So Team GB win their first medal, and it's Silver.... we still trail Kazakhstan in the medals table.
Well done though to Lizzie Armitstead in the Women's Road Race.
And Good luck to Becky Adlington in the 400m swimming final tonight.

Yes indeed, apart from Rowing today, nothing much for us to get excited about until Wednesday and Bradley Wiggins in the Cycling - then Chris Hoy on Thursday and Victoria Pendleton on Friday. All proven world-beaters. 8-)

Well there's still chances after all for some GB medal action soon.......
Robbie Renwick is in the 200m Freestyle final tonight (7.41pm); And check out the Backstroke finals : Gemma Spofforth goes in the womens at 7.49pm and Liam Tancock in the mens at 7.56pm. Good luck to this trio.
Aside from that, it's been another day of mixed fortunes for Team GB..... Heartbreak for Daley and Waterfield - 4th in the diving (after leading but blowing it with the last dive); A British weightlifting record from Zoe Smith, but not in the medals but a great future prospect nonetheless.
But good chances for team GB in the ongoing mens gymnastics and the equestrian team events; And Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins broke the Olympic record on their way to qualifying for the double sculls final on Friday. They have never been beaten. 8-)

And what about that Gymnastics, Tommo, an exciting finish, and could have been silver but for the Japan appeal at the end which just added to the drama.
Off to see Mullin and Dampney at the beach volleyball tomorrow, they won their first game, should be good...

And what about that Gymnastics, Tommo, an exciting finish, and could have been silver but for the Japan appeal at the end which just added to the drama. Yeah, what was that about, appealing because they didn't like the number of points docked for a lacklustre display and a bad landing? >:( Outrageous ! Best drama for me came tonight courtesy of two teenage foreign swimmers: 17-y-o Missy Franklin just about qualified for the 200m freestyle final, and just 15 minutes later was in the pool again to win the gold at 100m backstroke. One could be forgiven for writing off her chances, but then the penny dropped that she had just done the minimum required in the first race. 15-y-o Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte won the womens 100m breaststroke after there was a false start, the buzzer going off before 'on your marks' had been called. A hilarious moment while a chap who liked like he was out of the 118 advert appeared with a replacement box. ;D ;D After Ruta had won, they interviewed her and she looked completely bemused and shellshocked, hardly realising what she had just done - or the significance of a first-ever gold for her country ! Clare Balding was herself almost moved to tears in the commentary box ! :o

And individual medals are still up for grabs for 2 of our girls (Mary King and/or Tina Cook). Turns out we drew a blank there. Also bad news with past medal winners David Florence (Canoe Slalom) and Gemma Howell (Judo) missing out this time around. We have Caitlin McClatchley going in a few minutes (7.39) in the Womens 200m Freestyle final: good luck to her.

But.......Jenna Lowe won through to the 200m Butterfly final tomorrow; And a real chance for two Britons in the mens 200m Breaststroke final: Michael Jamieson and Andrew Willis who qualified in 1st and 3rd place, both bettering the previous British record in their separate heats. And some more endearing foreigners: Chad Le Clos blubbing at beating Michael Phelps to butterfly gold, his mum and dad too, and then Phelps winning his 19th Olympic medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay.

Yay !
GB win our first Gold Medal at London 2012: Helen Glover and Heather Stanning win our first ever female rowing gold medals in the Pairs - they led throughout and won by an impressive margin. 8-) 8-)
Possibility of more to come.

Thank you Lewis,,
Our rowers got a team bronze, but the action picks up today with more good chances of gold - Bradley Wiggins going for a treble, and the two 200m breaststroke guys. (I'm good at breast stroke myself but my favoured swim is doggy paddle - not an Olympic event !)
Big up to Beth Tweddle and the UK gymnasts yesterday: tremendous but of course the Romanians and Russians were on another planet. Also the last qualifying match for Team GB football tonight, v. Uruguay. 8-)

Silver for Michael Jamieson, with another British record, and it took a world record from the Hungarian Gyurta to beat him ! 8-) James Goddard qualifies for the 200m Individual Medley Final tomorrow; unlucky to Joe Roebuck; Fran Hansall qualifies for the Womens 100m Freestyle Final tomorrow; unlucky to Amy Smith; Jemma Lowe (6th) misses out on a medal in the 200m Butterfly final..... ....but a good effort from our girls (5th) in the 4 x 200 freestyle relay final. * Team GB proceed to the quarterfinals of the Football *

Wow, what a medal haul for team GB today !
Gold in Double Trap Shooting for Peter Wilson;
Gold AND Silver in the Canoe Slalom Pairs for Etienne Stott & Tim Baillie (G) and David Florence & Richard Hounslow (S).
Silver for our Lightweight Rowers team;
Silver for Gemma Gibbons in the Womens Judo Gem.
Andy Murray is through to the Semis with a great chance of a medal.
Only blot on the day so far is the disqualification of Victoria Pendelton and Jess Varnish in the Team Sprint Cycling. Vicky has two more chances for glory (today and tomorrow) at her last Olympics. Poor Jess faces 4 more years of waiting and training. Vicky was philosphical about it "some days rubbish things happen"....... Tell me about it ! ::)

GOLD for the team sprint (cycling) - Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy - a fifth one for Sir Chris. ;D And they set a new World Record in doing it. 8-)

James Goddard only manages 7th in 200m individual medley final - in which Michael Phelps wins his 3rd consecutive Olympic Gold in this particular event. And his 20th medal, an all-time record which might never be beaten.
Fran Hansall 6th in the Womens 100m freestyle final (still has hope in the 50m). *
But Lizzie Simmonds qualifies for tomorrow's 200m backstroke final. 8-)
* Fran could only manage 5th in the Final.

Yes what a great day, I really enjoyed following the skeet shooting and canoe slalom (2 sports you would never normally get the chance to watch) at the same time on my computer and TV to see two golds in the space of 10 mins.
Most emotional performance came Gemma Collins in the Judo, her semi final seemed to go on for ever, then she finally beat the French woman
Then joy and disappointment in the cycling where the men won but the woman got disqualified losing a guaranteed silver and chance for gold.
Becky Adlington tomorrow plus the atheltics where Jess Ennis starts the Heptathlon....

Most emotional performance came Gemma Collins in the Judo, her semi final seemed to go on for ever, then she finally beat the French woman Yes indeed, what a great run she had, and didn't she come across well at the interviews afterwards. Lovely smile and made up for her fella's disappointment earlier in the week. The success continues in the rowing...... Bronze medal in the Pairs for George Nash and William Satch; GOLD for Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins in the womens double sculls; And bronze for Alan Cambell in the single sculls. And the best possible start for Jessica Ennis - 1st place and a personal best in the 100m hurdles. 8-)

We have another bronze: Karina Bryant in the Judo. 8-)
The Aussies have commented that the British only excel as sports where you sit down (ie cycling, boating, equestrian). But hey, two judo medals and hopefully more swimming and athletics to come. Plus tennis and football.

Great swim from Lizzie Simmonds, just missing out on bronze in 200m backstroke. Winner Missy Franklyn set up a new WR and is young enough to dominate events for years to come.
....and Bronze only for Rebecca Adlington, despite a great swim (16 lengths = the equivalent of half a mile). Kate Ledecky another awesome American youngster, almost took Becky's world record.
Just one more day to go with the swimming, has been entertaining.
