Limes Triples 2013 (now known as the Maurice Oliver Triples) - Saturday 29th June. 11am registration for 11.30 start.
This is a fun competition, held annually at the Limes, South Merstham (great pub) for Redhill League members and a limited number of special guests. (To find the Limes, once you go under the bridge turn right down Albury Road rather than straight on/left to St Nick's School)
The entry is hopefully 48, and for the Draw beforehand every name goes into a hat for either Pool A, Pool B or Pool C dependent on skill level. Each of the 16 Triples thus drawn at random is put into one of four groups, and you play against the other 3 triples in your group, then there's quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand Final. And of course a Plate competition. £3 to enter - includes the Plate.
The C-rated player in the combi has 1st break in first prelim game, the B player first go in the 2nd game and the A player goes first in the 3rd game. At all times 3000 is the maximum break, if you go over you not only lose the break but have to wear a dunce's/jester's/donkey/clown's hat until someone else does similar or has a black peg to take it off you.
Always a great day with lots of see-sawing in fortune (and ee-awing !) and the inevitable great banter. ;)
Colin Robbins has asked me to publicise this event, and as of today there are still 7 slots left, these will be filled on a first-come first-served basis: if not already in the competition you can notify your interest on here - or PM me for Colin's contact details.
Thanks fot advertising the details Clive, it will be nice to see a full complement there on the day.
One correction to the playing format is the C ranked player (often the most effective!) is the player to break in all legs. Each leg lasts for around 35 mins (2 pulls of the bar) so stamina plays a part as well!! Looking forward to the day.
Another tremendous day at the Limes yesterday with the main competition being won by Mal Spier (Sussex), Bryan Stevens (Kent) and Bobbie Davis (Surrey) and the Plate being won by Bill Kerr (Sussex), Mark Fraser (Surrey) and Marion Skinner (Sussex).
Many thanks to Gary Powell, DC and all those involved in organising and running the day, Jason Wadsworth and the staff of the Limes for their wonderful hospitality and Colin Robbins for all his hard work in the kitchen. ;D
World Champion - 2014 Oxon Open Winner - 2014 Berkshire Open Winner - 2017 Guernsey Open Winner - 2019 AEBBA Mixed Pairs Winner - 2014 (with Colleen Park) Highest Break - 23,930 (Brighton League @ Albion Fishersgate 18/05/2016) Bucks Plate Winner - 2009 & 2010 (The ONLY player to ever "successfully" defend a Plate Competition!)
I would echo all of the Warriors comments & that doesn't happen very often. ;D
This is a great event as a build up to the County Singles comps.
What a relaxed atmosphere Big thanks to Gary Powell & Jason for running the event, Jason & Trish & the Limes for Hosting it & the great food from Colin all day.
My personal thanks go to my team for getting through to the main Semi Finals & it especially good to see Fiona Doyle out and about & taking part, & thanks to my team mate Colin's ;) who stepped in when he was detained in the kitchen.
