Dave Ingram/Colleen Park (Fish) v Paul & Lynne Moyes-Robb (Brewers) at Plough Games to be played by Sunday January 20th. This game has now been re-scheduled to be played on Thursday 31st Janaury. Unfortunately, I have to advise of a very unhappy story about this match.... >:( Having initially contacted our opponents shortly after the draw was announced.... 3 months ago.... we were asked by them to "leave it until after Christmas" to arrange the game, which we were happy to do. ;) We subsequently made contact with them and offered them numerous possible dates (I think it was about 10 possibilites that I sent to them, maybe more?) that we could play the match but, on each occasion, were informed that they were not suitable due to their "other commitments". ::) Eventually, the date for this Thursday was agreed and the Competition Secretary kindly allowed an extension to the closing date. 8-) Sadly we are now unable to play the match as Colleen's shifts at work have changed at very short notice (yesterday evening) due to a major staffing problem which means that she will have to work until 10pm. :'( Mindful of all of the problems we had trying to arrange the game to start with, I contacted the Competition Secretary to inform him what had happened and he kindly offered to speak to our opponents and ask them to re-arrange it. I emailed him EIGHT different dates that we could have played them.... however they told him that none were suitable (ironically due to their work commitments! ::)) and that as we had cancelled the arranged date that they wished to claim the game! :o >:( I do not dispute their RIGHT to claim the game as we did cancel it and it was already past the "play by date".... I do not doubt that the latest dates that we offered were "not suitable" (simply because it had proved so awkward to arrange to start with).... and for those reasons I have advised the Competition Secretary that we will concede the match rather than take the matter to the League Committee. But the whole has left a very bad taste in my mouth and is something that I would never do to an opponent as I do not believe that it is in the spirit of the game. >:( >:( >:( Probably best I leave it at that.... apart from saying I shall look forward to playing them somewhere, sometime in the future. :-X :-X :-X
