Congratulations to Pauline Withey and Steven Sheard on their victory in the Mixed Pairs today, beating Hayley and Kevin Tunstall in the Final.... Jenny and Stuart Florey and Sandra and Kevin Hall were the losing semi-finalists.
Ian Lelliott won the Over 60's title (clearly he has aged a lot in the last year after winning the Over 50's last year! ;D) beating Stuart Florey in the Final and Ian also won the High Break Award with a 19.5k table play-out in the semi-final to chase down Tony Martin's challenging target of 17.9k in the best game of the day. 8-)
There were also some high-scoring games in the Over 50's with Chris Saville having a 15k+ table play-out in the semi-final (to beat Bill Kerr's 13k lead) while Dave Ingram also reached the final with a play-out of 16,510 to overhaul Dave Constable's 11k lead from the first leg. Chris continued his good form in the final with another play-out of 15,390... and then kept his nerve well when Dave broke down on 15,230 in reply to score 400 at the end to seal his victory. 8-)
Terry Molloy won the high break award in the Over 50's with a 16,560 play-out in the first game of the day, although Tony Jenner did gain his revenge by beating Terry in the Over 60's Competition.... ;D
A big thank you to Dave Alder and Janet for all of their hard work running the event.... also to Chris Saville for re-conditioning the tables recently, they all played superbly. ;D ;D ;D

Excellent day again at Reading, with a hiugh standard of billiards played. Well done to the admin desk, with havinmg to keep things moving and organise three well supported events on one day.
Well done to all the victors and unlucky to losing finalists. Reading PO for hosting us, and all those that helped Dave set up the tables and dismantle them at the end of a long day, once again we see how much we owe Dave for his sterling worr. Special mention goes to Chris Saville for all his hard work on the tables and this shows in the excellent set of tables we are presented with at events now.

Thanks for the reports guys, and what a great day's play from the sound of it.
Well done to the victors - and to the narrow runners-up !
Our great leader once again a National Champion, winning the "younger old codgers" competition. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks guys, one hell of a long day for me, leaving home with the Jock table at 0715hrs and getting back at 2330hrs. Spare a thought for Dave and Sam who were there with a few others when I arrived at 0930hrs and were still there, totally on their own, at 2115hrs when I left after the three of us finished dismantling the last of the tables. There has to be more volunteers helping for half an hour at the end of these comps or they will not take place sooner or later. Credit also goes to Phil Hawkins as, no matter how much work I did on the tables, they still have to be set up properly and Phil did a superb job.
Well done to the organisers and am very pleased that my eyes are stable enough now to play billiards nearly as well as I used to. Winning the Over The Hill after a 100% record at the intercounties has been a welcome return to form after much frustration. Bad luck Dave my worthy oponent in the final, tremendous reply to my break only to see an unlucky bounce at the critical moment.
What a cracking semi in the over 60's with Tony Martin hitting the highest break of the day with 17950 only to see Ian Lelliott surpass it and keeping his head when the balls got stuck in the trap during his reply! That was on the previously dreaded table number one!!
Nice to see some younger faces in the mixed pairs as well and some of the lasses played very well. I think it was in the semi between the Floreys and Steven/Pauline that the lads never got a shot!!
Sav.

Nice to see some younger faces in the mixed pairs as well and some of the lasses played very well. I think it was in the semi between the Floreys and Steven/Pauline that the lads never got a shot! This was a tremendous game, which I had the grandstand (scorers!) seat at. Pauline opened with 6.5k and Jenny played the remainder of the table out for a 4.8k reply. Jenny then had the next break and was travelling really well at 4.5k, when the bounce off the side cushion caught her out and sadly the score was lost. Pauline then cleared and was on about 6.3k, when the Floreys conceded. Well played to both ladies. Steven and Stuart just sat in their chairs watching for 40 minutes! (All scores from memory) The tables were a pleasure to play on and encouraged good play. Thanks to Dave, Janet, Phil, the Brittons, Sav and all others who helped to run the day.
