I thought I would just let you know how good it is being a milkman at night!
I left the depot at 12.15am in my milk float and was followed by a car doing 10mph close behind me for about a mile and a half until he disappeared just before my first call. I thought nothing more about it until 5min’s later when a car pulled up along the side of the float as I was delivering and as I rushed back a white bloke was leaning out of the passenger side window trying to lift a crate (20 pints) of milk back into the car. He succeeded in getting the milk but as they drove away I decided (stupidly) to throw two bottles at the car smashing them on the back window & light. I then expected them to get out of the car but they drove away with the car lights off so that I couldn’t see the registration number. >:(
(A similar black car was later stopped by the police close by but no milk was found in the car!)
Also last night I found an ambulance on an emergency call blocking a “No Through Road” so I had to leave the float where it was at the bottom of the hill and walk three or four hundred yards with a crate of milk to reach the calls in that road..pant!!...gasp!!...groan!!...faint!! :(
I also, nearly ran over “Mr Prickly” who was running across the road with his head down. He was that big that I thought it was a fast “Giant Tortoise” so I was surprised to see it was only a hedgehog! :o
All this but it still didn’t take the smile off of my face that I have at the moment, since Sunday. ;D

There is a milkman round our way, he delivers at about 6 o clock in the evening, in a transit van. I haven't seen a milk float for years.
