Aah.... on my list St Francis have become Hurst ???
So to answer Tommo's question we should have: Hurst v. Watermill Handcross v. Brewers (top of the table clash) Victory v. St Francis Greyhound v. Windmill Kleiners v. White Horse Plough v. Z's (another top of the table clash)
I hope!!!!!

I agree Q your list and notes seem right as both Handcross teams need to win 5-0 to top their groups, with the 'Z's having the advantage of playing away with breaks. But the odds must favour a Droopy Plough final ;D ;D ;D

Some people will do anything to put their post count up. ::) Seriously, thank you Q for the info, and if you want to get rid of your own duplicate posts you have merely to press the delete button alongside them. (Or maybe it's against your religion ;) ) I agree Q your list and notes seem right as both Handcross teams need to win 5-0 to top their groups, with the 'Z's having the advantage of playing away with breaks. But the odds must favour a Droopy Plough final ;D ;D ;D Your predictions may well turn out to be true, Sparky, but don't forget there's a semi-final stage in between. So 3 points tomorrow will be quite adequate to suit our purpose. ;)

How about this then ?
Handcross Z continued their backlash resultant from the loss of the Premiership crown after all those years, following last week's defeat of newly-crowned champs Greyhound with a 4-1 defeat of runners-up Plough on their own table.
The Zeds were determined they wouldn't suffer the same fate as Clayton & Keymer last week and turned in a fine all-round performance, Keith Potter being the only Plough player to really click, with an excellent break of 6410 in the fourth game.
Johnny Haigh gave excellent support to John Turner in the first doubles, matching a 2700 break which J.T. had earlier lost when going out of position.
Plough 1, Handcross 'Z' 4
Keith Potter 3320, tommo 4140 Steve Whyte 3010, Barry Timson 5980 Mark Webber/Geoff Parsons 2220, John Turner/John Haigh 3150 Steve Whyte/Keith Potter 7390, Barry Timson/MrMike007 2610 Des Gasson 3000, MrMike007 3240
..........and as usual, the food at the plough was excellent, especially the cheese toasties with spicy pickle. 8-)
So this now puts the cat amongst the pigeons: Plough and the Zeds have the identical record of P5, W4, Pts 16. White Horse could match the Points with a 5-0 away defeat of Clayton & Keymer (unlikely) but would only have won 3 matches, so looks like they are out. But who topped the group and who is runner-up will be determined by a count up of aggregate score.
Finishing second would probably lead to a semi-final date with the Brewers, so better book that waiting van ready to despatch the Laird of the clan Jeffrey and all his cronies back into the wilds of Wivelsfield afterwards. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Aye aye me bucko's
The Droops reign supreme again with a 5-0 whitewash of the mighty Handcross Social Club. White van man just about got them all in and has whisked them away to various unknown locations.
J Lear (470) 2550 Andy 'the' Farmer Wright (470) 3130 I Giffen (1470) 3340 The Jock (1470) 3840 Chris Kirkham/I Giffen (1470) 2370 The Jock/Noddy Humphreys (1470) 8380 D Skinner/B Lawrence (0) 2110 Adam 'master' Bateup/Alan 'midget' Humphreys (2790) 4580 M Skinner (2330) 3480 Alan 'midget' Humphreys (2790) 3860
Good matches all round this evening, with us virtually home and dry pre match start and the SC needing to scalp us 5-0. Close run game in the first wi the Farmer and Leary, Andy stealing it at the last. Myself and young Mr Giffen again a close run thing, me scoring only 700 opening break Ian headed to the table and promtly scored nowt, so I even more promtly took advantage of Ians dubious opening form. Doubles was much better and a little one sided to be fair, I lead off with 3800 break and finished it when it returned to my go with a 2500. Both Darrall and Bernie both struggled in the next doubles, with Adam and Al just managing to keep ahead, with an excellent finish from young master Bateup. (200 shot with the butt end of his cue and got it!!) Al and Marion kept the tension alive all through the last match with little Al plinking in 340 at the last knockings to steal it.
ps.
Much credit to the lads who took the defeat in very good spirits, a great night all in all. Special mention to auld baldy lawrence for his excellent finish to the 'friendly' doubles match going several steps further then master Bateup by potting red (i think) into 200 off the chalk with the butt end off his cue whilst looking at me, and he got it great stuff.
pps Klieners 2 white horse 3 (shame)!!!!!!!
ppps Tommo ya pillock we don't play out of wivelsfield!!!!!!!!
Love ya all
Who we got in the semi then?

ppps Tommo ya pillock we don't play out of wivelsfield!!!!!!!! Ya right, my Scottish friend, Wivelsfield Common isn't nearly sufficiently remote for the post-match joyride. How's about the top of Ditchling Beacon as an alternative ? ;D ;D Well played by the way, though I feel sorry for our H/X compatriots. Looks like St Francis have grabbed the other semi-final place - if they managed to take four off the Victory.

Oy you forgot that we also have a fat farmer, a mighty midget, our very own noddy and a sheriff. Not of course forgetting the dark and mysterious entity known only as 'THE WHITE VAN MAN'!!!!!! An impressive array. But I think you'll find that the Zeds' lineup trumps yours, as ours features an Acid Bath Murderer ! web.ukonline.co.uk/ruth.buddell/haigh.htm

Unfortunate maybe, but that's what the rules say, and they're quite explicit on the point. It goes something like "the winners of Pool 1 will play the runners-up of Pool 2 on the winners of Pool 2's table, and the winners of Pool 2 will play the runners-up of Pool 1 on the winners of Pool 1's table".

Well, I'd say your team have done alright so far in the competition, played 5 won 5 and points 21, winning group by a clear 7 point margin.
Come the night you'll have the more generous handicaps, so that should even out any 'advantage'.
Besides, I don't hear anyone else complaining. ;)

Hey thanks Ian, graciously accepting the defeat. We will do our very best to ensure that we do the handcross double!!!!! Gonna be tough though, plough table?
Singles looks interesting, but both should pose little resistance to the machine that is become the mighty Sir Jock o the Strap!!!!!!!

I want to complain to, but frankly can't be arsed, good players will adapt and play any table. Should be a good match and failing that a bloody good laugh!!!!!! Bring on the acid bath murderer. Well thanks for that Jock, great sportsman that you are. I have often thought that more care should be taken by committees in cup competitions to avoid someone playing on the same table two rounds running, but have been around for so many years in different leagues for so many years when it's happened not to give it a second thought. But you can't change the rules of a competition half way though the competition. If you could, can I replay all my matches of the last 30 years when I think I've had a rough deal, please ? Having said that, I think Womble will get quite a bit of backing if she does go ahead and make that proposal for an amendment: The wording invented by Roy, though convenient to the organiser, as it stands is too inflexible. Perhaps something like "the semi-final venues will be decided at the discretion of the organising committee from those left remaining in the competition." I echo your sentiment of "Hope it's a good match and a bloody good laugh". Both sides will be trying to beat the crap out of each other on the table with the poor captains having to juggle players, breaks, handicaps and who plays who. And at the same time trying not to lose sight of the fact that it's supposed to be a bit of fun and an opportunity to raise some money for charity. ;)

Yeah mate
Not that worried I played really well on it the other night! Rule change or wording changes don't really care one way or another, if thats the way it is then thats the way it indeed is young grasshopper. Although I think a little discretionary common sense should apply!
looking forward to the match mate, will be a fun filled night, with lots and I mean lots o large sherries!!!!! Just to pave the way, and be aware THE WHITE VAN MAN shall be waiting!!!!!!
sorry mate i was referring to my singles match wi bb reaper hand cross is his tuesday home table is it not?

Just to pave the way, and be aware THE WHITE VAN MAN shall be waiting!!!!!! Thats as mebbe, but I should warn you also, Once the victims were dead, Haigh claims that he drank a cup of the victims' blood. He then pushed the body into a 45 gallon drum. Then he put on a rubber apron, gloves, wellies, and a gas mask ............also waiting will be a cup; a drum; a rubber apron; rubber gloves; wellies and a gas mask. ;D The gas mask may be dual purpose (in case of an over-abundance of sherries on the night ;)) and a large vet's thermometer might be found to be in order too. :o

Refer you to Sparky's reply on the Cup Competitions thread: Can confirm that the Reaper hasn't been near the Handcross top since well before Christmas, and instead has been covering himself with glory in the Redhill League. :o
