Managed to log in okay, the layout looks a bit strange in comparison to the current forum but I'm sure it will be easy enough once we get used to it. ;)
Keep up the good work Sav.... 8-)

Logged in fine,
I'm of the opposite end to Chris as I think ProBoards has been long, long overdue an upgrade. There's a noticeable speed increase right off the bat, so I guess these 60,000 lines of code they have added has severed it's purpose. I'll be interested to try it in different browsers.
Mainly positive so far, although I'm surprised the page doesn't render to fit larger screen sizes.
Sav, am I right in reading that you have access to some of the HTML and CSS code of the forum? If so that presents interesting possibilities.....

There is access to the headers and footers as in the old version. There are also plug-ins we can use, but the coding is not compatible with the old forum.
We are moving because we have no choice, the old forum will be closed and converted by Proboards later in the year in the middle of the new season, better we do it shortly during the close season for most leagues when things are quieter.

Just an observation, really:
On Version Five, even if you have chosen EyeEase or Glenn2 as your background (Skin), it defaults to Chubbskin and you will have to re-set to your choice over again.
On the current version I actually prefer the green background (Profile/Select Skin/Chubbskin).
However, on Version Five, I have found the green background too busy, and once I changed to Glenn2, the grey background brought the new forum into focus with remarkable clarity.
It's all a matter of personal choice of course, but my recommendation for Ver.5 is (amend Profile/Forum theme/Glenn2).
Would be interested to know what others think ?

A question......
I have had a dabble to see how a scorecard encased in boxes would work on Version 5. On examples prepared in such a way the columns are arranged nicely, but the boxes have completely disappeared.
I have then tried to quote the post and add lines myself but couldn't. However there is a different set of "tags" available for use, including one called "add table".
I tried this but it wiped the entire scorecard !
So will there be something like a help screen available on Version 5, or will it just be a case of trial and error as we get used to it ?

Hi Clive,
I'm not sure what has happened here but had spotted this myself. In the earlier test version you could copy a Word table straight into the V5 forum, a big bonus. That does not seem to be working now.
I'll be spending a lot of time on the conversion from Monday.

I'd be really interested to know what "switches" can be flicked to make tables a little easier Sav as there may be something that can be enabled to make everyone life a lot easier.
I've messed around with the BBCode but for some reasons it seems to be slightly "modified" from the standards. (for example, it recognizes /table but not /tbl, and colour backgrounds for cells don;t seem to work at all). It may just be me making silly mistakes of course so don't rule that out, but it doesn't seem "the standard" BBCode if you know what I mean? I would much prefer basic html if that's an option?
But if we could copy word tables, that would be fantastic, especially for match reports and competition draws. For me that would make the conversion worth it on it's own, so do keep us updated when your having a play around next week.

It's weird Glenn but I don't have time to spare to look deeply until Monday when I'm keeping things clear for the week. barbilliardsv5.freemessageboards.com/thread/14226/table-straight-out-wordwas an earlier test version and I pasted these straight out of Word, columns were preserved but it no longer works now and finishes up the muddled mess of the old forum without my additional coding. Further comment following a further dabble........
The Search facility looks more potent on Ver.5. You can now specify separately Who What Where or When for your search. 8-)

The test area for the new version has been down for most of the last week, which has not allowed final checking. It's not convenient to me to put the conversion back due to other commitments in the pipeline so I will be going for it tomorrow and firefighting any problems as I have three quiet days with the management away on a seminar.
Use the non members section for any problems with logging on. Sav

Sav Yeh, that's what the 'angry bear' means. ::) Shame as my last test was going to be to see if it was truly WYSIWYG by trying a copy-and-paste picture. Although I did spot that 3 attachments can be loaded in one go (instead of just one at the moment). 8-)

I believe the proboards forum converter came offline as soon as Sav submitted the the forum on Thursday. Spare a though for the poor guy as this was meant to be done by now and we should all be testing the new version. Instead of that its a waiting game.
Just though I would update anyone who was wondering what is going wrong. Sav must be pulling what hair he has left out lol

The Chubbster is more or less correct in that the forum conversion process has been stalled for ten days, I can get no further info out of Proboards so the banner heading still applies.
If the converter starts up in the next couple of days I will proceed as time is not a problem for the next week, after that things get busier.
The problem is still that we must get the conversion done during the close season, or it will be forced upon us next Christmas when things are in full swing.

The continuing delay in voluntary conversions to V5 is a concern. The search facility has been down for weeks.
I have thus decided to wait until things stabilise, hopefully the conversion can still be done under our control before we are forced to convert next Christmas.
Will advise when things change.

This version is horrible. Very slow to load. Cannot see everything as an advert appears three quarters down my screen. And I have 20 Sav signatures at the bottom of the screen s if the screen is skidding.

Hi Dave,
There were server problems all morning, so I'll need to know if you still have a problem.
I'll need full info on how you are logging on, pc or mobile, mac or windows, browser etc. If you can get me a screen dump of the problem even better.

I am running Mac OS 10.2.8 Firefox 2.0.0.20
It does not do it when I am a guest.
I keep getting a message box which says
Warning. Unresponsive Script. A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop this script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
I realise the Mac I am using is slow while my G5 is going to be repaired. However, with the previous version of proboards I didn't have problems.
I cannot upgrade Firefox as it is the latest the Mac OS I am using will take.

Not all bells and whistles can be converted, please post comments and requests here Sav First impressions: I like the new Version, and I'm sure there are loads of hidden extras which we'll all benefit from when we get used to it. Only things I've spotted are that we've lost our "rapid link into website" facility (in the form of the little house that appeared under the avatars of those who had set it up). And also the members' locations (Sussex, Oxford, Guernsey etc) are no longer displayed, which was sometimes of use as a point of reference. As a general comment, I find the larger Avatars a bit imposing/overbearing. tommo

I notice we no longer have the ability to choose whether we see most recent posts below Sub-Board headings within each Board area. This was a useful function to me, switched ON, so wondered if it is possible to reinstate it ? although not urgent :)
