To save time at the future AEBBA AGM's and to introduce proper accounting practices to the AEBBA accounts, I would request one or preferably two volunteers to act as independent examiners (formerly called auditors).
The sole duty would be to meet with me on the morning of the AEBBA AGM at the Reading Club before lunch. The examiners would then scrutinise my accounts in the finest detail.
No accounting experience is necessary, just common sense and the ability to compare bank statements with deposits, BACS deposits, cheque book stubbs and petty cash vouchers and not to be frightened to ask me whatever awkward questions they wish.
It should only take around an hour as the accounts are not that busy or complicated.
If a couple of volunteers could be found before Bournemouth I will happily sit and describe the way I am setting things up this year. I will quite happily listen to advice as I have audited many sets of accounts but have never been a Treasurer myself before.

Hi Sav,
I will happily volunteer my services for this if you want, I run a vehicle leasing company and I am used to looking at accounts for companies to get finance approved for them and I have audited accounts for private organisations in the past as I hold a Full Consumer Credit Licence. ;)
Happy to have a chat with you at Bournemouth about it, as you say it should be a fairly simple thing to get everything in and I would have thought that all you should need is something Excel Spreadsheets for Income and Expenditure and a Balance Sheet to check against receipts and cheques issued during each financial year.

Many thanks David, I can think of no one likely to give me a harder time! ;D ;D ;D
I'll have a chat Thursday lunchtime and show you what I have set up so far, time allowing over coffee.
Any other volunteer please or is the association happy with one independent examiner?
Chris Saville, AEBBA Treasurer.

I think one person who knows what he's doing is better than ten people who don't! Well done Dave. ;D ;D
