Highlights Seeing Bobhall's face when I drew him with the break, and then he drew himself against the walkover, then caught him in the friendly. Peter's comeback after double hip replacement, winning last six in a row. Lowlight. That's easy, but least said soonest mended. TSO

Here's a definitive account of my season, which is full of highs and lows: Have allocated star rating on a scale of 0-5 for each event, and will average it out for the whole season at the end.
June 2008 Watney Mann Cup (guest player for Brewers Arms): Won both legs v Swan B with 5k scores- but team lost 3-7 overall. 3 stars. July 2008 Limes Triples. Runners-up, along with the superb-on-the-day Sally Mortimer and youngster Connor McKee. 5 stars. July 2008 Surrey County Singles. Won four frames of the six played but insufficient to qualify for the semi-finals. 3 stars. July 2008 Kent Classic. Played well in first round, then beaten comprehensively by Alan Brackenridge who worked the left-hand 50-hole: usually my forte! 2 stars. May'08-Aug'08 Sussex Team Captains Cup (first time this held for a few years). Losing Finalist over 3 legs to Kev Hall. 5 stars. Aug 2008 Bucks Open. Lost to Dave Jones (Sus) and won one Plate game before being well beaten by Tony Hearne -all on difficult tops. 1 star. Sep 2008 County championships at Reading. Part of the Surrey A team which had high hopes but performed badly on the day. 0 stars. Oct ’08 – Apr ’09 Redhill League. Team finished half-way up in a mediocre season. Played the home table well in 2nd half, but had missed several games up to Christmas. 2 stars. Oct ’08 – Apr ’09 SCBBA Home/Away Interleague. Took until March to win a game ! As with Redhill League, stood down as unfit to play in weeks leading up to Christmas, played 3 and lost 3. But finished season in style with three good winning scores. Team finished third. 4 stars. Nov ’08 World Championships @ Jersey. Last 32 place, narrowly missing out on glory in a close match with Chris Reeves. 3 stars. Jan 2009 Sussex Singles & Doubles One-Dayers. Entered Doubles only with H. Lost in Main to eventual runners-up in close game, and in Plate to eventual Plate winners. 1 star Jan 2009 Redhill One-Day Mixed Pairs. Partnered Lady H again and this time we topped our Group - but promptly lost our quarter-final. 3 stars. Jan 2009 Redhill Team Invitation. Guested for Mid Sussex. The team fired on all cylinders,I won 5/6 and we were runners-up to Brighton. 5 stars. Jan – Feb ’09 Redhill Team Cups. Lost in first round of Bill Burwood Cup (to own A team), and 2nd Round of the Presidents Cup (to Flying Scud A). 1 star. Mar 2009 Sussex One-Day Interleague. Played for Redhill: Won 3/8 and we avoided relegation from top division ! 2 stars. Sep ’08 + Apr ’09 Mid Sussex Charity League. Entry was optional and we did not take part ! 0 stars. Apr 2009 Redhill Blind Pairs - another restored competition. Won this, partnering Richard Wickham of the Limes, beating Laurie Roberts/Lorraine Hamlin in the Final. 5 stars. Apr 2009 Portsmouth (Hants) Open. Made it to last 32 in this, best showing so far in this event: Lost to K.T. although I took a leg ! Won 5 frames out of 6 on the day. 4 stars. Apr 2009 1st Mid Sussex Masters. Played well to make Semi-Finals but well and truly beaten by Kevin Hall. 4 stars. May 2009 2nd Guernsey Open. Lost in 1st Rd to Ian Champion but with good score, played terribly in Plate against Tupper. But a great weekend with plenty of sunshine: On that alone merits 1 star. May 2009 Surrey One-Day Interleague at St Nicholas School, Merstham. Captained President's Team (in absence of D.C) to victory! 5 stars. May 2009 1st Surrey Open at St Nicholas School. Competition went without a hitch and I made it to my first-ever Semi-final in an 'Open'. 5 stars. Sep ’08 – May ’09 Mid Sussex League. Handcross Z finished runners-up to Greyhound - not bad after losing 6 out of our first 9 matches. I only lost once up to Xmas but lost 5 in 2nd half and we all struggled on the home table. 4 stars. Nov'08 - May '09 Mid Sussex Team Cup. Winners, beating the League Champions in the Final on Finals Night. 5 stars. Mar - May ’09 Mid Sussex Cup Competitions. Lost to Sparky on last ball in the Singles and only made as far as the Open Doubles Quarter-Final with John Turner. However won the Mixed Doubles with Margo (our 4th, equalling the record.) 5 stars. June 2009 Sussex Masters. Did not qualify this time. 0 stars. June 2009 Sussex Open at Roffey SSC. Lost to the missus in the first round :o (she won't let me forget that !) won one round of Plate but Steve Aylmore got his revenge on me for the Redhill Team Invitation. ;) 1 star.
So I make that 79 stars from 27 events, an average of 2.9 stars per performance. Only slightly better-than-average, with things picking up considerably in the second half !
* T'will be most interesting to see similar reports from, amongst others, Mr Reaper, BB Warrior, Mama Hall and the H-itman - all of whose seasons have eclipsed mine ! *

A pretty impressive harvest yield from the Reaper ! ;) Agree, there don't appear to have been any lows, and I think you failed to mention your team successes with Interleague (with Brighton in the Sussex and with Mid Sussex in the Surrey Team Invitation) 8-)

Interesting reading from Tommo and Mr Reaper…… 8-)
Having been reminded by Tommo a few weeks ago that it was “that time of year again”….. I made a few notes as I went back through memory lane of the last year...... ::)
Some significant highs to start off with…… not in any particular order, just as I thought of them….. ;)
Reaching the Final of the Portsmouth Open….. although I suppose that game itself could be classed as a “low” as well! :-[ Winning Mid-Sussex Singles for 2nd year running in great final with H. ;D Being selected for Sussex B in County Championships & finishing top of Division 2 Averages. ;D Winning Sussex Captains Cup. ;D Winning Lewes League and Sprackling Cup. ;D Meeting Colleen……. :-*
To put some detail on the last season….. the good, the bad and the ugly (rather than big, bald & Beautiful….!!) :D
LEAGUE PERFORMANCES Mid-Sussex League Won 19 out of 22 League matches, average of 7,579 and 6 scores above 10k. Won the Mid-Sussex Singles for 2nd year running in a great match with H, lost the Final of the Mid-Sussex Masters to Mr Reaper who played superbly to chase down the 8k lead I took in first game. Overall – much improved personal performances this season, with a fantastic end on Finals Night. Sadly, many of the good things were really overshadowed by the change of venue leading to a very unhappy end to the League season itself. Overall Mid-Sussex Rating – 4*
Lewes League Matches Started a new team with Colleen at Sportsman, very pleased to be joined by Tony Jenner, Henry, Gina & Charlie with Bill Kerr joining mid-season to replace Ros & Trevor after the problems with venue. Team won the League and I finished runner-up in the Averages. Won the Sprackling Cup and Runner-Up with Colleen in Mixed Doubles ;) Overall – a great season for us and a pleasure to play with my new team mates and win the League at our first attempt. Looking forward to next season and finding a new venue. ;D 8-) Overall Lewes Rating – 4*
Worthing League Matches Joined the Windmill team in Southwick and really enjoyed my first season with them, had some good wins but also lacked consistency in performance. Lost to SirKT in Singles, where I really didn’t play well or compete, reached semi-finals of Mixed Doubles with Colleen, who also reached the Ladies Singles Final. 8-) Overall – considerable room for improvement here next year, generally matches are much harder in Worthing than in the other Leagues I have been playing in and I need to be more consistent. ??? Overall Worthing Rating – 3*
Other Leagues Horsham League Played 2 games as a reserve for Handcross Club, winning the decider in the Cup against Roffey Club (their only defeat all season) and hitting 10k in my only League match at Limeburners. ;) Rating – 5*
West Sussex League Joined the “Exotic Sausages” on leaving Mid-Sussex League, playing from the Woolpack in Fishbourne (near Chichester) which is a great pub and a fantastic table. I won all 10 of my singles matches, ending with a 7k plus average and the team went from bottom of the League to Runners-Up. Reached Quarter-Finals of Mixed Doubles with Colleen in West Sussex Weekend. ;) Rating – 5*
Overall League Rating - 21* (out of possible 25)
Sussex Competitions Watney Mann Team Cup 2008 Played for CKRBL, team was knocked out in Quarter-Finals on a decider which I lost to Alan Messer. :'( Rating – 2* Inter League Home & Away Won 7 of my 10 matches in first season in Division 2, but need to improve next season. Rating – 3* Inter League One Day Cup Won all 5 of my matches and finished runner-up in Division 2 Averages. 8-) Rating – 5* Sussex Singles Beat Bill Kerr in first round… lost to Alan Brackenridge in the next. :( Rating – 1* Sussex Doubles Lost in first round of Mens Doubles and second round of Plate :( Lost in first round of Mixed Doubles against SirKT and Hayley, when I didn’t take my chances. ::) :-[ Rating – 1* Captains Cup Won Captains Cup, hitting 11.5k opening break in decider to win the match. 8-) Rating – 5* Sussex Masters Pleased to have qualified, finished as runner-up in my group behind eventual winner Richard Wooton, although I felt that I could have played better in my matches. ;) :-/ Rating – 3*
Overall – Generally pleased with the progress that I have made, although still room for improvement in some of my performances. ;) Overall Sussex Rating – 20* (out of 35)
OPENS / COUNTY / OTHER COMPETITIONS Kent Open 2008 Played well to win my opening match, but then lost to Mr Reaper in the last 32 in a disappointing performance. Rating – 2* :( Bucks Open 2008 Again, played well to win my opening match, but was then out-played by Chris Newson in the last 32. Rating – 3* ::) Berks Open 2008 Lost in opening round, played well to reach quarter-finals of the Plate where I had a nightmare. Rating – 1* :( County Championships Was very proud to be selected (as a fairly late selection) for the Sussex B Team, on a great day at Reading, The team won Division 2 with me finishing top of the individual averages. Rating – 5* ;D ;D Jersey / World Championships 2008 My first ever “Jersey” weekend….. Doubles Partnered Colleen and played well in the early rounds to reach the last 16, where we unfortunately met the formidable pairing of Jim Millward and Keith Sheard…… Rating – 3* ;) Singles I won my 2nd Round match which took me through to the Sunday morning where I lost to Chris Reeves in a game that I had chances…. but didn’t take them. Rating – 2* :( Redhill Team Invitation 2009 Played for Mid-Sussex, team reached Final where we lost to Brighton with me winning 5 of my 6 games. Rating – 4* ;) Oxon Open 2009 Surprised myself by winning some tough matches against good opponents to reach the Quarter-Finals where I was knocked out by Pete Sainsbury by less than 1k having lost a 4k+ break in the first game. Very pleased to have got that far, but disappointed with last game. Rating – 4* ;D :-/ Bournemouth Pairs Enjoyed partnering Tony Jenner, we won our first couple of matches before losing to SirKT and Mr Reaper in the 3rd Round. A great weekend, made even better by Colleen reaching the last 16 with Dave France. Rating – 3* ;) Portsmouth Open 2009 Well, what can I say here….. one of the best days of my life, with a crashing disappointment to end it! Played well all day, beat some good players and reached the Final only to leave both balls short on my opening break against SirKT. As you would expect, no mercy was shown. Rating – 4* ;D ;D :-[ :'( Guernsey Open 2009 Knocked out in my first match in a close match against Mr H, won my first Plate game (against a generous Alan Brackenridge) only to lose more than I scored in the Quarter-Final. Colleen also made the Plate Quarter-Final and we had a great weekend in Guernsey, but didn’t play as well as I would have liked. Rating – 1* :'( Surrey Open 2009 A new venue on the circuit and I won a couple of close matches before losing to Paul Sainsbury in the last 32. Colleen made it to the last 16 and we both had a great day. Rating – 3* ;) Sussex Open I reached the 3rd Round this year before losing to Mark James although I was generally disappointed with my performances in both games that I played. Rating – 1* ::) :'( Total Rating for Opens / County / Others – 36* (out of possible 65
Overall Well, I think that I have made some progress this season, but still feel that there is a lot of room for improvement and I am keen to learn and develop more as a player. Personally, I have had a great year and I would not have believed that I would have met a very special lady through bar billiards, who has bought so much into my life. :-* :-* :-* Overall Total – 77* / 125 (which works out to be 61.6%, in comparison to 51% last year.)

Here are my high and lows for 2008/09 Highs
- Surrey Open 09 – winning this tournament was definitely the highlight for me. Maybe (with no disrespect to the players I played) I didn't have the toughest route to the final but I played well all day. And that match against Tommo will live long in the memory. Very nice to be the first name on that trophy. - Berks Open 08 – great to play a mate like Lloydy in the final and to beat him when he was on form. The 7k break I made to start leg 2 to seal the win was one of my best on a tough table. - Bournemouth 2009 - without doubt the best I have ever played over the course of one weekend. I was running out tables for funand made 3 20k breaks. Chris was great too in that semi against the 2 Kevs. I am not quite sure how he made that 100-30 shot to win the match. - Sussex Singles 09 - my third county title but probably my sweetest beating KT and Terry Race in the semis and final. You don't often get the chance to play Racey in competition play these days and I did well coming back from 10k down. - National Team - great day for the BRewery Tap. Unbelivable to be 4-0 up in the final and no need to play the last leg!. We missed out a few times on this one which made the win so important to us.
Lows - Jersey - I never seem to get any luck in this tournament. This year though I had even worse luck when the red got stuck in the table against Ian Champion with 3 minutes to go in round 2. I had just lost a 2k break as well which was crucial. After we got a red to play the last couple of minutes both me and Ian couldn't pot a ball. I eventually lost on the last ball but it would have been a horrible way to win as the interuption affected us both. Anyway I hope for a bit more luck In Jersey this time around..... - International v Jersey - we got a real drubbing in Jersey this year, I never felt right in my game against Graham Bisson and got beat 3-0, and it always hurts to lose in an England shirt. Much happier with my performance v Guernsey last weekend. - Sussex Inter League/ 1 Day - Although I have had individual success, the teams I have plyed in have struggled this year (National Team Champs aside). Brighton finished runners up in both inter league competitions, the home and away the bigger blow, losing to Worthing in the last match. - Brighton League - to finish so far behind the Three Horseshoes was very disappointing, we just didn't fire for the second half of the season and didn't play like national champions. However the defence of our national title has just started with a 3-2 win tonight over the Dyke so I think things are looking up.
A year where my highs were mainly from an individual point of view and my lows came in my teams performances but hope to put that right next year. I still feel I am getting better year by year and as long as you feel that then you should always feel optimistic about the future. Lets hop the table situation is resolved and we can look forward to the same number and quality of competitions next year.

- very proud of my team mates (if I can count myself as still part of a team that I haven't played in this year!!!! Of course you're part of the team Josie, and we obviously missed you as we slipped down the table from the finish of 3rd the previous year. Looking forward to when you can make your comeback. ;) :-* :-* :-*

My ups and downs this season....................none, because I have not taken my cue from its case since the last match of last season. Those who will be at the Kent Classic, I will enjoy renewing friendships, and chatting about past events. Good luck to 1 and all.

The dust has nearly settled on the season, and it's that time again when we reflect on how things went - in our favour as well as against. Here's a definitive account of my season, as full of the usual lows as well as highs: (Have allocated star rating on a scale of 0-5 for each event, and will average it out for the whole season at the end.)
July 2009 Limes Triples. Partnered Pete Hall and Steve Baldwin, losing semi-finalists. The missus won the Plate! 4 stars. July 2009 Surrey County Singles. Joint second in group, but forewent qualification in favour of young Aaron who deserved it more. 4 stars. July 2009 Kent Classic. Made the Last 16. Good wins v Brian Daniels and Bryan Stevens, but lost out on a precious quarter-final place to Vinny Mitchell. 4 stars. July 2009 1st Brewers Invitation Singles. The first-ever winner! Beat TJ in a close final. Great event, beautiful trophy. 5 stars. Aug 2009 Bucks Open. Last 32. Beat two ladies but got stung by a wasp before playing Dave Alder and well beaten. 3 stars. Sep 2009 County championships at Reading. Finished above the strong Northants and Oxon B, but Surrey A missed out to Kent A in the decisive match. Still, my first-ever All-England trophy - even if it is for runners-up. 5 stars. Oct ’09 – Apr ’10 Redhill League. Team once again finished half-way up in a mediocre season. Played some good games, though, and I finished in the top ten players list. 4 stars. Oct ’09 – Apr ’10 SCBBA Home/Away Interleague. Runners-up equal on points to Brighton. I still hate the nomination system, but it seems to work well for my team Redhill A ! 5 stars. Nov ’09 World Championships @ Jersey. My worst showing for years: blew big break in 1st round to lose to Dave Anderton, then outplayed in the Plate by Bucks' Richard Hawes. Enjoyed the karaoke, though. ;) 1 star. Nov '09 Worthing Jubilee Triples. Support for Neil Higgins. Eliminated at first stage on aggregate countback. 2 stars. Nov '09 Grand Prix. Surprise qualifier, predictably finished bottom of group, but took one leg from an England player. 2 stars Jan '09-Jun'09 Sussex Competitions - didn't enter any, and no Masters qualification, so 0 stars. Jan 2010 Redhill One-Day Mixed Pairs. Partnered Lady H again and we made our qualification but yet again lost our quarter-final. 3 stars. Jan 2010 Redhill Team Invitation. Guested for Mid Sussex again, 3rd this year, and I broke even on games won/lost. 3 stars. Jan – Feb ’10 Redhill Team Cups. Lost in first round of Bill Burwood Cup (thrashed by a ladies team on our own top), but through to Semi-final of Presidents Cup (still to play). 4 stars. Feb 2010 Oxon Open. First go at this, made last 32. Came back well to beat Alan Lowe, but lost to Dick Dewdney, outplayed in 2nd leg. Enjoyed the venue. 3 stars. Feb 2010 Sussex One-Day Interleague. Played for Redhill: Won 4/8 and we finished a good third. 3 stars. Sep ’09 - Apr ’10 Mid Sussex Charity League. Topped our group by quite a margin, but we blew our semi-final v the Watermill. 4 stars. Apr 2010 Redhill Blind Pairs - Partnered Bobby Davis: she played well, but I couldn't do much. 1 star. Apr 2010 Portsmouth (Hants) Open. Made it to last 32 again, Beat Geoff Powell and Brian Daniels. but lost narrowly to Chris Newson. 4 stars. Apr 2010 2nd Mid Sussex Masters. Played like a man possessed to make Final but then beaten on Finals Night by Henry Brooks. 5 stars. May 2010 3rd Guernsey Open. Lost a good contest with Terry Kenny and then in the Plate to Steven Sheard when I had it in the bag! But our hotel was great and the weekend most enjoyable: for that alone, 3 stars. May 2010 Surrey One-Day Interleague at St Nicholas School, Merstham. Captained the 'A' League representative Team on behalf of Sally and we finished a creditable 3rd out of 8. 4 stars. May 2010 2nd Surrey Open at St Nicholas School. Under-achieved compared to last year, but made the last 32 with four good scores- before falling to eventual winner K.T. 4 stars. Sep ’09 – May ’10 Mid Sussex League. What can I say? A change to a quality venue and a quality table to play on: We won the league by 10 clear points and five of us finished in the top 16 list. 5 stars. Nov'09 - May '10 Mid Sussex Team Cup. Retained this, beating a strengthened Laughing Fish team on Finals Night, John Turner winning the crucial frame. 5 stars. Mar - May ’10 Mid Sussex Cup Competitions. Lost to Dave Ingram in the Singles on a careless shot in the decider, and in the first round of the Open Doubles against a Watermill pair. However won the Mixed Doubles with Margo (our 8th Final and 5th title.) 5 stars. June 2010 Sussex Open at Roffey SSC.........still to come. [edit - got to last 32 and put in a reasonable performance against Milko, who probably had a gear to spare.....3.5pts]
I make that 98.5 stars from 28 events, an average of 3.5 stars per performance, well up on my previous two seasons. I reckon a season with a 70% success rate is as good as it gets, I can't ask for more. ;D
How did the season go for all of you, then ?

High,
Completing my third best ever run of twenty consecutive league wins and winning my twenty sixth league winners title with a great bunch of lads.
Low
Tne open singles final two nights ago when the match on a table I like and I was winning had to be abandoned because of a power failure and losing the rematch on an alternate table that I'm not fond of.

Well, as promised, here is my "school" report for the last year..... ;)
A very busy year in which I somehow managed to play in 8 different Leagues during the course of the season….. :o .... plus Inter League, Opens, Individual Competitions etc etc….. No wonder I’m so tired now!! ::)
The major change was moving away from Mid-Sussex to play in the Brighton League on Wednesday nights, although we also changed venues in the Lewes League and I was invited to play for Worthing A in the Sussex Inter League Competition as well. 8-)
As usual, a mixed year of highs and lows….. let’s start with the highs! ;D
Being selected to play for England in the match against Guernsey, winning both my Singles & Doubles – mainly thanks to Sir KT in the Doubles! 8-) Qualifying to play in the Grand Prix, finished Runner-Up in my Group behind Paul Sainsbury after beating Jim Millward and Kevin Hall. ;D Winning Bucks Open Plate….. after losing to Milko on aggregate in the First Round. :'( Reaching the quarter-final of the Oxford Open for the second year running. Reaching Quarter-Finals of AEBBA Mixed Doubles with Colleen :-*, after winning our Group. Hitting personal best break of 16,340 in first round of Portsmouth Open. Winning the Sussex Captains Cup for the second year running, also reached semi-finals of Mens Singles and Mixed Doubles (with Colleen) and finishing 4th in the Sussex Rankings. Runners-Up in the Sussex One Day Inter League Competition for Worthing A….. finishing 3rd in Division One Home & Away Inter League. Winning the Brighton Singles Plate Competition in my first season in Brighton…… also Runner-Up (to Sir KT) in the Off-the-Spot Competition. Reaching semi-finals of Watney Mann Team Cup playing for the Windmill, Southwick and winning the Nobby Clark Plate Summer Competition in Worthing League. Winning the Lewes League Mens Singles, Sprackling Individual Cup, Captains Cup, Team Knock-Out Cup and we also finished runners-up in the League. Wonderful support from the whole United Services Club team throughout the entire season, it is truly a pleasure to play in the same team as them. 8-) Retaining my Mid-Sussex Singles title….. ;D ...first person to win it 3 years running….. :P ....winning the Doubles with Henry ‘H’itman Brooks and the Team Charity Cup and Runners-Up in Team Knock-Out Cup for the Laughing Fish. ;) Winning Redhill Mixed Pairs with Colleen…… 8-) ... also Runner-Up in Limes Triples (with Alan Nicholls & Angie Turner) and Redhill Team Invitation Competition playing for Worthing. Winning the Horsham Masters….. having qualified after playing only 10 games (winning all of them!) out of the 22 League matches as a reserve for Plough B Team. :o Winning all 9 of my games in West Sussex League, helping Colleen’s team (Winterton A) to win Division 3 and winning the Highest Away Break Award. ;)
Now, some of the Lows…..
Losing all 4 games in County Championships and playing like a total wally…… :-[ Losing in first round of World Championships (Singles & Doubles) when I had chances to win both games. ::) Losing in second round of British Open Pairs….. when I under performed and let my partner down. :( After a great start winning my first 6 games in Brighton League playing for the Schooner, , I then lost 6 of our last 9 matches….. including a couple of deciders. :-/ Losing 2 crucial games in the Sussex Home & Away Inter League…… which potentially cost us the title. :( A poor start to the season in Worthing League….. but managed to pull it back in the second half of the season. :-/ Losing from winning positions in both the Portsmouth Open (against Ian Lelliott) and Surrey Open (against Richard Wooton)….. :'( ....although full credit to both of my opponents who took their chances well. ;) Problems in Mid-Sussex (again) which eventually meant that I resigned from the Committee, withdrew from the Masters Competition and won’t defend my Singles Title next season – even if I had been allowed to. :-X :-X :-X Disappointing performance in the Sussex Masters & Open weekend. :-/
Overall, more Highs than Lows which (hopefully!) means that I am still making progress and improving my game….. ;D .... but still a “could do better if I was more consistent” would be a fair judgment. ::)
I’m looking forward to the challenges of next season, with a couple of possible venue changes for our teams on the horizon…… 8-) .... and less games as I won’t be playing in so many Leagues next season – honestly! ::) ;D

I make that 24 trophies that you won in one season, Warrior. ;D
Would be interested to know if KT, Sheardo or Nigel have ever matched or bettered that......................
Was speaking to Lloydy yesterday and we both reckon that playing in 8 different leagues in the same season must constitute some sort of World Record - in any sport. :-/

Well my season was fairly simple compared to most!
Started off losing everything in the 1st half ::) Including games that were in the bag! ::)
Then in the 2nd half I played a bit better
Won the West Sussex plate....my 1st ever singles trophy ;D
Apparently in this 2nd half I was 3rd in Littlehampton! Shame about the 1st half!!
Played home and away interleague for the 1st time and met some truly great people, had fantastic nights out with my team....made up of people that just wanted to go out together and play BB win lose or draw! 8-)
Then at the Sussex open I managed to lose a record number of ponts in 2 frames, probably more than I normally keep!! :'(
A very proud moment was seeing my name on the tipsters thread! (Thanks chunky monkey's other half!) Sorry I did not turn up!
Overall......
Been fun again!......
.......But then why else would you go out!! ;)

July 2010 Limes Triples. Partnered Alan Nicholls and Neil Palmer, losing Plate semi-finalists (succumbed to a great back-to-the-wall comeback from Fritz). 3 stars. July 2010 Surrey County Singles. Won Group B undefeated before losing to eventual winner Jukesy. 4 stars. July 2010 Kent Classic. Thrashed by Mark ‘Bonecrusher’ Brewster. In Plate, a good win v Nick Wren but lost in the last 16 to Pete Phillips. 3 stars. July 2010 2nd Brewers Invitation Singles. Poor defence of title, though an enjoyable day ! Margo bt Russell Jennings but I lost to Jock. 1 star. Aug 2010 Bucks Open. A bad day at the office, struggled on the tables. Lost to Ian Moss in the main, then to Hayley in the Plate. 0 stars. Sep 2010 County championships at Reading. Runners-up again, this time to Oxon B. Won 3 out of 4, gained 2 RPs . Downed 9 pints, Great day. 5 stars. Oct ’10 – Apr ’11 SCBBA Home/Away Interleague. Lost the first two and my team Redhill A put me out of my misery soon after that…. 0 stars. Nov ’10 World Championships @ Jersey. Gave it a miss this year, so 0 stars. Jan '11 Sussex Competitions - didn't enter any, and no Masters qualification, so 0 stars. Jan 2011 Redhill One-Day Mixed Pairs. Won this, partnering Lady H again. 5 stars. Jan 2011 Redhill Team Invitation. Guested for Mid Sussex again, 5th this year, I won 4/7 with average of 5429. 5 stars. Feb 2011 Oxon Open. Byes in 2 rounds to earn 0.5 RP, then found wanting v Ricky Dewdney. Nice venue. 3 stars. Feb 2011 Sussex One-Day Interleague. Played for Redhill: Won 5/8 and we finished a good third. 5 stars. Sep ’10 – Mar ’11 Horsham League. First game back after a ten-year absence. Won 20 lost 1 (Best Performance, Div 2). (NB.Qualified for the Masters but unable to play as the date changed.) Team were unbeaten up to Christmas, stuttered a bit in the 2nd half, but still hung on to win the title. 5 stars. Apr 2011 Portsmouth (Hants) Open. Another bad day at the office. Won first leg v Tony Webster with 6k, but he played table out in leg two. Allowed myself to be put off by Sid Ponting and capitulated to Ian Gordon in the Plate. 1 star. Apr 2011 1st Guernsey Pairs. Margo and I put up a good fight against the eventual winners Harry Barbet and Chris Tupper. 2 stars. May 2011 4th Guernsey Open. Last 32 thanks to a win against Maria Hearne on a difficult table, but Trevor Gallienne was far too strong in the next round. Managed a 2.5k break though – not bad for off-the-spot. A most enjoyable weekend though with 5-course dinners at our hotel: for that alone, 3 stars. Sep ’10 – May ’11 Horsham Cup Competitions. Lost to Adam Bateup in Singles but Margo and I landed our third Mixed Doubles title, 30 years after the first. 5 stars. Sep’10 – May ’11 Horsham Team Cup. Disappointing Semi-final defeat. 3 stars. May 2011 Surrey One-Day Interleague at St Nicholas School, Merstham. Played for President’s Team and we finished a creditable 4th out of 8. I won 4 out of 7. 4 stars. May 2011 3rd Surrey Open at St Nicholas School. Similarly to Pompey, let slip a 5k advantage, against Bryan Stevens this time. Must work on my split position ! Last 16 of Plate (2 wins) before blowing 5k in two breaks against Pauline Withey. 3 stars. Sep ’10 – May ’11 Mid Sussex League. Second successful year at the Mill House: We won the league by a country mile and five of us finished in the top 16 list. 5 stars. Feb - May ’11 Mid Sussex Cup Competitions. Knocked out of everything pretty early on. 0 stars. May 2011 3rd Mid Sussex Masters. Last 8: Good first round and then one good leg only v Graham Daniels, 3 stars. Nov'10 - May '11 Mid Sussex Team Cup. Finalists for 2nd successive year, but a disappointing performance on Finals night, losing to Hurst A by the odd frame.. 4 stars. June 2011 Sussex Open at Roffey SSC. Got to last 32 before suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of the Warrior.....3 stars.
I make that 75 stars from 25 events, an average of 3 stars per performance, not as good as last year but matching the year before. A sign to start cutting down, perhaps ?

Margo and I fell at the first hurdle when defending our Mixed Doubles title, after a bright (4k break) start. 1 star. Sep’11 – May ’12 Horsham Team Cup. Made it to the Final, Johnny Haigh winning vital game against Micky Fairs. Lost an exciting but close Final to Stout House BB. 5stars. Since Tommo was obviously feeling lonely last year.... ::) Well, I was the only one who bothered last year, but I think Warrior will join in again as he has just had his best season yet ! .... I suppose somebody had better join in this time, although I won't be anything like as detailed as he was, it will just be as I think of it! ;) Yes, I've really enjoyed playing the last year and was proud to have been selected for the England Team and also being part of the Sussex B Team that won promotion to Division 1 of the County Championships with a great all round team performance that everybody contributed to on the day. 8-) My thanks to my team mates at the Laughing Fish (Lewes League), Gardeners (who became New Sussex in Brighton League), Duke of Wellington (Worthing League), the Mill House (Horsham) and Brighton A Inter League Team (who completed the double in Sussex) for the past season.... also to my doubles partners Henry Brooks, Bill Kerr and Colleen.... :-* ....we won more games than we lost and picked up a few trophies along the way, but most of all I really enjoyed your Company. ;D Unlike Tommo (who has obviously been playing since Methuselah was wearing shorts...! :o ;D), I have only just finished my 6th full season of playing.... most people seem to think that I've been playing a lot longer than that, perhaps it is the (very large!) bald patch that makes them think that.... ;D .... so I'm not planning on "winding down" next year beyond saying that I won't be getting so involved with some of the organisation as I have done due to some of the "politics" that sadly seems to abound in certain areas and I would say that has to be the only real "low" that I have had this season. ::) >:( I love playing the game and have made many new friends in the past few years as a result of this.... long may that continue. Good luck to all in the year ahead. ;)
