You'll do well to average 7k-8k week in week out, unless the tables in your area are of exceptional quality. With the tables we encounter down in Sussex there's always one to bring you back down to earth, and a 5k average is a much more realistic target to strive for in the League. Good luck, though.

I have said to many before, not wishing to bring you down, but one swallow does not make a spring. Just keep practising, but it is a mistake to believe you will do that every time, unless you are KT of course.
Well done!

I often find that the more I practice the worse I get... If I end up moving to the west country I wont get any practice at all and will play the opens cold - WATCH OUT

Or - do you just expect the onset of a new ice age down in the west country?

What Q means is, bar billiards tables in the west country (as in Lincolnshire) are as rare as rocking-horse sh!t. ::)

In Lincolnshire you are more likely to find rocking horse ..........!!! I have yet to find a single table. But am constantly treading in the other!!

Another thread prompted me to add my bit on this one. When I first started playing 20 years ago (the oldest player in our team at one stage was 26, how things change), everyone used to practice, as it was necessary to maintain a competitive standard. When the cost of games went up (in about ’91) to £1.00, I gave up bar billiards and joined a quiz team. It wasn’t because I objected to the cost, but rather I didn’t think it would be possible to continue to practice and so maintain a decent standard.
I started playing again in 2000, and since then don’t really bother practicing too much, as the overall standard is not as high as it used to be, and also half the tables are of a poor standard. No amount of practice will rescue you from a table with a pudding of a cloth (such as the table I lost on last Tuesday 2,200-1,200 against the break, on which I reverted to playing pool shots, and the balls still didn’t reach the pegs. Fair play to my opponent though, who stayed patient and continued building his score). Also, just haven't got into the habit of going out to practice on the say the Monday evening.
I tend to practice only on match night to simply to get warmed up, but the only other time I practice is when Kent Interleagues etc are approaching, or the rare occasion I enter an Open, such as the Kent Classic. And Jersey, of course. Would enter more Opens, but 4 hours travelling back to East Kent afterwards is little fun.
