Makes it standard width! Photo is thus missleading. Sav Yeah ! I've never heard of a "Narrow Riley" or B & W - nor a narrow Jelkes for that matter. Only Narrow SAMs or Padmores or other derivatives etc.

Thanks Till,
Didn't have much to go on at the time, only one rather unhelpful photo from the back end. ::)
Vendor has since added more clues and replaced the original photo with a couple of decent ones.
Cloth badly faded and suspect moisture damage. Wood looks in good condition, though. 8-)

Unlikely it's a B&W as its narrow Sams config. Now if you want strange look here. Atlas badge but never seen one like it, narrow config again so possible French derivative? Sav

Unlikely it's a B&W as its narrow Sams config. Vendor has now added the following: an Ormco speciality made by burroughes and watts for Orme and sons, 7' by 3'Dunno where the extra foot in length comes from, but 3' makes it the 'right' width. :-/

Now if you want strange look here. Atlas badge but never seen one like it, narrow config again so possible French derivative? Sav Auction ended, no bids were made.Graces Guide on British Industrial History gives the following for Atlas: "Atlas Manufacturing Co of Woodford, London, E18. T. A.: "Atlas Co, Woodford". Telephone: Woodford 189. London Office: 194 Bishopsgate, EC. (1922) Ditto Address: Telephone: Buckhurst 0189. Cables: "Atlas Co, Woodford Green". (1929) of Stanley Road, Woodford. Telephone: Buckhurst 0061. Cables: "Engineer, London". (1947) 1922 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Tennis Rackets, Cricket Bats, Footballs, Hockey Sticks, etc. Self-righting Sailing Boats, Soft Toys, Teddy Bears, Golliwogs. (Stand No. H.30) [1] 1929 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of Sports Goods for Tennis, Badminton, Racquets, Cricket, Hockey, Football, Basket Ball, etc., etc. (Stand No. AB.18) [2] 1947 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of Tennis Raquets, Tennis Frames, Squash Raquets, Squash Frames, Badminton Raquets, Badminton Frames, Cricket Bats, Hockey Sticks, Miniature Billiards Tables, full size and miniature Billiards and snooker Balls, Atlas Stringing Machine. (Olympia, 1st Floor, Stand No. F.1815)" I reckon from the condition of the wood it's likely to have been made around 1947 as a bespoke item. Atlas were of course later absorbed by the much larger mass producer of tables SAMs of Hoddington.

Riley, vendor based in Derby: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180805768148Cosmetic appearance looks good, nice wood and cloth, but when you read on further, not so good........ "There is a crack down one of the legs where the bolts fix through but it does not alter the rigidity of the table, i think its just where the grain has separated slightly." Suggests some excessive manhandling! And yes, there does appear to be a dirty great crack in that slate ! Went for £332 after 7 bids.

Riley table from somerset, being sold by one of our forum members, Javars: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160731413345There is a separate thread going under 'table maintenance' where Javars has demonstrated the various stages of his refurbishment. "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."

It's a shame that I haven't got room for it myself because it looks very nice indeed, Steve (Javars) has done a great job in restoring the table to it's former glory! 8-) I know someone who has asked me to look out for a decent BB table for a landlord who wants one in his pub in Oxfordshire, so, I will let them know. I would be more than happy to give a run down on costs to get this table to where it is now if you're interested. Also comes with a Riley Brass Spirit Level and a "stick" that's used to move the score from the playing end :-)

It certainly looks beautiful - nice one! cheers Tony

It's devilishly hard after being used to our tired pub table which has sunken pocket liners and baubley cloth. Also much harder with the mushrooms in the same place as the AEBBA tables. I've added a picture of the stick (don't know what else to call it) finishing has highlighted the lack of space I have available to play it :-(

At long last - one for Q www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220958105604Falmouth area. Riley table with everything there, authentic backboard-scoreboard, sound slate according to vendor and working timer. And Javars has put 'before' and 'after' pictures of his Riley, which shows just what can be done in no more than a week. I reckon this one will go for around the £300 mark. Went for £400 after 13 bids. A happy ending, and I reckon this one too will soon be restored to its former glory !

Riley from Spalding, Lincs: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290700527983A few minuses here could detract from its potential sale value of c.£400: - No timer (gaping hole covered by a piece of laminate !)
- Legs cracked at the top
- Some markers missing from the scoreboard
Other than that it seems a good, honest table ! Went for £325-99 after 23 bids. Reckon someone bagged a bargain there.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and following ebay. Would it possible to locate and fit timer to this table ? Additional photos show underside / slate in all black finish, is this original? Should I be put off by the splits in the legs? Any thoughts on the cost to put everything right? Grateful for your advice

Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forum, I gather you are from my neck of the woods! did you use the Charity when Dave Billings was the landlord? His mother-in law Joyce Keen?? was a strong supporter of our league.
Re the Riley, they are not the best made of tables, can be a bit rickety but are quite playable.
You need to check whether all the pocket cups are present, in some of the shots the right hand twenty cup is missing. That's not a good sign if the cups are loose.
Re the timer, you are most unlikely to find a mechanical clock now. If you do you will be paying nearly as much as for the table. One or two firms may have them. I would guess that the bar is also missing which gives you another problem in getting hold of pivot hinges. A cheap digital timer is an option and simply collect the balls as they drop. An electronic clock that I have fitted to tables is a possibility but the bits cost about £100.
Riley slates are less likely to be cracked that Jelkes or Sams, should not be a problem there.
The leg is gluable and should be OK as you are not going to be dragging the table around. Make sure the table back is up against a wall to take pressure off it.
New set of balls needed as well.
Sav

Hi Chris, Thanks for the welcome. My wife was originally from Woodnesborough, maiden name was Lazenby, her father Peter was a regular at the Charity. Anne & Pete were the landlords when I played on the table. I know live in Charing. I like the oak finish and simple look of the Riley, however I heed your concerns about the timer and pocket.

Hi Radman, tommo here, and welcome to the Forum from me too.
Neither Chris or I have put any real caveats on this table and it doesn't sound as if the vendor is expecting a fortune for it (unlike the other one from Wales on this thread).
Bide your time with the bidding to avoid pushing the price up. Historically, most of the bidding activity tends to happen in the last five minutes. Good luck in your quest to land it ! 8-)
