Horsham v Worthing C cancelled Sat by Horsham. Am trying to arrange date as I go on holiday first thing Monday and back officially the following Monday. With being last game it could impact on league and Sussex Masters so not sure of time scales allowed for replaying. TJ

Horsham v Worthing C cancelled Sat by Horsham. Am trying to arrange date as I go on holiday first thing Monday and back officially the following Monday. With being last game it could impact on league and Sussex Masters so not sure of time scales allowed for replaying. TJ My understanding of it was that ALL matches had to be completed by the date of the Final Series..... ::) But, since it is a game in the Final Series that is being cancelled, perhaps the rules are different..... ??? ??? Another one for Dave Jones to sort out..... as pointed out by TJ this will definitely affect the Final Division 2 Table and could result in 3 (or more) players missing out on a place in the Sussex Masters....... :'( :'( :'(

Surely, with other teams bending over backwards to comply with the rule amendment introduced at last AGM, this match cannot now be played ?

prehaps they aren't aware of the rule changes. I have just spoken to a member of the team & he is going to contact the Horsham Captain.

Surely, with other teams bending over backwards to comply with the rule amendment introduced at last AGM, this match cannot now be played ? Having read the rule, there is no mention of an extension in the event that it is a match in the Final Series that is cancelled...... :( If the match is awarded 7-0, Littlehampton will be champions and gain promotion to Division 1 irrespective of the result of their match tonight, Horsham will be runners-up and Worthing C will be 3rd and the Mid-Sussex A v Brighton B game will be almost meaningless...... >:( With regards to Masters places, the top 19 players are assured of a place (although not their position) at the Sussex Masters, however 9 players are still in with a chance of making the final 5 places....... 8-) Three of those (Tony Jenner, Dave Jones & Rick Cunningham) play for Worthing C and Peter Gibbs plays for Horsham..... ::) If their match is cancelled and the other players that are in contention, who are Terry Molloy & Sandra Race (both Brighton B), Henry Brooks (Mid-Sussex A), Gareth Lloyd (Brighton A) and Martin Smith (Worthing A) all win, then Dave Jones and Rick Cunningham would both drop out of the automatic qualification places they are currently in. :'( >:(

I realise the rules and did part that knowledge to Vern, league wise it is of no real consequence to us but does hand Littlehampton the league. My concern is that Worthing players will be penalised their ranking points through no fault of their own.

ok. I have found out that the match was postponed for a legitimate & valid reason.
The roffey club hold regular quiz nights & is very popular, & it just so happens that this clashes with the Interleague fixture tonight.
It can't be played tommorow night as several members from the Horsham side are involved in the play off between the 2 Roffey sides in the Billingshurst league to ecide who is League champions.
As has been said there isn't a wording to the rule that covers potponement in the last series.
We should not jump in too quickly but let Dave Jones & the Sussex committee decide the outcome.

Having looked at the rule since my earlier post Ian, it looks pretty clear to me..... ::) 9. Any games cancelled between series 1 & 5 must be re-arranged before the start of series 6. Any games cancelled between series 6 onwards must be re-arranged before the last series of matches'. Surely, they must have known about the quiz night and could have tried to make arrangements to play the match on another night before the cut-off date...... alternatively, surely the quiz night will not affect BOTH tables (in different rooms) at the Roffey Club....... ???

Having just had a phone call from the Horsham captain i said they could play it next sunday and if necessary would speak to the committee. WHY
1. Im fed (polite) up with people giving out my number as the first point of contact when theres a problem. Yes im on the committee but as treasurer. Surely a phonecall to the fixture sec, chairman or secretary should be contacted before me.
2. Masters points. The masters is the 6th June plenty of time for ranking points to be updated and players contacted.
3. Bar billiards is not a professional sport and the state of the game at the moment surely we should be trying to help out not alienating people.
4. If the committee dont agree with my decision then fine but somebody had to make that decision quickly.
Not going to say anymore as this is now a committee decision and people are too quick to talk about things publicly on this board.

We have arranged to play this next Sunday and will go ahead and play it whatever the league give the result as. It is a fixture and we are going to fulfill it even if it only counts as a friendly. Still think it is wrong if Worthing players are penalised as far as Masters go as we were only notified yesterday. That is now the end of the matter as the teams want to fulfill the fixture whatever.

A weekend of bar billiards doesn't get much better than this as an experience.................The excellent Mid Sussex Masters yesterday, and today Redhill's 3-County Tour: Long drives through beautiful countryside in warm sunshine, two great pubs, great company, two great tables and we were well looked after with firstly a Sunday roast at the Bridge and finally to cap the evening off, the tasty corned beef hash at the Imperial. :P :-* :P :-*

Congratulations also to Littlehampton for winning Division 2 in the last match in style and securing a quick return to the top flight.

Skipper Dave invited me to play in the last interleague of the season for Littlehampton. Regardless of what Horsham did a win for the home team against Redhill would see L/A promoted.
Fantastic performance by the L/A players first Paul Olver, then Dave Hampton, Jason and Dave Simmonds got the fist four games and the required victory. I went on 5th a bit nervous about playing again but I needn't have been as Keith Wilkinson played a great game going off with 7k I had a brief number of shots before Keith devoured the rest of the table time but pegged shortly before the bar. So no need to be worried at all ::)my contribution was about 30 seconds.
The last two games also went to L/A, Hayley played an excellent game to come back against the break- great to see ansd finally Simon did the same in the last to give Littlehampton a 6-1 victory and put the icing on a great season.
Well done team. 8-)

As promised, the scores from last night - Interesting table :o, after a few irons, it caught one or two players out, including the home side.
Mario 8,620 v 2,660 Neil Higgins - Steve certainly didn`t look comfortable with the table, coming off under 1k. The balls went up the top for a while until Steve got them back and made a winning break. 1 - 0
Gareth 4,000 v 10,100 Barry Holt - Once Barry got the pace sorted, he opened with enough. Gareth eventually finished the game off. 1 - 1
Richard 780 v 12,130 Ian Lelliott - Ian broke down quite early but Richard couldn`t clear the balls. Ian then made a steady 9k+ break to put us ahead. 1 - 2
Tupps 5,040 v 5,770 Tony Lewis - This turned out to be the crunch game. A couple of breaks each, but Tony was on the table when the bar dropped and did enough to beat previously unbeaten Chris 9/9 to put us in a strong position. 1 - 3
Nige 9,220 v 4,560 Roger Taylor - Dipper was off early and Nige made a couple of breaks to give Roger no chance although he came back with about 4k. 2 - 3
Mr Reaper 1,900 v 12,700 Sir kt - The scores don`t tell the full story. I was off on 1200 when i put too much side on a split shot and came off. Kev got them back straight away and caught up but then missed. He then got them back a second time only to thin a break and come off up the top. I managed to clear the next time and touched on at 9k, giving us the win. ;D 2 - 4
Dave Reeves 11,480 v 550 Martin Smith - Dave opened with 5k and added another 5k+ to close the match out. 3 - 4
Commiserations to Brighton, a great competitive season. Two runners up for us last year but one better in both this. ;)
Congrats to Littlehampton on their title (look forward to playing you next year) ;) Well done my Hunny :-* ,great win.

Brighton C 3 Mid sussex B 4
both teams went into the match knowing a win could give them the title
Steve Burns 5890 Ian Giffen 2930 Mick Pope 2740 Rob Hall 6390 Sheena Wood 1400 Paul Jobbins 5790 Chris Elliot BP Adam Bateup 5490 Bob Mehan 1940 Darrell Skinner 5190 Brian Muggeridge 7950 Ros Appleby 1360 Steve Hurley 8460 Paul Moyes-Robb 570
We needed to win 5-2 or better to snatch the title but over at Redhill Billinshurst also won 4-3 & took it by just 1 leg. So for the 2nd season we are Runner up.
A massive well done to the team we all have gone out & enjoyed the Season in the spirit that Q handed over to me. We have some new members to the Squad & the team spirit is fantastic & I know we will fight as hard to see if we can get to the top step next time.
Congratulations to all the Billingshurst team enjoy Div 2 next year. ;D ;D
Unlucky to Brighton C thanks for a great evening, good spirits all round.
