Poor colour match between the top and the bottom, quess someones varnished the top, also pink lippy cups. On the bonus side there are no repair bars across the slate where a table operator has sold off a table with a dodgy stitched slate.

Wonder what it's doing up in Derby ? :o Some of them do play quite well, but only after someone like Sparky has given them an exceedingly large amount of TLC. Also the really popular tables are set by the home teams to have a long bar (19 minutes) so they still get the scores. :-/

Bog standard Sams from the look of it, not in bad nick either. Worth a sniff around on my patch! Sav

This one from Notts seems to be in a sad state: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251006363526Wood looks a bit warped, probably due to being outside for a while exposed to the elements. Leg adjusters are missing. Table balanced on two planks of wood. Front right hand leg has damage - check for splits. Damaged timer by own admission. Cushions are missing. Looks like a job for a professional restorer, these problems not being purely cosmetic. As a result the equity in the table is unlikely to match the Buy-it-Now asking figure. This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available Looks like someone put a decent offer in near to the asking price of £450. :-/

Looks like a SAMs of the 'correct' width being sold from Market Rasen (Lincs): www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160787551801Wood looks immaculate, not sure what the marks are on the baize, but it's surprising what a quick spray of BCE Table Sports Cloth Cleaner can do! ;) Went for £846 after 25 bids

Sturdy SAMS from North Yorkshire: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150791878413Self-confessed problems are not too consequential: The crack in the slate can be got round by fitting a 'brace'. And I'm sure an invisible mend could be made to the corner with the help of some wood glue. But the cloth looks 'moth-eaten' and there seem to be white deposits all over, suggestive of an accident with a milk float ! :o :o :o Either that, or it's been used as a decorating table, which upon reflection seems the more likely. ::) Auction closed, No bids - no takers @ £350. This one's back, re-listed, starting bid now £300: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150815982294Auction closed, No bids - no takers @ £300.

SAMS 'Ordinaire' from N.W Kent/outskirts of London. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110880977228Quality item, looks as good as the day it was made. High asking price (£700 to open) but justified in view of the condition. Went for £920 after 5 bids. (A duel between just 2 bidders, the original one prevailing)

Very nice SAMs here from Alcester, Warwicks: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180908153998No bad points to speak of........apart from starting bid having been set too high: would have been better to start at £500 with a buy-it-now of £750 or £800. As matters stand, if it goes at all I reckon it will be to a single bid of £700 right at the end. :-/ [edit - looking back, vendor has already tried to sell this one twice before, under the same circumstances!]

Well, unfortunately that practice isn't illegal - but on eBay it would be.
Having hooked you they want to see the depth of your interest.
The table might well be worth that at top whack, and if you want to avoid telling them to get stuffed you could diplomatically suggest to them that they advertise it on eBay, where it will go for a fair price for both seller and buyer.
A happy ending to this one, Radman eventually made them an offer they couldn't refuse and landed it. Needed some work but a sound table and plays well.

Think you are mistaken kind sir, looks a classic and nice standard Sams to me. Certainly a standard backboard and I do not think the front four holes are narrow Sams diamond shaped. Sav

Sav I didn't even bother to check as it was Sudbury ! :-[ Makes it a good one then for our members to go after, and I will transfer threads accordingly. Good news too as it makes it likely to be a privately-owned one rather than yet another pub losing its table. 8-) 2 hours left on the Billard Russe. :D ;)

SAMS from Cambridge: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200802539794#ht_500wt_1288Not quite as good as described, as 'a little chalk dust' looks more like the grime of years of playing. And why do people play minus a D ? They cost next to nothing to make. With the damage to the D area, a re-cloth would be necessary to bring it up to scratch, but once done you would have a very nice table, well worth the Buy-it-Now price of £550. Gone already ! Someone snapped it up at the 'Buy-it-Now' of £550.

Reconditioned SAMs from East Yorks. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300755032698Expect a high reserve on this one, as vendor spent £435 on getting it up to scratch. Doesn't leave much equity unfortunately for him. A good looker, but will get £700 for it if he's lucky. :-/ This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.(Nobody willing to make the opening bid of £500.)
