Eastbourne Winter League 2012-2013

Hi all Eastbourne bar billiards fans,
Just a reminder that we have a meeting on Tuesday 14th August at 8.15 at the DGH social club to confirm all teams for the 2012-2013 season. It seems that we may not be able to attract any new venues despite a lot of effort being made but fingers still crossed   ::) ::)

Ozzie has sent out more than 150 intro pacs to pubs and clubs in our area including Barley Mow selmeston,Half Moon heathfield, Kings head Hailsham but to no avail.

Think its not venues we need but players,"theres the rub" how can we make it easier to attract new young players into this game? dont think it'll be an olympic sport any time soon :'(

Why not make the table free on weekends to get players on the table and plenty watching when the pub is busy

Well done Mikes Marauders deserved win tonight, first go at all double breaks and so far so good, the star table played pretty straight tonight, all here at 7.30 so we started early and finished at a sensible time.

Jason akehurst is moving to worthing shortly so hopefully he will find a local team to play for, which means the star B are looking for an additional player

Not normally one to comment on table but
was amazed to see that table
had been moved again after the work done last week to make the table playable.
Serious amount of levelling work done after game one Good luck with this one Gandalf :) ;D
Also our captain had obviously not informed rest of team about new start time
so burning the midnight oil again still that's what red bulls for !!

10.9k opening break and a new PB by Colin just missing out on my first 15k score DOH, but does it count as a home or away break? i said as its on the star table it cant be an away break even though officially its an away table.

Martin got distracted by another pub tonight, turned up late...... and talked a lot :-*

Ozzie senior turned up tonight just for a scoring frenzie but we convinced him to play in the doubles, will be playing bowls for the rest of the season, spent a fair percentage of his game playing with wood tonight as well! Nice to hear Hastings is nearly set for the new winter league.

The match could have gone either way with both doubles matches nip and tuck throughout and plenty of chances for all with phil finishing on 3k break ending 230 behind with 1 ball left followed by a BP in game 5 and colin with a similar break at the death in game 6

Glad to see you enjoying the Star Top again Ozzie , we could always bend the rules a bit and get you an engraved tankard but we'ed have to cut it in half to share between you and fred 8-) ;D

Also glad to see Chris Haynes getting some reasonable scores again, Must have heard i was thinking of dropping him from the interleague side ::)

Also looks like ALL Eastbourne Tables are now good quality tops and player averages are improving as a consequence, together with the new Double breaks in the league of course. Now Eastbourne and Hastings both start at 8.00pm Everything appears to be on the up in the Eastern end of Sussex Yahoo!!! :-*

At last this double postponed match has been completed, in a sometimes tetchy but generally ok encounter with our old foes from the hospital club.

Rez our Hastings super sub was behind for the duration but scraped a win by playing the balls to a close after the bar had dropped
similar game for Terry and Stew but the shoe was on the other foot and a good 1.7k from terry mid game was enough to secure the game
Andy was always in front against heather and never looked like losing however another positive game from heather and her 2nd consecutive over 1k score, well done to her
Colin off early again but Chris struggled with a table that played harder as the evening progressed and didnt look like the player he is, Colin recovered the break and scored enough to secure the 4th game so 2-2 at the interval. Both doubles matches as usual this season went to the star B to score only their 2nd win of the season which now opens up the league title to all participant teams

Eastbourne Doubles Semis Results

Colin & Heather v Phil & Peter

Game 1 Colin opened with 5k and remained 5k ahead
Game 2 Phil opened with 8.5k and remained 8.5k ahead
Game 3 Heather and Peter both off early, Phil made 3k Colin Returned 4k, phil, another 1.5k finishing 340 ahead with the final red remaining, peter missed the 100, Heather after nearly a decade of play has not yet learnt which part of the table to play the 200 from :'( :'( :-* ;D ending half way between the 100 and 200, still she has potential ;)Phil had a big bounce off the cush to miss the 100 and Colin played into the 200 off the black peg without felling it, so a nail biting end to and interesting match with a lucky result for the eventual winners

in the other semi

Chris Haynes and Lee Sunshine beat Chrises Turner and Hagger at the star tonight and by way of celebration took their first attempt at 4 pin billiards, think it made their eyes water a bit

sorry colin ( gandalf) we played tony smith and gareth dell! half decent break on a dodgy table won it for us in first game, they thrashed us in 2nd game, and unfortunately gareth black pegged in 3rd game when 500 behind after bar had gone! so no worries for you in final!!!!

the atempt at 4 pin was absurd! who really plays this as a format? highest break was gareth dell with 760! cant see it continuing that much! ha ha ha
