Hi Joiner,
Looking back over this thread which shows the Riley selling and buying (5 pages of it !) quite a few have changed hands for around the £300 - £350 mark.
A Riley in average condition is worth around £400 - £450. I reckon you could land this one in its state of disrepair for a couple of hundred. Hopefully the slate and legs are sound and it will turn out to have a working timer.
As ones restored to absolutely pristine condition have been known to fetch up to £1,000, there could be a good profit in this one for you !
Rgds, tommo

Thanks Tommo
Will have to see how it goes. Are the timers vastly different from the Brevette ones, I have a couple of spares, that I could cannibalise.
The description says the slate looks perfect.
A good clean up, polish, new cushions, and recover will work wonders, simples

The timer with the round plunger looks typical of early Rileys. It would be best to retain an original feature such as that so long as it is still functional: part of the charm.
You may find that it takes old sixpences, the first table I ever played on had "easydrop" pockets (with four bars to stop the balls spinning round the holes) and took threepenny bits !
The Rileys of Accrington signature is also a good feature, and a careful paint touch-up could reap dividends.

Quite a bit of interest in this one (12 bids) Will give it a miss if it gets silly, I'm a bit concerned that the timer handle is stuck out.

Was that you, Joiner ? It finished up bordering on 'silly money' but 29 bids from 12 separate bidders shows that quite a few people saw its potential.

No Tommo I missed the end anyway as I was driving up to London for the Arsenal game. But had an inkling it might go for "silly" money, as you suggested I would have gone to £200 ish. There seem to be quite a few good Riley's with all the transfers intact going for around £4-500 so not much margin in this one.

Just when I was thinking, we haven't seen a Riley for ages, this one comes up from Fingers Phil in Reading: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-complete-and-ready-play-/201096605875Ex-pub in Farnborough. Looks in excellent, original condition and very clean. Authentic Rileys scoreboard/backboard. Has 'easy-drop' pockets (four bars round each pocket which make the balls drop immediately). Hover your mouse over the photos and you'll see what I mean. Went for £770 after 3 bids.

Caveat emptor on this 'Riley' from Southampton: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Riley-Bar-Billiards-Table-6-ft-/331231467088Looks more like a table top hoisted on legs to me.... - No bar mechanism or place for a handle
- Has been kept in a garage, cushions have probably hardened, and there are lumps out of the cloth.
- The Riley label is of a modern (Pool table) variety. So suggestive of customization to enable private use only.
Went for £212 after 2 bids.

Immaculate Riley here from my home patch, Crawley: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bar-Billiard-Table-/251594003143I've no idea who the vendor (Raymond) might be. Seems to work on an electronic push-button timer which takes old (large) 10 pence coins, so probably privately owned for a number of years. Went for £461-30 after 10 bids.

A weird one here from Swansea: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/sams-bar-billiard-table-/261541107533Vendor says it's a SAMS, I reckon it's more like a Riley. Hole numbering is for a narrow table, but it looks standard width to me. Not sure if it has a clock/timing mechanism. If there is one, it's push-button operated. May well be worth a punt. but my advice is to establish its source/history before buying. Bidding ended, 23 bids were made, the highest £245, but reserve not met. Re-listed 31/7/14: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/sams-bar-billiard-table-/261548070830?Went for £320 after 7 bids.

Very attractive authentic Riley from Liphook, Hants: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bar-billiards-table-/321477005540Timer 'not working' but these are very durable and usually repairable by someone who knows what they're doing ! Cop the position of the mushrooms - vendor appears to have been playing yet another strange variation of our game ! Went for just £355 after 6 bids: Bargain !
