Re a publicity officer; it requires someone capable of thinking out of the box.
Too much of bar billiards historically has been run by the top players for the top players in my view.
Northants has an excellent mentoring system and fresh approach going and Lorin Clough 'sort of' agreed to consider the post last year.
Without getting our profile out there, our 'cosy little community' will die. It may still, but if inevitable it may be delayed with getting our message out there. IMHO a root and branch reform is needed throughout many leagues with 'big guns' knocking over stiffs most weeks, as they have done for donkeys years! Strangely enough the 'stiffs' stop playing.
We battle the near terminal decline of the pub industry.
I'll propose that AEBBA appoint a publicity officer, who is also a voting member of the AEBBA committee, has the power to co-opt a sub committee if he sees fit and a small annual budget of say £500 , seconder?

Sav I like your wording Sav apart from being happier if the £500 were better defined....... On first impression it looks like an honorarium, payable at the end of the term of office if we thought the incumbent had done a good job. This is okay in respect of the AEBBA Sec who we know is continually involved throughout the year. But the person we are looking for to fill the proposed new role would surely be someone with an abiding love for the game who would probably be willing to do it for nothing. I would however not like to see such a person "out of pocket" in return for their efforts........ I am therefore proposing an amendment, that the person is "authorised to claim justifiable expenses up to a figure not exceeding £500". This to cover printing work, postage, travelling to/from special appointments and such like. tommo

I'll second this Sav, using Tommo's proposed amendment regarding the £500, that I believe would be a better compromise to start with. Of course in the future if the role becomes that vital we could certainly look at an honorarium then. But Tommo's idea seems more sensible to start with.
I'll now start a new forum thread in the AEBBA section so we can use the time we have until the AGM to discuss and refine what we think the role should be. I'd invite everyone to take part in that debate so together we can brainstorm and come up with some ideas, and better define what the role should entail.

I will add the proposal regarding the Publicity Officer, suitably amended. We now have to find someone or persuade Lorin!
I need seconders for two ancilliary proposals;
1) (Separate) that the clause 'one vote per county' be removed from the AEBBA committee voting constitution. It cannot be applied and is ignored as the current committee has two from Berks and two from Sussex. 2) That the AEBBA committee voting constitution be amended to include a Publicity Officer, if appointed.
Gonna be a long AGM!!
Sav
[edit] Will be seconded by Dave Alder

Very strange that I can't find the date anywhere for this years AGM, the calendar says Dec 7th but that is a Saturday and it's usually on a Sunday! milko Hi All I have contacted the club and Nobby has told me the AGM is booked for Sunday 8th December. I did inquire about the date a few weeks ago only to be told it was booked for Sunday 1st. I passed this info to Curt Driver as he wanted to know the date well in advance. I have also gone over the minutes of 2012. It states SUNDAY DECEMBER 8th. THIS WILL BE THE DATE OF THE AGMSorry for any confusion caused Dave

Surely as it is deliberating on an England Mens Team prior to the AGM, with no Ladies recently, it could be an 11am start. Then those that want the custard can do so afterwards?? A much better idea for all that travel. Especially as it looks like a long one !!!

Would someone like to propose the proposal that myself and Sav put forward for the AGM as I will not now be going. I've also sent the Secretary a message to say that I no longer want to be on the England Selection Committee.

I really cannot do an AGM that will go very late. Could we please have a start time??? I have a number of family to sort, which I can, but really need some advance notice of timings.
I would like still to ask that the AGM is before the dinner.
Many thanks Chris

Venue is the Post Office Sports & Social Club, 6 Richfield Avenue, Reading, RG1 8EQ, it's on the left travelling West as you start the bend, next door to the Indespension Trailer Centre.
Dave told me last weekend that the AGM will start at the normal time, so 1400hrs pending an announcement from him.
There will be an Xmas lunch at the Toby Carvery also in Richfield Avenue starting at 1200hrs, I guess Dave will be asking for bookings soon.
Failing that there is an excellent greasy spoon on the corner by the filling station nearly opposite the carvery.
Sav.
