Charity League Handcross Z v Greyhound (c/f. note also on the Greyhound page) Greyhound team all played like demons on unusually benign Handcross top. Steward had given it a good brush and iron, and it seemed to run a generous 18 minutes as well. Q having now returned from Portugal will now want to get down there quick as he'll never get a better chance of a 20k. Barry Timson in the last game played out the last 8 minutes to overcome an earlier reversal against Trevor Rees, but Barry's face was a picture : Blondie's Atomic - the full 8 minute version - was being played on MTV on the big screen and Barry's break coincided with it exactly. He daren't break his concentration and didn't even get a glimpse as he ruefully admitted afterwards.

20k by me unlikely to even happen : too used to practising one-up, split, one-up split, 15k maybe but only on a good day. Saw KT do it once at a Northants open (I was scoring) - both balls were not dropping cleanly enough on the break, so he switched to one-up split only, and played out the entire clock for 15k exactly.

Well, the 20k was nearly done last Sunday, and by KT himself ! See separate report on Sussex Interleague Round of Games No 7.
The Handcross table continues to play superbly, last night The Hurstpierpoint SC had Kevin Hall scoring 7k and Roy Wells an impressive 9k on it. Despite this Handcross 'Z' still snuck the result and remain unbeaten in the "main" League.

Oh, and this time Barry was struggling in the last game until "Do You Think I'm Sexy" started playing on the Video Screen.

Yes, judging by Barry's stance, I would guess that he always likes to be on top.

Well, they ought to, as it's their own venue - the Brewers, I believe ? Unless that is they've found out that you secretly own a share in it. ;D (topical joke)

Well done to q and his team. Such a fragmented season, you had to suffer more than one match postponement - yet you came from nowhere to snatch the lower division title from worthy runners-up the Watermill A (who I understand turned up to see fair play). :P Another plaque for the wall behind the Handcross table to match last season's no doubt. St Francis were gutted to lose 1-4 to us, Graham Daniels (7.5k opening break) didn't give Shaun a chance but Mick Joplin made a brilliant comeback to win the fifth frame. Apparently they're now relegated (for only the second time in 25 years unbroken service) unless Hurst lost 0-5 (unlikely).

Just seen the Mid Sussex cup draws and an all-Handcross Lower Division singles final could be on the cards. Or an all-Victory final if Charlady and Gordon Brett can overcome Q and IanG respectively.

Handcross Z 3 Hurstpierpoint SC 2
The new season kicked off and it was a nervous start by the reigning champs.
Lorraine Hall took the first for the visitors (5040) but then Alan Downs (7280) and Barry Timson (4830) made it 2-1 to Handcross. It was left to birthday boy John Turner to secure the match win.
In a hard-fought fifth frame Mick Holmwood staged a brave comeback and actually had two goes at the last 100 shot, but it was Kevin Hall who potted it to win 3100-3010.
