Agreed that because of the latest time constraints, any tie-break would have to be quick and slick - maybe even a one-shot playoff, but Carl will have to decide.
And I rather think that we are under-estimating Carl's organisational abilities here, he has staged annual one-day competitions for his own league for the past three years - albeit on a lesser scale. I just hope that running a separate Plate won't cause too many complications.
The challenge here is keeping three distinctly separate factions happy - two factions who won't be used to the dimensions of the AEBBA tables, and the third: us 3-pinners who largely won't have an earthly what we're doing. ;D ;D ;D

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the tables will be supplied by AEBBA so hopefully someone knows what sort of timers they have, if they are electronic and you need to disconnect the battery doesn't that mean you have to lift the table top :( Let's hope that we don't have the situation where we need a shoot out, but I bet that bloke "Sod" and his law will come into play The tables run around 17mins. At most opens, a 3-minute timed break will decide a tied game, but not sure if this is appropriate for these rules?

I'm sure Carl has it all under control, but we have to make sure we give him a headache when he gets back from his hols ;) :)
The size of the table shouldn't be a problem for four pinners, we at least the Sudbury Gang as we have all sorts and sizes of table in our league and as for you 3 pin guys n gals, the angels will still be the same, its just the break shot thats harder.
hmmmmm I'm just wondering, if we are using mushrooms and not pegs maybe the size of the table could be a problem. When you come of the side cushion for the 100 shot how close is the ball to the 50 hole? it maybe that if we are using mushrooms we will need to be careful how they are placed into the 50 holes for the last shot as obviously the diameter of the top of the mushroom is larger than the hole (to stop it dropping right through :P ) and therefore it will overhang the hole and may be in the way of a straight forward off the side cushion into the 100.
lol I think maybe I am now over complicating the whole thing

lol, you can extract the urine as much as you want now because there is a strong possibility I wont be there :( . I had an accident in October last year where my right shoulder was injured (NO fault of my own) I've been having physiotherapy ever since but the shoulder is not responding and now I have just been told to rest it as much as possible. I may even be the first person to drop out because of injury, Fingers crossed I'll still be there as I don't plan on getting past the first round so I see it as my shoulder will get plenty of rest, I mean even I can lift a pint with my left hand :P

Sorry to hear you might not attend, was looking forward to meeting you. Besides, fully fit you would have stated as one of the favourites to win the competition.
Let's hope the angels can do a good job on your shoulder between now and then. ;)

well I still intend to be there, but honestly just playing two games on our league night is enough for me, after that its plenty of beer instead of pain killers. Still I was banking on going out in the first round so that would mean only two games anyway :)
I think I need Angels coming from all angles to help my shoulder along,I'm dam sure the woman doing my Physio takes great pleasure in seeing me in pain

do you think Carl has made his fortune and forgotten about us people.
By the way i was finking, as I sometimes do, about the scores being level and having to have a 200 shot play off or something similar,as us 4 pinners have an extra peg we use one less ball, only six whites and one red compared with your 7 whites, therefore each table should have one spare white that will be removed and can be used if a final ball shoot off is required. So all my worrying about having to reset the bar if a last ball was required are all history now

Hello all!!!!
I'm back and ready to answer all questions!! Since my trip to Sin City, I have been totally manic with work, things went pear shaped whilst I was away so had to get it all sorted before I could concentrate on anything else, but alas! all sorted now!
Didn't manage to make my fortune unfortunately but did win a poker tournament on my birthday so I was happy with that! ;D
So I see you've been all talking about the Open, great to see! I'm getting very excited about it all now! Right, to business then, I'll try to answer all questions that you've been asking....
1. DaveUk1 - Regarding the scores being level after 2 Legs (although this is very unlikely) did I just say that? Oh, now I've done it... We will do the last ball shootout like this... We have a drawn game. First person who pots the ball, whether White or Red, wins the game, and either 200 or 400 points are added to his/her score (100 or 200 if the final ball is potted into the 100 hole) If in the event that the Black peg is knocked over AND the ball goes down the hole, then that is just unlucky and the Player who knocked it over, loses his score and loses the match. Hope that clears that one up, but as I say, this is very unlikely to happen anyway. Also, not really a problem regarding spare balls as Dave quite rightly says, we play with 6 whites not 7 so there will be 8 spare white balls to choose from.
2. Milko - Regarding the last ball and knocking the white/black peg over. If on the last ball, the 100 peg is knocked over, your break is wiped for the foul (same as normal) play is carried on until the last ball is potted, yes. If the Black peg is knocked over your whole score is wiped (same as normal) BUT as we are playing 2 legs you may need as many points as possible to win that game for the 2 legs, so play carries on until the last ball is potted (unless of corse this is impossible to achieve if you are playing the 2nd of your legs)
3. DaveUK1 - Regarding the Mushroom in the 50 hole being in the way on the final shot. This isn't a problem the ball goes no where near the 50 mushroom when it is played correctly, and if the ball hits the mushroom on the final shot, its a foul anyway.
4. DaveUK1 - How is 1p5wich Town getting on??? ;D
Hope that answers all questions, but as I say, please let me know of anything you're unsure of.
Many Thanks
Carl

Welcome back Carl.
Did I hear someone mention a poker tournament :)
I hope all those three pinners realize on the last ball shot we still have a peg standing infront of the 100 hole :P
Is the start time still 11am or have to managed to get the weight watchers to start earlier and what about setting the tables up?
lol Sorry I know you've been busy but I just like to ask questions

I hope all those three pinners realize on the last ball shot we still have a peg standing infront of the 100 hole :P We do and I should imagine that it would be easier to get the last ball shot in the 200 hole rather than the 100 hole because of the angle coming off of the cushion! milko

Welcome back from me too, Carl.
Have you spoken to the vicar yet about the rear car park ?
I suppose as the google earth imagery was in 2006 it may have been built on by now.

lol, 4 pins games are a lot closer and I would say in a league match at least one game out of the seven comes down to the last ball, thats why I was a little concerned about scores being level

Just a quick update, the car park is not owned by St Mary Magdelane Church, but by a shoe factory nearby. But I have meeting with the factory owners on Monday to see what I can do to persuade them to let us borrow the car park for the day/evening. Anyone want to buy a bucket load of shoes??? ;)
Also I have a meeting with Weight Watchers tomorrow with regard to setting up the tables on the Friday before the Tournament and start times etc.
So hopefully by early next week I should have some updates to come.... Fingers Crossed!! :)

Just a quickie! Ive updated the list of entries for the 'Open' here barbilliards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nonaffiliated&action=display&thread=13927Please have a look as I have written other stuff on there too. Regarding the tables and when we can take them into the hall, I have spoken to the Weight Watchers Group, after a bit of sweet talking and a sneaky bit of cake, they are more than happy for us to take them in and set them up whenever we want on the Friday, just the car parking issue to try and sort out, then it's all systems go! I'll update that one as soon as I find anything out Carl ;D

Hi Carl, I have made a note to myself to bring along three sets. Two are the proper mushroom sets, the third one is actually plastic pins, but with a fourth red pin.

Thanks Tommo, that would help out a lot, if anyone else can let me know if you can bring some that would be great! Ok, Car Parking. I have spoken to the Van Dal Shoe factory who owns the Car Park, they are kindly letting us use it for the duration of the Tournament (and overnight). It's not the one I was hoping for, but its a car park non the less. I have attached a google maps photo showing which one we can use. It has around 25 spaces in it but the shoe factory is open during the day so if you could try and plan in good time that would be great. There are 10 Parking spaces outside the Venue itself too so we should have plenty of spaces. Hope this helps everyone! As always, message me if you need anything else Carl Attachments:

Ok guys, bit of an odd question, but ive been asked by the landlords of the pubs who are doing the bar. They are mostly Real Ale pubs and the majority of the beer will be that and Cider, but how many that are coming are Ale drinkers? Obviously dont want to bring too much but then certainly dont want to bring not enough! As a gauge, what has been the norm at other tournaments? Ale? Lager? Wine? Shorts? There will be teas and coffees etc there aswell but just want to know how many will be drinking? I mean when we play, our guys are big drinkers but obviously not unruley, just good fun. Any advice would be very grateful. Thanks
