in the game, the Leagues would not exist and the game would die off completely. :'( I certainly do not want that to happen and would love to see more players taking the game up and improving their game.... my comments about the Cock Inn table were meant to be "constructive" not "critical" and were based on my own experiences in the past and my personal hopes to see players improve and playing on good tables in the future. 8-) The Cock Inn is a great venue for the game and our team have always enjoyed both the hospitality and company of the team there during our matches.... my apologies if my comments have caused any offence that was not intended. :'(

Can only echo Dave's comment above. My own comments were meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Apologies if they have caused offence. I too, like Dave, can get carried away by my enthusiasm, and having been on a quite a good run recently, found Sunday night (across more than one table) to be highly frustrating. Sorry if my reactions have caused any offence, they weren't meant to!

This discussion shows that although I personally think the forum to be a great medium it can lead to offence with comments taken out of context. Playing with both Dave and Henry I can assure no offense was meant and they are both great for the game with their enthusiasm, constructive ideas, forthright views and this can lead to upsetting some people. Neither woukd do this intentionally, I have played for a couple of years now!!! and must say one of the things that attracts me is the enjoyment and lack of trouble we get playing this game.

Well said TJ, and I'm sure that myself and the rest of the Staff have just seen this as good honest debate, made in a light-hearted manner, with no need for intervention on our part.
