Hello Im in the process of restoring a Riley Table. I'd love to keep it but dont have the room (Damn you Barretts !) I currently play for fun at the Rose & Crown in Cannington Somerset. I need to buy a couple of items that include a timer top cover with the coin guide and a set of pegs/mushrooms, altough Im undecided which. We currently play with 4 at the local (black usual place, pair of reds directly behind the 50s and another red infront of the 100) I would be interested to know how old the table is. It has C1003 stamped on it in various places. Cheers for now Steve Attachments:

Hi Steve and welcome to the Forum. There are others on here better qualified than I to answer you but some spares etc. can be bought from Masters at www.mastersgames.com/cat/pub/bar-billiards.htm or Mercury Leisure at www.mercuryleisure.co.uk/barbilliards#spares but the chances of finding a coin box cover are slim. It shouldn't be too difficult to make one or get one made somewhere. I've put your local (the Rose & Crown, Cannington) on our map of bar billiards tables in the UK - you can reach this via the AEBBA link on the header above. Have a look sometimeand perhaps you can tell us if some of the other tables in the area are still in situ? cheers Tony

Thanks Tony Have now ordered the mushrooms. One other question, what do people do about the edge of the leather/vinyl on the playing surface as I assuming it needs to be fitted over the cloth. Steve

One other question, what do people do about the edge of the leather/vinyl on the playing surface as I assuming it needs to be fitted over the cloth. Steve Hi Steve, I expect our great leader (Sav) will soon be in to answer that question. But regarding your earlier one about the age of the table, I reckon it would have been manufactured in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Here's an example of what you should aspire to in your refurbishment: www.barbilliardtable.co.uk/ (Picture 12 of 15) This is the website of Hubble Sports, based in Maidstone, who specialise in refurbishments. You might find it more economically viable to auction your table as/is, as a firm such as this will always be willing to snap it up in the interests of making a quick buck for (for them) relatively little effort.

Too late ! Already work in progress. Luckily enough the wife's not too tense about the slate sitting on tressles in the conservatory !

Looking at that site and seeing the Richard Branson picture, I wonder of that table went up in smoke with the rest of Branson's 'Great House' on Neckar Island, sad if it did. Re Clock top - little chance unless you make it, easy enough apart from the coin chute. It's only needed if you plan on the table being capable of charging for play and then you have the added complication of adapting the clock to take a modern coin. Re the leatherette. You have to have it on a league Jelkes or Sams as the slate ends where the green ends. That's not the case normally on a Riley where the slate covers the entire playing surface. I would not put the leatherette on unless you envisage heavy use for the table. If you do add the leatherette it's a pull it tight at the sides and glue the leading edge, but big chance of making a mess. Sav

Thanks Sav. I'm thinking of leaving it as free play although the timer/bar works perfectly. I take on board what youre saying about the leatherette. Do you think not having it would make it any less desirable to a buyer ?
