An update on the Hope, Carshalton (the only feasible narrow table within easy reach)..... Pub is on short hours and table will be covered up whilst the building is being expanded (swallowing up half the carpark). Work is expected to last for three months. On the way to visiting the wife's sister at Rose Hill, Sutton tonight, thought we'd call in on the Hope for me to sneak a quick practice on a narrow table. The best laid plans... Pub is like a tardis, looks small from the outside but large foor space. There is now a stage and band equipment where the billiards used to be, and when we enquired as to the whereabouts of the table we were informed by the barman that it was "outside in the Marquee and unavailable at present". The pub still has a nice atmosphere and was fairly busy, always good to see: Now owned by the community, we were offered a choice of ciders, varying from a 3.8 medium sweet Somerset to a mind-numbing scumpy. About 20 handpumps which one might expect from a Camra Pub of the Year. The food smelled good as well.
POSTSCRIPT - IRONICALLY, LOCKDOWN CAME IN A WEEK LATER !

Some Surrey (non-Redhill League) activity: 1.Please re-instate The Star, 17 Church Street, Godalming GU7 1EL: Has a newish-looking Supreme with a red cloth. 2.The Red Lion, Godalming (GU7 1HF) has now been re-named The Fox and Finch. 3. a map anomaly: Holmbury Farm (RH5 6NB) is showing on the map, and is very unlikely to have bar billiards. However, within the last 10 years there has been a table at: KINGS HEAD ALE & KITCHEN, PITLAND ST, HOLMBURY ST MARY, DORKING RH5 6NP (A possible mix-up on postcodes ?) The pub is currently being re-furbished, but perhaps a simple one-for-one change could happen in the meantime. 4. Please delete The Jolly Farmer, Horne RH9 8JR. According to WhatPub, "the pub has been reported as having closed permanently following difficult trading conditions following lockdown."

Looked in on the Cricketers, Ockley recently........ pub has finally re-opened after the lockdown, but no sign of the b/b table.
Postscript - this was bought by the next pub up the road (INN ON THE GREEN) as a second table.

Went on a little explore today, can confirm that The Nightingale in Sutton still has a supreme next to the bar, although it certainly looks like it could do with a little TLC! However "The Hope" in Carshalton no longer has a table and, despite it being a lovely looking pub, the bitter on offer was tragic. Reference the report on our last visit (11/3/2020), I agree that the Hope should now come off our list/map as the table (if it still exists in the marquee) is not readily available to play. Wife and I plan to visit her sister in Sutton this side of Christmas and will pop in and enquire what happened to it on the way there - or back. This is a pity, as Michael says it's an attractive pub (but shame about the beer - CAMRA rate it highly !). And on one bank holiday a few years ago the landlord chucked us a handful of tokens and we played the (narrow) table all afternoon.
