The Under 30's will start at 10am. Please could all players be there 9.30 latest so we can do the draw for the groups. It would also be nice if a few people could turn up to help with the scoring as playing this in groups, to give everyone as many games as possible means we could be a bit short on scorers There will be food available on this day I am really looking forward to witnessing this exciting new competition and will be turning up as a volunteer scorer. Good luck to all taking part, and hope you have a great day ! 8-) tommo

This was the lineup of young Sussex talent, taken before the start of the event:
Should have taken one also of the magnificent new trophy arranged by Dave Ingram, unfortunately by the time the thought crossed my mind it was time to make a dash for my bus...sorry, Dave ! :(

Should have taken one also of the magnificent new trophy donated by Dave Ingram, unfortunately by the time the thought crossed my mind it was time to make a dash for my bus...sorry, Dave ! :( The Trophy certainly was lovely.... but was very kindly donated by Charlie Cooper (not myself) in memory of Gina Sherratt who was always a great supporter of young players. 8-) Congratulations to Mike Daw from Hastings who was the first winner of the new Sussex Under 30's Competition, beating Chris Turner (Eastbourne) in the Final.... with Henry Brooks beating Martin Cole in the Plate Final. ;) Many thanks to Jean and Alan for all of their hard work running the day so successfully. 8-)

Dave does however deserve some credit - as does Jean in a big way - of nurturing the germ of an idea and bringing about this competition which I hope will run for many years. The semifinalists are also worthy of a mention.....from memory these were: Cup: Kev Hall and Chris Haggar Plate: Bob Hall and Lorenzo HickmanPerhaps we can also have a go at putting names to the faces in the lineup...... :-/

Well done to Mike who from what I saw and heard played a solid few games. Tables were a mixed bag today, having played on a few in both this comp and the masters - some beautiful, some completely awful.
Many thanks to Jean and Alan for all their hard work on the desk.
Feedback asked for: A very smoothly run day that fitted seemlessly with the masters. Would definately support its continuation for as long as possible.

Thanks, Warrior, for putting names to the faces. 8-) Yes, young Daniel hot-footed it away at the vital moment !
Feel free to use the photo on the website should you so wish.

Well done to all whom took part, Charlie has been forwarded photos from the day, another fitting thing and also at Charlies request was the venerable Mr Tupper presenting the trophies.
Charlie passes his (along with mine) thanks to Jean and Alan for running the day, and he did indeed pop in to see what was happening. Good to see two players from the East of the county play the final, and also to see two very young members playing, one I believe 12 years old ( Daniel) and Joe Oakley 14 yeras old, never know if we have the pubs to play in the game may out live some of us.
Just sorry Gina could not see this happen as she would have loved it, pity those in the final did not ever get to meet this wonderful person, but hey did her proud.

Congrats to Mike on his win, played very consistently all day. I managed to do the complete opposite! It was a shame that 2 players dropped out last minute as this caused some very unwelcome byes and meant 2 groups had to work hard to scrape into the plate whereas players in poorer form in other groups got through due to the bye! Then again if this were a knock-out we wouldn't know any different!
Just to mirror what others have said, it was lovely playing for a magnificent trophy in memory of Gina which was supplied and engraved by myself, donated by Charlie and the legwork was done by TJ.
TJ is right in saying it is a shame she was not there and would have welcomed the new faces with open arms!

Thank you to everyone for the positive comments. It was certainly an unexpected outcome for everyone but one I will enjoy for a long time. There are some very good players in this competition that I'm sure will be back next year better than ever. Also i'd like to thank everyone who made it happen. I think most people who took part enjoyed the day and hope the competition carries on for a long time.

Just browsing through information on young players of the game, and the 1st Sussex Under 30s was certainly a milestone in encouraging the same. Unfortunately the photo taken of the pre-match lineup has disappeared from this thread (as hosted by TinyPics), so I will reproduce it here:

No-one else is playing, Rog, so I'll quote BB Warrior's earlier post on this thread which provides the answer: Quote:
