That's a great find, Squire Richard, and thank you.
I would like to see the Secretary of the All-England Association dash off a letter to the two pubs involved, offering them our support in any way possible.
If the Forum's publicity poster were to be enclosed, it may also prompt a couple more valued memberships.

There is an email address on the article....
To sign up to the league or for more information, email yorkbarbilliards@gmail.com or tweet @yorkbarbilliard or leave your name and phone number behind the bar of either pub.
I have now sent them an email giving them details of the National Tournaments that are due to be played this year and saying that we would welcome them to join the Forum. 8-)

Tony (Barbelman) if you're reading this can you make the two York venues mentioned "white peg" on the AEBBA map in recognition of the new League being formed ?
Cheers, tommo 8-)

Recent developments from the York Bar Billiards facebook: It's good to know that a new League has started and is clearly being enjoyed in Yorkshire.... .... however they have shown no interest (so far) in either joining the Forum or becoming part of the national game and getting involved in with either Tournaments or becoming members of AEBBA. I did send an email to the contact address shown several months ago giving them some information about the forum and the national game, but received no response..... so perhaps they are happy to carry on using Facebook exactly as they are and we should just leave them to it?

Quite agree Dave, there's a saying: "you can take a horse to water, but you can't necessarily make him drink"All you and I can do is fulfil our self-appointed duties that we do best, me scouring the countryside for evidence and you trying to whip up some interest with eMails etc.

The picture in the paper shows the landlord playing on the new table at the Fulford Arms.... .... which does make me wonder why you want.... Can I just ask, then, that the header of the thread 'York' under 'Rest of the UK' be changed to 'York 4-Pin' or something else suitable ? The reason for my request is that there are two other threads on bar billiards in Yorkshire under the same section and it would be nice to keep that one separate from the others in case people try to add to the 'wrong' one. .... when it seems that they actually play the 3-pin version of the game in York!!

Well spotted Warrior, however this is only breaking news learnt of today. The reason why I pigeon-holed York as a 4-Pin was due to the photo on this link page: .....which actually quotes "league match" and clearly shows it as 4-Pin. I do accept, though, that conflicting signals are being given from Yorks, but as you suggested in your earlier post, best to let them get on with it.

HI there, thanks so much for noticing the league we've been running in York. we've been going over a year now, initially with two teams and more recently three...soon to be four. With the (admittedly minor expansion) we've put together a website to coordinate dates and publicise etc. I'm not sure if anyone else will be posting on here in the near future but i thought it was worth signing up to see if anyone in the region fancies a game. the website is www.yorkbarbilliards.com and we can be also easily found on Facebook and twitter. if there's anyone nearby fancies a game please say hi! Ben

Hi Ben and welcome to the Forum. You have definitely come to the right place ! Your league in York is the newest in the country, and we have been speculating as to which version of the game you play: 3-Pin or 4-mushroom........from the gallery on your excellent website it is now apparent that you have chosen the more traditional 3-Pin.
You are also the northernmost league in the country. There was once a South Yorks league based around Doncaster that took part at National level, but sadly that disbanded about twenty years ago when all the hired tables were withdrawn and returned to Sussex. We still talk about the coverage on TV from those heady days in the form of Yorkshire TV's Indoor League starring Freddie Trueman.
Keep in touch, and it will be great for us to observe you expanding and thriving, as happened with the previous newly formed league (Norwich).

Lovely to see a representative from your league on here, I was in York back in January for a couple of days and sorely wanted to pop into one of 'your' pubs, unfortunately my (non BB friendly) wife wasn't so keen, but if I get up again I will make a point of persuading her that you're a great bunch and she REALLY should meet you

Thanks for all the comments guys, really appreciated. not least for suggesting we're youngish! (anything from early twenties upwards actually). i'll keep popping bits and bobs on here and the site should be updated every couple of weeks. I noticed a article about a couple of pubs in sheffield with tables who're trying to get something going so i've dropped them an email to see if they need any advice, be nice to pop by for a game but too far to go regularly. q - sorry not to have posted this earlier so we could have caught up. hope you had a nice time in york!

Thanks for posting Joe (we're planning tomorrow for next league, be great if you're able to get a team together. just give me a shout). In more exciting news we now have a second table in the Fulford Arms who are propose quick fire tournaments taking place on one day. We're also welcoming a new team from the Knavesmire who christened their table with a singles tournament last friday night, a tremendous evening even if a player from the 'ball won. We've also been in touch with some guys from sheffield who hope to head up later in the year for a billiards crawl AND hopefully we'll have news of another team from the uni *cough*joe*cough* shortly so things are really moving in the north!
