I was due to play DC this Tuesday but I take it the comp sec must have scratched Dave as he was the first named player being responible for arranging the match. I have not claimed the tie!!

......but on the Website it also says (quote) "Matches not played by this date will be replaced with a bye."
So on that basis it looks like Vernon has a straight run to the Final. :P ;D

It also states on the website that the 1st Named players are responsible for arranging the match. There is no getting away from the fact that it also states on the website "Matches not played by this date will be replaced with a bye." With a set night given, all the players had to agree on was a venue. If DC had been deliberately evasive, then Jimmy would be entitled to claim it. But Jim hasn't claimed it, so unfair as it may seem, if the organisers are going to apply the letter of the law, neither player goes through. Ridiculous for a semi-final. >:( I think this needs looking at at the AGM. :-/

Because it was due to be played on a set night, only needed a phone call to choose a venue, and as Jim said, neither player apparently conceded or claimed the match. And they're in the same team.
The Rules don't state the right of the 'away player' to go through if there's no contact made. If they did, the away player could sit tight, hoping no contact was made and then claim the match. The competition states that if a match doesn't get, played it will be replaced by a Bye in the next round. Personally I think that's harsh, but it's what it says.
The Redhill Singles is supposed to be the prime competition, the winner qualifying for the AEBBA singles in Reading, rather than the 'Surrey Champion' - as the Redhill Singles is 'Open' and has more entries. So if I was DC I'd be angry that a) I was denied a chance to play in the Semi-Final, and b) that nothing was said.
It maybe of course that DC phoned up the Comp Secretary and conceded, saying 'put Jimmy through'. Knowing DC, that's probably what happened.
It seems strange to fix a set night but let the players choose the venue: usually it's the other way round, the venue is announced and the players left to agree on the date.
Well, you did ask !

There was no set date for them to play, it was to be played before the 7th May. There has been plenty of time given for the game to be played, at least a month, AND they are team mates.
I don`t believe that Dave would give Jim the game without telling him first, and as Jim says he hasn`t claimed it.
Maybe they could play their game either Monday night, or early Tuesday night. Another option would be to talk to Caroline, NOT DAVE

Ah now I understand, when Jim said "I was due to play DC this Tuesday" he wasn't referring to a fixed night, but to an arrangement with Dave for next Tuesday.
Agree, best to check with Caroline if can still go ahead...
