Listen, we all like a drink and may not have fulfilled our true potential - but to label us all 'drop out' is a tad harsh!! Haha!

Hi, can anyone confirm which Ron has dropped out. I've noted Enzo's withdrawl. Also, who is the DA-DM that will be around on the day? We do have reserves so all matches should take place. Can I remind last years trophy winners to bring the shields along (Keith, KT and Kevin Hall), cheers

Tremendous competition at Redhill today and congratulations to Curt Driver for winning the Surrey Open, beating Pete Sainsbury in the final. ;)
Plenty of early shock results saw many of the pre-competition favorites (including Kevin Tunstall, Nigel Senior, Jim Millward) knocked out in the first round although the tables were playing superbly with more than 50 breaks of more than 10k made on the day, with four 20k plus breaks also made. 8-)
This was the quarter-final line up....
Curt Driver beat Dave Constable Simon Coleman lost to Geoff Jukes Dave Ingram lost to Paul Sainsbury (Paul's 21k chasing down my 19k+) Pauline Withey lost to Pete Sainsbury
Semi-Finals.... Curt beat Geoff Paul lost to Pete in a very close finish on (tricky) Table 8
In the final itself, Pete unfortunatly lost his opening break and gave Curt the break... Curt was quick to take advantage with a 16k plus break leaving him only to make a fairly modest opening break in the second leg to secure the win. ;)
Pauline Withey won the awards for furthest lady and Ladies Highest Break (9,830) and Gareth Lloyd won the Mens Highest Break with his 22k plus made in the First Round.
Nigel Senior won the Plate Competition beating Damian Coates in the Final with Jim Greensted and Jason Wadsworth the losing semi-finalists.... perhaps the only disappointing thing about the whole day was the number of players who didn't take part in the Plate after being knocked out in the First Round which meant that in one series of games no less than 7 of the 10 tables had byes on them and left a number of players who wanted to play having to wait around for 5-6 hours for their next game..... ::) ....not the fault of the organisers at all but pretty unfair as I am sure that the players who left without taking part in the Plate would have stayed and played in the Main Competition! :-X
A big thank you to everybody involved in organising and running the competition.... to Ian Gordon for delivering the tables down.... Colin Robbins for his usual excellent food and for running the bar.... and especially to Dave & Caroline Jones who did a superb job on the Admin Desk. 8-)

As a person who rarely plays in the plate, I have to disagree with you Dave, I do though feel that it is a topic that needs some 'air' time,
It is possible to do something about the plate issue and there are a number of things that could be done.
I do not want to distract from what was obviously an excellent competition and therefore maybe a new thread for this topic would be appropriate.

I would like to add my thanks to the organisers for an extremely well run and very enjoyable day. Well done to Curt for taking the title and to all the other players that progressed far in the competition.
I had a great time catching up with people, especially Sav who I personally and more importantly all of us owe a great deal too. All the tables were outstanding on the day and a joy to play on. I was delighted to win 3 games and only narrowly miss out on a place in the last 8 given my recent terrible form!
Anyway, once again well done to all involved, especially the organisers. Barring retirement please feel free to put me down for next year already.

Congratulations to the mighty Curt, that's two Opens on the bounce. Don't discount him from winning the Off-the-Spot next month which would represent the Triple Crown of game variants ! Congrats also to runner-up Pete S.
Well done to DC and Jukesey for their great runs in the competition, and also to Auntie Pauline. The tables all looked superb and very fast, and there were some awesome performances
My apologies to all, Milhouse especially, in my having to shoot off early. Very unlike me and must have appeared very rude.
A special nod to Colin who had his work cut out running the kitchen as well as 'bar', at times demand appeared to be exceeding supply !
Excellent write-ups from Warrior of the whole weekend's events up in Merstham. 8-)

A big thank you to everybody involved in organising and running the competition.... to Ian Gordon for delivering the tables down.... Thanks Dave. I'm glad some people appreciate the hard work that Dave and now myself do into getting the tables to the venues and then packing them away at the end of a tournament. The comment that was made to Mark Trafford at the end from a player in the top 10 was a bit uncalled for and has seriously annoyed me >:( :-X but apart from that I think it went smoothly for my first major tournament. Thanks to all the organisers for a well run day. Ian

Yes excellent well run day and think may get sack from scoring for Dave as I have now scored three games where he has done a personalbeat and each time his opponents have beaten him!!!
Great tables and venue, some memorable games and plenty of banter, well done to all those who progressed and especially to the winners, and organisers.
Just to echo the thanks to all those who woek hard to get the tables there, set up and then again to those who work hard to get the tables back safely.

Try doing the job yourself then Pete and lets see how funny you find those types of comments! Getting knocked out of the comp at 2.30pm then having to wait until 9pm to take all the tables down, while everyone is sat there watching just a few people doing the work and making unfunny comments to those VOLUNTEERS who are giving up their spare time to making sure these competitions have a future. Then loading them into the van before a further 2 hour drive home! No, i don't think the comment was at all funny and anyone who knows me will know i have a great sense of humour! >:( >:(

3 days and no response to my last comment, why am i not surprised ::) ::) :-/ :-/ :-/ Mark I was giving you the chance to correct it. 1) I did not say you had not got a sense of humour, it is clear to all you have, as demonstrated by those fancy dress white and blue shirts you wear on occasions 2) The key word here is volunteer, firstly when you volunteered you knew you would be there until about 9.00 and secondly if you do volunteer it is not good form to then moan about it. 3) I take your point about doing something for bar billiards and will have a think and see if I can give up some of my spare time to give competitions a future or do something for the good of the game. 4) I don't exactly know what you mean about people sitting around watching, when we pack the tables at the Kent open everyone has gone home. (probably because we are on the far reaches of the bar billiards world) 5) You can say what you like but it was a brilliant joke/comment, pity it was not made to milko that would have been better. Regards Pete S Oh and by the way, the spread sheet we use at the Kent classic was done by Nigel, before you try and take credit for that as well.
