Well done Davy
I will pass on your best wishes. Apparently the Guinness was flowing even before the final leg, and Mace ordered a bottle of Champers and six glasses ! La Fontaine Landlord Colin de Jersey and wife Cindy turned up for the final game, so very much a family affair with his brother and grandson playing for the team. No doubt on finals/presentation night, there will be one or two celebration drinks being consumed also ::) ::) ::)

I think Baulkliners again however it will be close all round this season Baulikliners 42 Points Breakaways 41 Points Layabouts 40 points Giants 39 points Fontaine 38 points Player of the Year Ian Champion followed by Paul Dyer Singles winner Trevor Pairs Diddy and Matt Handicapp winner Norman Wilkinson or Paul Le Gallez As the Guernsey League Season draws to a close, here is the current situation. A very close finish to the season (Oge got one prediction right) wjth 3 teams in the mix for the League Title. Taken from GBBA website Baulkliners - Played 15, Won 10, Points 47 Giants - Played 15, Won 11, Points 45 Breakaways - Played 15, Won 8, Points 45 Remaining significant Fixtures; Layabouts v Baulkliners at The Ex Service Club Giants v Fontaine at La Fontaine Breakaways v Layabouts at Rangers Club Giants have 'come from nowhwhere' :o with three impressive 4-1 wins against Layabouts, Breakaways and reigning champions Baulkliners. Baulkliners hold the advantage with a 2 points lead, however have to put in a big win during their final fixture on 9th April, with the breaks at Layabouts. On the same night, Giants are home against the break v stablemates and bottom team Fontaine, so they could put in a good win if they keep up the current form. Breakaways have a tough fixture v Layabouts at Rangers Club, in the postponed game due to Guernseys Artic winter. Player of the year - Tom Oliver currently favourite with only 3 league losses, however he may have to share the trophy with a few players, if he looses his last match. Handicap winner - Probably John van Katwyk (Giants) who has had his best season ever. Island singles - Trevor still in of course, but so is Diddy and Bob Chapple (not sure who else) Island Pairs - Dyer and Ogier out ! Meanwhile at the foot of the table Layabouts play hosts to Fontaine tonight, where the Guinness and Cider will be flowing no doubt, to get rid of the taste of all those horrible chocolate Easter eggs ::)

congratulations to the Baulkliners who retain the league title with a 4-1 win against the Layabouts and Trevor scoring the highest break of the season with 18+k
Tom Oliver also takes the player of the season with only 3 loses.
Oe match to play with runners up spot still up for grabs, With the breakaways trailing the Giants by 3 points and have the layabouts on the Rangers table.

The date - St. George's Day - 23rd April 2013 A.D. A date that will go down in history, as the day a great battle took place between the Knights of Guernsey, at La Fontaine on the Isle of Sarnia, now the stately Manor of Lord Colin and Lady Cindy de Jersey. Legends tell that the name La Fontaine is derived from the name given to the ancient well that used to be on the site, that never ran dry, fed by a magical underwater stream. The fresh water from this well gave mystical and magical powers to the Knights of old, to prepare them for many battles against the French. So it was very fitting that the Battle of St Georges Day was to take place here. So on this day, the four trusty Knights met to do battle, the victor to have the honour of facing the champion Jersey Knight on 4th May this year. The four Knights arrived at Seven of the clock with their trusty lances (cues as they are called in modern times), looking resplendent and ready for the evenings event. The Jedi Knight (Bob Le Moignan) drew straws to decide the order of battle. The first Joust was between Sir Bob of the Wall and Sir Ian the Pretender Champ. The Pretender started off badly - perhaps his battle against Sir Trevor had taken all the stamina away from him ? The battle was tense, however at the half way stage Sir Bob held a narrow lead of 6,280 points against 5,860. Sir Bob charged first in the second Joust, his trusty lance scoring well, as it had in his previous matches, Sir Bob being the second highest points scorer this season and on a run of recent superb form. Sir Ian tried to fight back, but the writing was on the WALL and Sir Bob galloped through with 15,430 to 10,120, Sir Ian conceding just before the bar dropped.
Next up was the contest between Sir Tom the Watchman and Sir Paul from the Dyerland. Sir Tom had the most tournament wins this fall, however Sir Paul did not let this record phase him, and strode onto the battle field with confidence. Sir Tom charged first but was not at his best, Sir Paul gaining the advantage and winning the first by 7,470 to 4,040. Some impressive points scoring in the second joust saw the new Grandad Sir Paul winning through to yet another final, a title that still eluded him, despite his many appearances on the battlefield.
There was then another tournament to decide the winner of - The Knights Pairs Final. This was to be contested between Sir Trevor and his companion 'The Wizard of Ozzy' and King Kenny and his Page Roy o' the West. Sir Trevor and The Wizard were previous Pairs Champions, but the vastly experienced King, with a record of now 50 years of jousting under his suit of armour, having started when he was just 16, and his Page with almost the same record were not going to give up without a fierce fight. The battle went all the way to its full length, with four charges. At one stage it looked like The King and his Page held the advantage, going into the final leg with a 2-1 lead and a points advantage. However Sir Trevor was not going to leave the stage without any spoils, and quickly regained the points advantage and a win on the final joust, still smarting from his elimination in the singles. Sir Trevor and his Wizard were declared the winners on aggregate.
During the interval sustenance in the form of a mini feast was served to the hungry Knights and their supporters by Lady Cindy, who had just returned from a Crusade abroad.
And now to the Maine Event of the evening, long after the sun had set and the midnight hour approached. Sir Paul of the Dyerland, the new Champ Pretender who had narrowly lost the final on six occasions, versus Sir Bob of the Wall, a veteran previous winner and Channel Islands Champion, who was the second highest points scorer out of all the Guernsey Knights this season. Sir Paul charged first and made a slow but steady start, opening with just over 4,000. Sir Bob now had a chance, but failed to gain the advantage, handing back the break to Sir Paul. The man from the Dyerland began to prove why he was the peoples champion, scoring well and flowing in his quick style way. Then disaster - The crowd gasped - was there trickery in the air ? did the Wizard work some magic ? or was it witchcraft ? Sir Paul knocked the white jousting pole over, loosing his score, over 6,000, and he and most of the crowd thought that it may not be his lucky year again. But in the second joust, Sir Paul regained his composure,'Obviously', the veteran Sir Bob not being able to repeat his previous high scoring form shown recently. Sir Paul scored a break of 10,050 in the second leg, with Sir Bob conceding. A good tournament - congratulations to all the competitors.
A popular winner, Sir Paul will now meet with the champion Jersey Knight on Saturday 4th May, to decide the champion Knight of the Channel Islands. The Knights and common people of Sarnia will also next month welcome the Knights of Olde England and the Knights of Caesarea at a Grande Jousting tournament to be held at The Rocquettes, in the capital towne of Sarnia, Saint Peter's Port.

Sir Paul scored a break of 10,050 in the second leg, with Sir Bob conceding. Impressive deciding break from Sir Paul - fuelled by copious amounts of mead, no doubt. ;) ;D There was evidence that Sir Bob's teammates were trying to increase the mead allowance for young Sir Paul, to try and sway him from his task, buying him drinks all evening however their attempts to sabotage that evening failed, due to his hollow legs and years of experience coping with such distractions ::)
